That pusher plate is way too small for that huge wedge, that's why the rounds continually splay outwards...

@@InTheWoodyard I mentioned this to Andrew at Eastonmade. He said his main concern for not putting a bigger push plate is safety. He said it can be done as long as the user understands the concerns. I have an Ultra on order that won't be ready until August 2022. I'm going to be asking for a bigger push plate.

@@oakrunacres2564 You are right about the small push plate. I also brought it up with Andrew. But his idea of the small push plate is safer dosen't make any sense to me. If you are splitting wood with a splitter you should know enough about not putting your hands on the ends of the block of wood while splitting. A taller push plate would make it work so much better.

bet your back was pretty sore after hurking up those big maple rounds, but if you had an excavator with a hydraulic splitter on it you wouldn’t have touched it until it was twenty-five pounds or there about, i’m grabbing 300-400 pound oak rounds and munching them up into manageable splits with a twist of a wrist and the roll of the thumb, plus the tree service companies pay me to take it off their hands, but it doesn’t seed a food plot like a tractor. i’ve had a tractor for years and there good, but you know what my tractor does for firewood...it watches!

That wood has box wedge written all over it. Careful with them big pieces on the 4 way. That splitters small push plate to lineal wedge ratio is too great. Too bad someone couldn’t fab up a mechanical foot pedal to lift that wedge up and down quickly. Having that fixed 4way is a bummer. I’m thinking something like a dirt bike lift stand. Now to figure out how to lock it in place???...maybe remote mount a motorcycle brake handle with cable and spring pin assembly??...or a dual function pedal like what’s on a golf cart brake pedal?...Humm...
