    A lot of Cajun people came from the Canary Islands and other parts of Spain during the time of Spanish Lousiana. Great video. America has a lot of history and needs to be told. It isnt just the Mayflower.

    Hi, I am Canarian Spanish and I have recently learned about the Isleños culture. It's incredible that my ancestors, that came from so little islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, have been all around the Americas founding cities and towns, spreading their ADN and culture.

It's Saturday night, 1920 what happed the the person that call everyone in the barroom a Cajun? I just love history. I could not understand what the stew was called. What other seasoning was added to the vegetables and pork? Another fun video with some great looking food.

    I did some geneological research on my roots that led me back to the Canary Islands. The island was forcibly depopulated by the Spanish Crown in the 1700s and much of the people there went to three places: Cuba, Venezuela, and Louisiana.

    • @OutsidetheLevees

      Man I’d love to go to Cuba and see the influences there

    • @IslenoGutierrez
      @IslenoGutierrez ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutsidetheLeveesDon’t know if you know this, but the ships full of isleños in the 1700’s going to Louisiana would stop in Cuba first and some family members would get off in Cuba and start a life there while their other family members went on to settle Louisiana. Also, one of the ships had a 3 year layover in Cuba in 1783 because of war and that happened more. And because of this, we are blood related to many Cubans and Cuban-Americans as a great many of them are isleño descent.

    Great video, but since when do Isleños from St. Bernard Parish identify as Cajuns (referring to the title of your video)? Is it our generation that started identifying as Cajuns? Why do people feel the need to Cajunize everything?
    It really is a great video though. I just don’t know if they’d call themselves Cajuns.

    • @OutsidetheLevees
      @OutsidetheLevees  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In my business you’re not successful unless someone clicks on the video. You know as well I do the word Isleño doesn’t mean anything to 99.9% of earths population but “Cajun” is known worldwide. So it was my choice to use term “Spanish Cajuns” in order to pique the audience’s interest. Like it or not Isleño culture is very similar to Cajun. That’s why I chose to do that.
