Loved this movie. Haven't seen it years but it stuck with me, like all good horror should. Just a shame Jeff Fahey never quite got the recognition he deserved.

*Amazing cast, direction, cinematography, sound and editing, but what makes it truly outstanding is its amazing PACE. There is not a single slow or unnecessary scene over it's very brisk 129 minutes. Also Brad Dourif just devours ever scene he is in*
One of my first DVD purchases decades ago and I still own it and watch it

My older brother showed me this movie on vhs around 1992 when I was 10 years old. He was like "Hey check out this cool movie!" I sit down on the carpet crossed my legs, chin resting in my palms, 1 hour and 30 minutes later I'm traumatized! Haven't seen it since but I do remember the accident scene, the bar scene and the handcuff scenes. Maybe I'll try to watch it for the second time before I turn 40.

He also wrote The Hitcher 1986 one of the best movies ever made and Near Dark 1987 and the car chase scene is fucking amazing and he ripped Chucky's arm of, made him fall from a window and turned him into a doll, impressive.

This movie freaked me out when I was a kid! A psychiatrist loses an arm in a car accident, but gets a new one, from a recently executed serial killer. They spoofed in an episode of The Simpsons Halloween Special, "Hell Toupee" where Homer gets a hair transplant from criminal Snake Jailbird, whom possesses Homer to go on a vengeful killing spree.

    • @colincampbell3199

Great how they homage classic movies like this.

  • @parisgreen4600

Thanks for the overview of how Eric Red re-shaped the source material. I read the novel (in English) and to me it was painfully slow and anticlimactic. If I remember right, the killer actually dies offscreen, in his bed, and we only hear about if afterward. Maybe the novel was hurt by the passage of time, or the translation, but Red's version is so much better.
The movie is amazing! You mentioned the two central action scenes - the wreck in the beginning, and the handcuff car chase toward the end - and they still look shockingly real (Eric Red has posted long clips on his TH-cam channel). And this was all before CGI!
He knew what movie he wanted to make, and he made it. For example, the image on the DVD (back in the day) was the killer walking off carrying two severed legs and silhouetted by fire. Perfect!

No cap, I saw this movie at a church member's house one Sunday afternoon. A bunch of other church kids and I were over their house while all our parents were gone doing something (I don't remember), and they had this on for us to watch. I remember being grossed and creeped out even though I'd already seen a ton of violent, gory horror movies by that point at my grandma's house.

The scariest part of this movie is the beginning, watching that wobbly tire on the car knowing that in heavy traffic there's no where to go if that tires comes off and you'd be stuff in a horrible traffic accident. I think about that scene every time I drive in heavy traffic.

A very underrated movie, I agree that car chase is intense and Jeff Fahey is acting his ass off here. I seem to remember another controversy was the movies subject matter of body part transplants was giving the medical field a bad name. The funniest line in the film comes when Fahey's character meets up with Brad Dourif's
Bill: "I've got the other arm"
Remo: " well you want to arm wrestle?"

It's like an episode of Tales From The Crypt made into a feature film. A somewhat similar theme (organ donations) but more sci-fi than horror is the short story called (IIRC) "The Assemblage of Kristin". The recipients gather to honor Kristin, and find that when they are together, something of her spirit still lives in the respective organs (for example, her donated hand retains it's affinity for pottery, her eye still longs to stare at a film star). Mostly positive, until one of the recipients refuses to participate...

I remember there was a character named "Doug" or "Dog". There were some cyber monsters I think in the cave or tunnel and at the end they have to talk to an "Electric" man (There was a lot of electricity around this man or android and at the end the protagonist with a woman escape out of the Tunnel or cave and they show a scene they got out of like in a hill.
