  • BIG NOTE:
Both the Wii Virtual Console AND the PS2 Sega 2500 releases supports turbo as a feature, and because rapid fire is doable on a standard controller, it is therefore legit category.
But don't be put off if you want to do a run with proper button mashing because that is a legit category as well, not only it is slower on the rate of fire but also the route for upgrades/powerups usage is going to be different as well.
    Tricks used in this run:
    Quick boss spawn:
A small trick that saves nearly 8 seconds per stage. You need to:
    1) Destroy the final base
    2) Collect the coins,
Sadly it isn't as simple as that for the later stages because there’s more enemies, projectiles and coins to deal with and if you pick up too many coins, it will spawn a SHOP balloon which actually delays the boss spawn even more! I do this trick in the 6 out of the 7 possible stages. The only stage where I don’t do the trick is stage 4 because of a strat I use in that level.
    Quick shop exit:
Very situational depending on money count after stage 4 shopping. I purposely use up all of my money on Fire Bombs and if the money is low enough to not buy anything else, it will take me out of the shop much sooner.
    Unlimited Power up weapon time:
Feels more like an Easter egg rather than a cheat code. Heck this trick even got mentioned in the hint sections of the US instruction manual.
You need to purchase all 4 engine upgrades and then buy any SHOT power up. After selecting a powerup, the time limit lasts forever until you lose a life.
    Notes:
The round 5 boss where I was dodging enemy fire isn't costing me any time. An average LP pace for that fight would never have to deal with the giant Poppoos's snowballs from the left side of the screen.
    Possible improvements:
Quick boss spawn for round 4:
What is hard about it? Trying to pick up coins before destroying the 6th base and not spawning the SHOP balloon. At least two Fire Bombs will be needed for this stage IF it works.
Use Fire Bomb in round 7:
What is hard about it? The bases are on the upper half of the stage making it nearly possible, the tough part is figuring out the coins as it may end up being similar to Round 4 where it ends up delaying the boss spawn. That’s right, quicker base kills doesn’t always mean a quicker spawn if you don’t know the most optimal coin pickups right afterwards.
    Use Rocket engine:
What is hard about it? You move so fast that it is hard to dodge incoming enemies/projectiles on reaction also moving so far ahead to the left/right to find out you collide towards an enemy base. Literally blink and you are very likely going to screw up the run.
    One cycle IDA-2
What is hard about it? Turbo 7 way and heavy bomb isn’t enough to kill it.
Better strategies against both Alien 5 and 6
What is hard about it? Few seconds away from a fantastic run and you mess it up on the last three seconds. Maybe if I can kill number 5 on the middle of the map then go to the right and quick kill number 6 by using Heavy Bombs it might be possible.
Speed run recorded on 24th February 2015

awesome WR and man it's funny how the credits ending in Master System games are trying to be deep ( although yes back in 1985 it was pretty cool to see that) Enduro Racer had something like that too, like good you finished the races but the essential was you having fun or something.

You are crazy powerful with that turbo. I can't believe the one thing making the enemies in this game difficult in the original version is the difficulty of mashing buttons. I'm glad games don't pull that crap anymore.

I'm going to make this clear.
Despite using Turbo, the run still counts as legit speed run because you can use rapid fire while using a standard controller but it will be listed as a different category
A non-turbo run (mashing the button) is not only going to be slower but the route/upgrade usage is going to be different altogether.
Now you might be thinking why this is fine but not a game like The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker when it comes to Zombie Hovering?
To get Turbo for Wind Waker, you would need to get a third party controller with turbo functions, a feature not possible on a standard controller and is therefore considered unfair.
And by the way, here is a speed run that did get published to SDA back in 2009 with rapid fire turbo as a feature :
Mega Man 3 (Anniversary Collection) in 32:29

My times with non-turbo trigger on an emulator are far over your WR time... Still getting better for a close 5 minute run :)

There's some serious audio desync/video lagging going on near the end.

Are you on mobile? It does that sometimes.
The audio sync sounds fine to me, especially the Heavy Bomb usage against the final boss

Hard to say. The route planning and the lack of a easter egg for infinite 7 way puts me off :P
At least there is a TAS run for FZ 2: th-cam.com/video/lsYYD94ObiI/w-d-xo.html

      *****
The fast part yes, but I'm more concerned about the Twitch stream monsters for not fully understanding the turbo part....
A turbo controller and Turbo "ON/OFF" via menu/separate button are two different things.

***** I get that concern. I think that if you out into a clip of you turning on turbo, that would explain it. I'm not one of those higher ups at sda, but it seems like that would work. It's sort of like the TAS block. The stream showed the setup of TASbot, so it wasn't a problem.

I can’t get a rate of fire that fast. Best I’m at is 5:47

You put a cheat in buying all the engine parts makes the extra weapons NEVER run out

Greenalink I used to play this games back in the day it was and still is my favourite game ever . And the sega master system will always be my favourite system ever if you watch all demo levels you get credits scrolling up the screen keep press up down on the controller for about 15 seconds then when you go to the shop lives will be cheaper
