lol, my neighbor and Sunday School teacher when growing up was a founding member of the team. He was honestly one of the nicest, most relaxed guys you'd ever meet, and I never knew about that chapter of his life until after I'd joined the military. As far as we knew, he'd always just been an FBI agent. Unfortunately, after retiring from the FBI he became the chief of police at a local city, but they were so inept that the officers chafed at him holding them to high standards and they complained until he was fired. I don't think it's any surprise, then, that that same department's SWAT team has a reputation amongst our states law enforcement community for being incredibly lazy and inept. I imagine he could have really turned them into a great outfit if they'd had the desire and will to improve themselves.
I've been a cop for 2 years while I finished school and I plan on going to Quantico. HRT is my ultimate goal, but it'll take a while

Solid Team here. I seen them when they flew up to DC and assisted DC SWAT (ERT) with the active shooter in the Navy yard in 2013. Landed on the 11st bridge and walked in as a locked tight unit about their business.

@@antman656 Thats incorrect 85-90% of HRT members don't have military SOF backgrounds at all. My best friend an old partner of mine from DSS is there now and gave me a run down. Most of the guys on the team are long time Agents that moved up from the SWAT teams that came into the agency after college and have only worked in the FBI, the other large majority are 1811 Fed lateral transfers like my buddy(the position was called 2501 but its equivalent to 1811)for example. The FBI does offer the TRP program that's a fast track 2 year program from new recruit to working in CIRG units. Most SOF guys dont wanna get stuck working white collar crime for 2 years after having to go to college to get their degrees just to do a job similar to the one they already had.
FBI has their own because by law US military are not allowed to conduct domestic law enforcement activities. So yes, intentional if that’s what you meant.
That’s bc military isn’t aloud to do law enforcement on American soil. So they get around that by making tier 1 FBI. They’ve been formed to respond domestically to a terror attack

I worked with Marshals Spec ops guys overseas. Very professional Group, alot of them were Prior Service, usually Army or Marine Corps.

Only 300 have made the cut since formation in 1983? That boils down to 8 candidates per year over a 37 year period. I would assume HRT has more than one team/ platoon/flight. if they modeled it off of DEVGRU, SAS Or GSG9. They have to have 3 teams at minimum One always on alert, one in training and a backup. I would assume that going on deployments overseas with Tier 1 units also allows them the opportunity to recruit from the best down the road. Kick in a door in Libya take down the bad guy hand in your resume on the way out. I had a roommate in flight school that was Marines and during TBS at Quantico his class decided to run pass the FBI recruits in gas mask during morning PT. These weren’t HRT recruits just FBI recruits But a funny story. Again another amazing video of a group that puts it on the line to keep us safe in our now boring civ jobs.
HRT has between 50-100 members at any one time. I think after Waco they raised it and now they normally number in the 90s (before they had a max of 50). I mean, the training didn't change per-se, they just opened it up to more people (not lowering standards, but allow more people to try out if you know what I'm saying).

HRT training is modeled after Delta Force's training, they changed a few things, they removed stuff that isn't relevant to the FBI and a few other stuff

@@Lifechanging99999 The reason civilians can't get quad nods is L3 won't sell them to civilians , there is no law about it. And even if they did basically no one could afford them anyways. In reference to the machine guns I understand that, but condsidering they basically never use full auto you could replace them with semi auto variants and nothing would change, but you can get all that gear besides the nods and rifle perfectly legally, and before you say it, they they have to get suppressor and SBR tax stamps.
HUNTER0224 if I recall correctly they get stamps but don’t pay the tax... and l3 isn’t making the rules but I’m sure they would lose contracts if they did not follow the rules. The Government ultimately tells them what to do.

At the end of the day, L3 is a company, and a company's purpose is to make money, do you think they would make more money off of selling quad nods to civilians or the government? With how much they cost to make and how much they are worth it is not profitable to sell them to civilians, even if they government was still buying them.

I appreciate the sources too because I have been researching a lot of tactical teams lately and with the federal guys like HRT for some reason I have a hard time finding info on them. Could you possibly do a video on US Marshals SOG? I'm aware of the US Marshals deputies and how they operate but I cannot find anything concrete on SOG.
Wow it looked like some of those guys had the old 10mm MP-5’s. They started using those back when the field agents were going to use the S&W 1006, 10mm as their duty sidearm, but that didn’t last very long. Which in turn led to the development of the .40 S&W round in late 1989. The .40 S&W is just a shortened version of the 10mm, which has turned out to be a popular choice for many domestic Law Enforcement Agencies. Good Day Everyone!

Yeah, the MP5/10s are still around at the various field offices, but in increasingly small numbers with each passing year. I doubt HRT makes much if any use of them anymore, but the regional SWAT teams do to a degree. A lot of them have been heavily-modified over the years.
My understanding of it is that they use them until they break, at which point the armorer sends them back to Quantico and receives an M4 variant in return. In other words, they're phasing out and have been for some time.
And as an aside: the .40 S&W has fallen from grace with domestic law enforcement agencies, many of which are dumping their .40 sidearms in favor of 9x19mm.

Theyre pretty much like "Domestic" DEVGRU or CAG. The equipment is definitely Tier 1 grade.

Apparently some CAG members were present at Waco, and a senior Department of Defense official said in the NYTimes that SOC units have operated and can operate on US soil under the special authority of the President of the Secretary of Defense.
PillsburyDoughboy, they can do everything CAG and DEVGRU can at this point, including operating in hostile and non-permissive environments overseas.
It's not just their gear that is Tier One.

I won’t lie, I wouldn’t do any of this type of stuff again, 6yrs as a TACP was more than enough for me. Now I just like to watch, and doze off in my recliner. But I’ve heard in the past the HRT has had a history of training deficits, not sure if that’s been churched up, I remember a green beret years ago being recommended for disciplinary action for publicly sharing his thoughts on those issues the FBI was apparently having at the time, he wasn’t very nice about his assessment, considering they do train with SOF.

Do the USCG MSRT have the same training as the HRT if not they need 2
FBI HRT is modeled after Delta, aka tier 1, whereas MSRT is a tier 2 unit more in line with Army Rangers and MARSOC, conducting maritime raids. Different branches focus on different missions. It wouldn't make sense to train MSRT in open field ambushes just like it wouldn't make sense to train HRT operators as JTAC. The training should be in accordance to their mission. They all specialize in their areas and become the best.

That was in large part because of the ATF. If you wanna call out failures of certain units, we can bring up Delta and the 75th Ranger Regiment for Somalia, or the Navy SEALs during Red Wings. These guys are humans, they're not perfect. These guys are still more elite than you or I will ever be.

SFOD-D/Delta/CAG during their early years trained with the FBI's HRT. SF0D-D members confirmed FBI HRT's skills and the FBI would compete with the Military in shooting competitions. This was all prior to all the budget cuts. Today, the Public knows they are manned by ex-military, including Tier1 members.

A national Police Force conducting missions on foreign territory??? Strange. In the UK, our armed police deal with this sort of stuff, with back up from the SAS who operate completely different from the police. I guess real experiences in hostage rescue will be invaluable however could a tier 1 army of navy special forces group not conduct these missions on home soil?
It's because they're federal agents so when they go on HVT kill/capture missions with tier 1 SOF units the FBI HRT agents can detain the terrorist suspects and act as witnesses during their trial back in the US. Makes the process to arrest and sentence terrorist back in the US a lot smoother.

Much respect to the British Police, but the culture of guns in this country is pretty much non existent, and although they have recently had to gun down a few terrorists on home soil, most armed police, SFOs and CTSFOs will not have the pressure of real combat.. hence why the SAS mobilise to terrorists incidents in the UK, their experience and warzone aggression in incidents is invaluable to assist our police and keep people safe. I guess this FBI unit are ad good as and army/navy special forces unit
@@benmallinson1097 Yeah, quite a few of the FBI HRT personnel are former tier 1 SOF guys, so they already have good combat experience and can assist other SOF units in the field.
They’re Federal Agents, not police. They have a totally different job and skill set. Federal Agents regularly conduct operations outside the United States for a lot of different reasons.
These guys dressed up in Army SOF, but FBI? Do they operate overseas as well?
Yes, one of their most notable missions was the raid in Libya. They were sent to arrest the people responsible for the Benghazi attacks.
So, they're allowed to operate with tier one units overseas but they're able to conduct operations here on American Soil? Seems like a way to bypass the Posse Comitatus law....

Bruce Lee you can be in the military and still apply and likely qualify depending on how high up there you are. It includes less time to become a agent as no matter what you have be a agent to get into its programs but they lessen that timeframe for you if you have the tactical experience to back it as well as the commitment.

Bruce Lee it’s similar, once you’ve done the selective service registration you’re set for the rest if not all applicant work for any branch of the military and usually going into applying for the FBI or particularly HRT, it’s practically the same as going for a contract to do any SOF service aside from if you’re not a FBI agent you’ll have go through that process yet they do minimize it as much as possible due to your experience factor. If you’re already an agent and somehow had the essential experience beforehand then all the better and you’ve likely already have what it takes to make it into and more or less through the program despite its completion rate. And if you don’t have the experience then think of it like this, you don’t have the physical or jarring experience as say a former SEAL or MARSOC Raider who decides to go into Law and eventually the FBI and still be of age to be eligible for the HRT process. In essence you basically are going through what is the equivalent of Delta teams entry level of selection process if you’re just a run of the mill agent with no background and you have no experience getting into it which doesn’t make it impossible but it does lessen your chances to a strong point. I’d say it’s a hand pick selection process that’s no slouch sure but it’s drop rate compared to the others is obviously due to normal agents thinking they can do it and drop out, id argue that people who are making it are
A) Your experienced FBI agent who figured they can do this and still end up weeded out but a margin does make it through or B) SOF guys who after service went to school and got the other spectrums experience and wanted this more than the other 3 groups and are likely the margin that mostly make it through. Or C) SOF guys who simply apply and get in but still get weeded out with only again a small margin making it through. All of these groups still get weeded out as you can easily look up the population of the team and how many got in but this entire process to still get in is hardly as intensive as you may think. Guys of this stature don’t care about the time or requirements, it’s about getting through the process itself and actually serving at this level and for them specific albeit any of these 3 groups it’s not difficult at all to get in keep in mind this is practically voluntary despite its selectivity and these 3 groups specifically usually get into the process but as you can see it’s just like Deltas completion rate it’s another tier up and at the level you’re gonna have drop outs but definitely not cause of a shortage of attempts due it being difficult to be eligible it’s simply hard for a typical civilian to get into but they don’t want that sort of applicant obviously.

A lot of good techniques but don’t rush to your death fight from the treshold see what you have in the first room, once the breach is executed it make no sense into running in guns blazing..just my 2 cents if I hear people coming to my house creeping in it’s a lot scarier and a great mental mind fuck (opinion)..a lot free floating also every clip 1 man is out running the team not enough guns in the room for the first second..but there are many ways to get the job done
Jeen Gyim they’re not serving a search warrant, it’s hostage rescue. It’s a dynamic entry not a slow clear. The first man ahead of the team is done for a reason
D S yeah I see that, first man in a whole person ahead doesn’t do the team justice in the event he gets hit..also moving in fast doesn’t give you hope that the second man can clear his corner quickly enough before the 1 man gets hit.fast sure accurate depends on how much trigger time the team has all together. In 2012 DEVGRU's Color Coded Squadron codenamed Silver Squadron threw a frag into a room with the hostage in it, killing said hostage and failed to report it for over six months. I'd want CAG.

One thing in society that annoys me with shooters, is when they say the FBI shoots this? I have respect for the FBI, but I'm not going to buy what they shoot. They don't shoot that much. I would buy a pistol the HRT shoots. If it's good enough for them, it's worth buying.

No they are not in crazy shape, they work special agent jobs until they are needed. Not sure where you got those bullshit numbers from, I was literally over his house last weekend and the HRT class had about 21 guys in my city infront of a sand colored LAV with dudes on the roof in the one pic. Pretty sure he’s HRT because he is, pretty sure I’ve known him for over 10 years, and pretty sure we lift weights and train together almost every week and he was NOT SOF. I don’t think regular SWAT have the capacity to respond to a Munich-type situation, what happens when you are held hostage at the Olympics, and there aren’t enough men, or competent people to deal with this situation? Should they just give up? Isn’t it good that we have trained people to respond to a situation that saves lives? Who else would do this? FBI does more combat work than most domestic federal departments.

The HRT is designed to do what the military cannot: Operate domestically, and protect US citizens from domestic terrorism and hostage situations the police departments aren’t equipped or trained to deal with. The military is not allowed to operate domestically, so you need an equivalent that has the training and capacity to do the same job.
The moment (God forbid) you find yourself being held hostage by a terrorist that SWAT can’t handle, you’ll remember the time you called for the HRT to be shut down, and now nobody will come save you.
The military can’t operate in US soil. These guys can.
If I’m in the Marines, for example, I can’t do a thing if some domestic organization decides to blow up a landmark. SWAT may not be equipped to deal with it in certain situations. So then.... _what do you do now_ ? Just let it happen? Let terrorist organizations run wild, wreaking havoc across our country?
Or do you send these guys in to do the dirty work and save lives, so you have the liberty to sleep peacefully and criticize their hard work and insult them?
These “wannabe SF guys” (that was an absolute lack of respect and you should be ashamed, but I digress) deserve more respect from the (sometimes _ungrateful_ ) people they risk their lives and _die_ to protect, and I urge anyone reading this to inform and educate yourself before making such a comment.
They train with Delta and DEVGRU (Seals), they’re not “wannabe SOF”, they’re held to a much higher standard and are prepared to save your life, and don’t care how lowly you think of them or how you insult them, whether that’s your intention or not.
Are they perfect? _No_ . They make mistakes, just like everyone else. Are they necessary? Absolutely. I think the people they’ve saved, like that young girl they rescued from the Pedo that killed her family and took her to the woods miles away from home, or the many others we never hear about, that are living their lives because of them, would agree with me, and call you out.
Too many people act like they know what they’re talking about, and become tactical geniuses and combat analysts, thinking they know all about these units they’ll never be a part of, and say things that make no sense whatsoever. It turns people (particularly those who tend not to read and educate themselves) against those that protect them, and it’s dangerous.

Most members post 9/11 are vets and they have one of the hardest selections in all of LEO and Military, lot more than just "playing military". The whole reason they exist is because the military isn't allowed to do operations on U.S soil.

FBI are cops and have NO BUSINESS on SOF missions. The goal is capture/interrogate for criminal action. Not interrogate for actionable DA intelligence to stop planned attacks or ID other HVT for C/K mission. Need to keep their ass in CONUS. Many are reserve/former SOF. unit initially trained& certified by US T1 unit. They ARE GOOD but they are cops. Remember a very high ranking fed,observing final training OTC op before certification asking a a general officer and a Col, why none of the shooters carried handcuffs.........
They're not cops nor are they a swat team. The whole reason they exist is because Posse Comitatus Act bars the military from operating on U.S soil. They're job is to rarely arrest people. The unit was literally made as a mirror image to Delta, having the same selection and training. They are a paramilitary counter-terrorism unit for when SHTF in the states. They deploy internationally sometimes to arrest, but mainly just to get trigger time with Delta and the 75th most of the time because no better training than the real thing. Unless you would rather a meal team 6 swat team that has the budget of a meth house and questionable training standards respond to a high risk terrorist event next time.
American hostage rescue rate is poor beyond belief,best leave it to the experts.British SAS and MOSSAD
HOstage rescues are dangerous. Extremely dangerous. The frequency of attempts increases chances of failure. American SOF are the ones that attempt the most hostage rescue abroad, hence their poor rate of success. Hostage rescue is not romantic and it is not a pissing contest.
And BTW, there is a chance your local police department SWAT team has a way better hostage rescue rate than Delta, DEVGRU, SAS, SBS, Sayeret (Israeli special operation forces) units, etc. You know why? Raretty of hostage situation in your neighborhood and SWAT team members' perfect knowledge of the neighborhood and their absolute certainty on the whereabout of those hostages. Most often than none many of these special forces units don't know the area they are been sent to and the certainty of the hostages being on site is not a given. Intelligence can be faulty or delayed. Thus, as previously mentioned, these factors make failure rate increase as operations become frequent.
And, I forgot. The UKSF (SAS, SBS) on many of their successful rescues had US JSOC members with them. If JSOC members were that terrible, I don't think UKSK would need their participation. Operation Barras, one of SAS/SBS most successful hostage rescues , had active participation from US Delta forces.
