  • In this how to video I talk about how to fix a water damaged camera in 4 steps I personally took myself after a camera accident in the Peak district!
This is not my usual style of video as I'm a travel vlogger so I just hope that this helps as many people as possible!
For those who prefer reading here are the steps:
    1) Take it out of the wet immediately, take out your memory card/battery and dry everything with an item of clothing or a towel if you're at home.
    2) Get down to the supermarket immediately and buy rice, a plastic container big enough to hold your camera and some kitchen towel. Put the camera in some kitchen towel, place it in the plastic container, pour rice over it and shut the lid.
    3) If you are able to find a damp trap in the supermarket then put that in with the camera facing the lens...if not then doing this action becomes step 3! This is VERY important...it will draw water out much faster than rice! Keep everything enclosed in an airing cupboard for at least 7 days before the next step. Check if your camera is at least able to switch on...if it is but the lens is black and foggy go to step 4....if not keep it in the cupboard for another week.
    4) As per the TH-camr 'RNK All Day' (see link below) you'll need to find at least 50 penny coins, a plastic ziplock bag, and 3 hand towels and an elastic band. Wrap the coins up into one of the hand towels and make a pouch using a strong elastic band (make it tight as it will potentially be placed into a dryer). Place the pouch plus the other 2 hand towels into the dryer for between 15-30 mins...until they are hot. If you haven't got a dryer then heat until hot with a hairdryer. Next take the heated coin pouch plus 2 hand towels into the the ziplock bag with the camera (better if you are able to open the lens fully should the zoom be working...but if not simply place into the bag). Close the bag and place into a warm/dry place for 10 hours.
IT WORKED FOR ME SO FINGERS CROSSED THIS WORKS!
    BEST OF LUCK!

great idea with the pennies. previously my camera phone fell into a pool, and the damp trap worked to pull out the little water bubbles in all the three lenses it has. today my camera also fell into the same pool, am planning to use the pennies trick this time.

Tumble dry camera lens? Would that not crack the lens? I wish there was a video to visually show

Sorry to hear that, nightmare. Follow my steps through to the end…make sure you leave the camera in rice for 5-7 days atleast…dry that baby out then move onto the next steps
