What is your FAVORITE scale to collect?!
1:87 and 1:64
1:43
64 scale
1/18
@@eulogiohowell7976 MINI sizes!
I like 1/24 scale, seems to be the best balance of size detail and price, and being in the UK I like Corgis 1/36 scale too. Seems like both scales are not too common though....
unfortunately a lot of the collector grade high detailed stuff doesn't come in a 24 scale often.
@@modelcarshouston Have you ever heard of Whitebox, IXO, Franklin Mint, Salvat, Altaya, Danbury Mint, Hachette or WCP?
I love 1/18 scale but price , availability and veriety of 1/24 is unmatched . I have stoped collecting models in both scales due to not having a place to display my models. Now 1/64 is a different story I have a nice collection of basic castings in hotwheels majorette, matchbox I haven't yet got more collector grade makes but hopefully I will in the future.
Beautiful, Gorgeous JDM set there. In my personal experience, 1/43 has been the best choice for super-detailed models. 1/24 is reserved for my absolute Favorite cars ever made and 1/18 is set for my absolute, Must-have legends ever built. I refuse to mention the car so that the price/demand doesn't go up. I can't afford a car collection. But a model car collection gives you the exact feeling!
Thanks!!!
This is an awesome comparison. I will remain a 1/43 scale fan, as I find it the best balance between size and details amount, but this comparison is very helpful for every begginer collector 😁👍
Strictly 1/64 I love how portable it is and fits with the homies figute set. I've owned other sizes but over time I realized either they arent friendly with space or are a pain to maintain and clean.
My personal favourite is 1/43 scale. Details and space is idea and can be held in palm of hand. 1/64 is next becos of space saving.
1/43 is definitely a nice size scale that utilizes both great detail and space savings.
I love 1:18, 1:24. My favorite is actually 1:64, it's more convenient for it's small size and price. Like you said depends on the brand.
I'm trying to have a diverse of brands, not just one brand, but also the cars/ trucks that I want over what's available.
can't beat 64 and trying to get as MANY as I can haha
1/64 is the best! It is cheaper, smaller and great for making dioramas. But its great to have a few 1/18 models too
The diorama aspect is really FUN!
Everything in my collection is 1:18, and has just the perfect amount of detail that works for me in such the limited space I’m working with.
Dude completely forgot about 1/24 scale. So much for being a scale model channel.
That scale is not part of the collector grade model cars. So much for being a scale model collector.
@@modelcarshouston Did I say I'm a scale model collector? No. And you didn't specified in your title that the size comparison was only for "collector" grade model cars.
Damnnn this shit getting heated
@@DewNotDisturbwell you know what they say. Don’t stay nun won’t be nun” lol
I used to have a large collection of 1:43 scale cars but I sold basically all of them a few years ago and switched to 1:18..
I got attracted to 1:18 because of the availability of aftermarket parts and wheels from 3D printers and companies like TK-Diecast.....
I also use to have hundreds of boxed hotwheels but again sold basically all of them and I now have a small collection but much better quality collection of Inno64 cars..
So in short 1:18 and 1:64
Oh this is really good information!
Literally getting into scaling up my model car collecting to something larger as of today. Thinking of reserving a 1/18 scale for any really exciting car that I have been able to drive on streets or track. Trophy case of sorts. Simply on here to soak up the content. I want to go full on hobby grade with some while continuing to buy about 20 hotwheels a year of whichever real cars they produce. Though if I had a little more space and money, I would go with a 1/12 collection. The detail is magical.
There we go!!!
Since I've started off with Hot Wheels and have expanded with Greenlight, Mini GT, Matchbox, Inno64, and more, I've stuck with 1/64.
I like 1:24, 1:43, 1:32, and 1:36 Diecast models because they are big enough to be detailed but not so expensive as the bigger ones. I collect mostly Acura‘s and Cadillacs so I am limited to 1:43 and sometimes 1:32 scale cars anyway. to
My 2 year old is into tractors so here I am. Trying to figure out which size is best so he can carry it everywhere he goes :)
😍 that RX-7!!! Wow
💯
I fondly remember the 1/12th scale Formula 1 cars Tamiya offered years ago. Although the decals on the Brabbam not so much. Tamiya was able to share a certain number of parts across different kits due to so many cars in the 60s and 70s using the Cosworth DFX 3 liter V-8
plastic model builder kits?
I love the 1:36-38 scales but its kinda hard to find other brands than Kinsmart, Welly and Jada.
Very helpful wish someone had a video like this when I started collecting years ago and 1:64
For sure! I'm going to go back to the basics and make sure I cover as much as I can before I keep doing new product videos.
Do product videos don't do nothing if I don't have the foundational videos first!
We always played with size 1/64 cars when we were young with the other children, and we always exchanged cars between us or lost some of them. As for the size 1/18, it is for collection. No one is allowed to even touch it😂😂😂
Great video, new to collecting …I got hooked when I got the A-Team van and i didn’t stop when I saw K.I.T.T the next week😂😂😂😂
ive been a Car Collector for a year now but strictly collecting only 1/64 scale due to budget and financial limits. however now that im (thankfully) quite well off financially, i would like to start collecting 1/18 scales. which is the best brand? i was thinking of AutoArt.
Autoart
Ignition Model
Make Up Co., Ltd.
BBR Models
Motorhelix
Just depends on some factors, make and model, etc.
@modelcarshouston noted. thank you! Also, I just discovered more videos of your channel in my research for 1/18 scale collecting, enjoying them so far. subscribed.
I'm a 1/24 collector. I don't need/want to upgrade to high end models (yet).
After I saw this video its now chirstmas and I got the honda nsx he had in the background. or i thought. I got the new Kyosho one and its sickkk
Why are people commenting they prefer the smaller scales because of the details? The bigger the model the more details you can add
Space and quantity
I love 1/18 scale
It's a good size!
I love the 1:43 scale. Not big and enough details! Hope it gets never in a hype so I can collect more!
43 has great detail actually....
What size car will fit 6 to 6 and a half size action figures?
None really because these do not open.
Saw cool Miata 1:64 online.
Had no reference, so i did the sensible thing: check TH-cam.
Did not disappoint. Thank you for the perfect explanation, and clear highdef video!! 😎👍
Glad it helped man!
i love how all the examples are JDM legends
But in all seriousness, 1:64 is the best i mean you can get everything
JDM for life! Yes, very true. Just depends on what the person wants. More detail, space constraints, etc.
i bought a 1/12 scale Lamborghini pleased now i know what i will be getting.. Oh cost me a staggering £30 Lambo.. sterling (currency) but it looks AMAZING.. as i only do El Cheapo
My favorite is 12 scale!!!
Thank you for your video brilliant i bought a 1:64 model twin cam 16v and im delighted to know the size ive also a subaru and e11 on way thanks for your videos😊
The pleasure is all mine. Thank you for watching!
124 scale and 25th scale is a perfect balance in size and ease of ability to scratch build and even do modeling because it's not too too small where you can detail it it's not too big where it takes up too much room and takes up too much time to build as well and not as much room the store and display so 124th and 125th is literally the perfect size for people who like to build models or even collect just die cast of especially with cars but I don't understand when people say they do custom diecast cars because are they actually building and making diecast pieces and melting their own metal and making their own molds or they just adding styrene on to the cars to make it custom because I've never seen custom diecast kits where you make your own diecast parts like a plastic model car kit. I do a lot of custom 124th and 125th scale but it's all done in styrene and actually sell it online on eBay and even have customers that request special models like of their own personal hot rods or cars or even their personal circle track cars they want exact replicas over they pay me for or even movie buffs and people that like to collect movie stuff I'll build them exact replicas of their movie cars that they want to go with their movie collections of their movie items I even do movie props and models of movie props and cars and spaceships and stuff like that for people's theaters as well I did a Star wars themed theater building one 16th scale models of pod racers and stuff like that to hang off the ceiling and it was Giant got paid me $50,000 to do it and it took 15,321 dollars in materials and resources and custom molds to do it and 120 hours per pod racer of labor went into them. That's how I make my living those making exact replicas of models for people's collectins and movie rooms and theaters and stuff like that but the fun part is when you get to go out to people's houses and take picture of their cars or their hot rod and so are their race cars and thousands of pictures and measuring and everything cuz that's really fun and you get to see some really really cool stuff that people have built hot rod wise or even just regular car wise I had one guy that wanted a replica of his private island vacation house he had just finished having built and owns on a his own private island so I took thousands and thousands and thousands of pictures and measuring stuff that was important inside his vacation house so that way when I did the exact scale replica of his vacation house that it was exactly how it is in real life so that way he can have it on display in his personal home so that way he can always look and feel like he's at his vacation home even though he's at his regular house doing work in his office which is kind of cool when you own a paradise and a getaway like that you kind of want to feel like you're there all the time so it is what it is and it makes me a living doing stuff like that you don't have to work for anybody on my own balls and I enjoy life and get to see some really cool stuff and get flown really cool places to take pictures and measure stuff for people's models they want built or even just doing models of what they want before a builder goes and build their house or has a car built or a car restored that way they know what they're getting before they spend the money to have the real thing done
I trust you but when it comes to high detailed collectibles, that scale is not something that is considered.

Looking for a lupo GTI in anything above. 1:43 scale any tips on how to find them?
I think in terms of pricing those 1/43s you're very much talking about high end models there as a decent 1/43 such as Ixo/Minichamps won't generally be anything like that amount. You've got an Ignition Model (I believe) in the video and that's about as expensive as you can get in 1/43.
Bro where you got the prices from :D 1:43 are normaly about 50 bucks an 1:18 begins usually by 50 with open end? 🤔
These are for higher end model cars.
@@modelcarshouston ah okay, than it makes sense :) thank you

Someone possibly has something out there boss! I specialize mainly in JDM casts.
I prefer 1/18 and some 1/24 scale. The storage space is the problem.
Yes, this is why 43 is very popular in Japan.
Sadly i can't see any more 1/86 scale model or 1/98 scale...
How much for that 1/12 red Mazda RX7
It was around $700
1/64 for me, because I buy so many cars lol, so I am limited to space for collecting so many cars

Yes, that's a completely different beast.

What happened to 1/24th? My favorite.
1/24th is not a common scale for this tier of collectibles.
@@modelcarshouston What do you mean, "this tier of collectibles"? In the U.S. it is very common, from low-end (Jada, Maisto, etc.) to high-end (Danbury Mint, Franklin Mint, etc.).
1:85 scale best collectable
Where is it?
I like1/12,1/24
1/12 is of the collector grade realm but 1/24 does not exist.
Not to mention the entire world works with centimeters
Isn’t there smaller cars?
Yes. There is but not for this caliber of model cars.
Why does 1/32 scale have alot of good models than you can find in 24 scales? (Lets take aside the detail quality, just couldnt find the ones that i like to collect)
What about 1:32
Unfortunately 1:32 is not a common scale used for collector grade model cars.
@@modelcarshouston really? I thought it was quite common since I own a fast and furious supra and dodge charger in 1:32
@@finn6302 JADA Toys is not a collector grade model. =)
The best size scale for me, I collect Bburago, many models in 1/32 scale
So these scales...aren't scales. If they were, the dimensions for each model would be different. The fact that he's defining the scale in terms of pre-determined measurements means that these cars are not scale models. The term 'scale' and the use of scale terms like '1/64th' seems to be intended to provide a rough estimate of the size of the car. Looking at these in-store, I very much doubt that these companies are actually producing their products to a scale.

How about a 1/32.
Collector grade does not size in that scale. Those are more the JADA Toys and Maisto line.
