    This is how all British people feel when lists of "British food" pop up and you've heard of like five of them and the rest are some scuffed soup from some village that somebody's grandma made once.

    Funnily enough the B52 shot is actually named after the band, not the bomber. And by the way the band was named after a nickname for a hairstyle which resembled the nose cone of the bomber.

      Translates to "Unemployed pudding", it's a cake made with the cheapest ingredients because Quebecers in the 50s were poor for the most part

    • @acadianalien
      @acadianalien ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It is very popular with French Canadians. It's ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes, very low budget. It was allegedly given to the chinese workers when they built the railroad.

    • @samtremblaybelzile
      @samtremblaybelzile ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's different from shepherd's pie in the sense that the ingredients are more set. It's always ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes. If you put anything other than maybe onions in your ground beef, it's no longer pâté chinois.

    • @HeyRoosty
      @HeyRoosty ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samtremblaybelzile That's just wildly incorrect. Pate Chinois isn't only shackled to those 3 ingredients. I know you're QC from your name alone, I'm from QC too and my french part of my family makes it in several different ways. Always still Pate Chinois.

    • @samtremblaybelzile
      @samtremblaybelzile ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@HeyRoosty I disagree. Pâté Chinois is a younger dish than both Hachis parmentier and Shepherd's pie. It's probably fair to call it a variant of those two dishes, defined by its simplicity. There's a reason the expression "Steak, blé d'inde, patates" has entered the vernacular meaning "stick to the basics". That's the definition of pâté chinois, stick to the basics.
