Hi both nice to see you on your channel again , I think the big problem is a garden pond can never be truly natural . And has to be managed , which can mean a lot of work hence you guys having to sometimes coming to the rescue. Even in the wild mass die offs can occur , which I suppose is natures way of resetting the balance . Best wishes and kind regards as always. 😄👍👍👍

How many gallons per koi do you recommend?
not a fan of that but its more filtering properly and keeping water healthy, big filters if poss low stocks of fish and not overfeeding you cant go wrong

We've had very hot weather in the UK lately and I unfortunately lost eight of my ghost koi over a period of three days, I tried everything to oxygenate the water but to no avail ☹

Sorry to hear that. I live in East Sussex and there has been outbreaks of Costia parasites. Three weeks ago, coinciding with the warmer weather I had such an outbreak which rapidly multiplied in the hot weather leading to the death of one large Koi. I was lucky and recognised this by swabbing the skin under a microscope and treating with anti-parasitic liquid. Initially I also thought it was low oxygen, but found out it was in fact a parasite. Just a point to ensure this is ruled out. Hope all goes well
If you have had problems with parasites it’s more to do with your fishes immune systems and style of pond, koi tend to be more susceptible because most people love keeping them in unnatural environments like a fibre glass cage. There are no such things as costia outbreaks it is more likely just in your pond. Btw low oxygen and parasites are two different things
@thep0ndman thank you for your advice. The specialist who services my pond had received multiple calls about costia so I naturally assumed an outbreak. Thank you for clarification. I had not introduced any new fish so wondered where it came from? Thought birds?
