Reveal the top seven cards of your library, then put those cards on the bottom of your library in any order. If a card named Stomping Slabs was revealed this way, Stomping Slabs deals 7 damage to any target.

Magic: the Gathering is a fine Wizards of the Coast product.
Music is "Goron City: An Appetite for Marbled Rock Roast" by some combination of Hajime Wakai, Manaka Kataoka, Maasa Miyoshi, Masato Ohashi, and/or Tsukasa Usui from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
don't listen to them, you're totally gonna go turn 1 mana dork into Stomping Slabs, Stomping Slabs, Stomping Slabs and get a clean 21 damage on turn 4
That's not how it works either. It's either 7 or 0. If you reveal more it's still 7 damage, and you're casting the other copies you find.
He's saying T2, T3, T4 slabs. I assume we're shuffling between casts somehow. @@atmaximum
Lantern of Insight is an artifact that costs (1) and has "(T) Shuffle target player's library". You need one Slabs in your hand and another on top of your deck to get an activation, so you'd only need to shuffle your library once. For a total of (7)(RRR) you've got 21 damage. In standard this is possible in by at least turn 4. if we could use just 2 Mox artifacts (wouldn't even need to be Mox Ruby) this could be done turn 3.
If we can use Ancestral Recall and Black Lotus, this is a turn 1 OTK.
Even as someone who used to employ Steel Wall in my cobbled-together red deck when I was a kid, I don't think this would've made the cut.
I can see this work with Grenzo and River Song, since it says "put those cards on the bottom of your library in ANY order."
You can essentially rig your card draw with River Song, and guarantee getting a creature with Grenzos ability
There are MUCH better cards that do the same type of thing
Just play scry cards, any of them.
this is one of those one with nothing sort of cards where it invites the Johnny within to come out and play. River Song and Grenzo already have gotten the nod in this comment section, but Stomping Slabs begs to be played in a deck with 4 mystical tutor, 4 spellseeker, and Scroll Rack. This is the sort of card I want in a forgetful fish pile. I'm playing this in silver boardered games with ______ . What a BEAUTIFUL card.
Maybe mana severence too
It's genuinely been a couple years since I last watched any MTG content period, and honestly, I'm glad it was this channel that I re-found first. Truly unique in the landscape and totally fun.
putting this one in my commander deck
Thank you, megapussi
A really simple fix to this card would be for it to deal a low amount of damage - 3 or 4 - by default, and deal the full 7 if you reveal another copy. Can't believe that design made it through playtesting. At least it's not a rare!
I feel like these super all-or-nothing kind of cards should come with some kind of consolation prize for the fail case. Like at least draw me a card or something if it doesn't work.
Looking at you, Stitch in Time.
"If you lose the flip, you get an additional upkeep after this one."
Shout out to Fiery Gambit!
There’s probably some infinite combo where you whittle your deck to 7 cards and keep bot decking them from grave to keep it going or something
This card would be exceptionally funny to copy a bunch of times, and just dig 7 with each copy looking for your other Stomping Slabs. Every so many copies is like a guaranteed activation after all (unless it's the last copy in your deck, of course)
this seems like a card best made for a dandan variant
What an overlooked gem! This is going straight into the Commander deck I’ve been tinkering with.
Okay, but this seems like a fun card to build a red dandan deck around.
Just make a Doomsday pile with 4 Stomping Slabs! /s
My main gripe with this card is that it is usually a first result when i look up "stomping" on cardhoarder, when i am clearly looking for stomping ground. Because of that i have to type the whole thing every time
first time in a random card talk that all it was was just talking about how Bad the card is
Possibly the best magic the gathering card ever printed.
In the scenario given, there is an expected damage value of about 3, so you are paying 3 to deal 3 damage to your opponent, on average
I love the idea of like, cascade but without actually casting anything? I feel like you definitely *could* make this card good, but tbh just having it scale with how many you revealed could be enough to make it playable at least 😅
This is such a cool card though! I wonder how much you could take advantage of this odd effect if you really went all out to make it work. There has got to be a way.
Paradigm Shift + Mana Severance leaving only 3 Stomping Slabs in your library.
Or maybe Stomping Slabs to set the bottom card of the library, then Tunnel Vision to put all but that card into your graveyard. Then something? Definitely going to think this one over though. Neat card.
Love the art of this card
not to mention that casting the 4th copy does nothing.
Lol couldn't be me typing the exact thing about limited as you said it
saw this card two days ago, was really baffled by it lol
Tipp: "Contingency plan" or "Taigam scheming" both have basicly surveil 5 and cost only 2 mana. And if you saw through your next 5 cards and found nothing usefull and nothing you can affortd to put in your graveyard right now, this card could help re-arrange the next card on top of youf deck. Its NOT perfect but...Hey its just an idea ^^"...
A legend among bad cards
I was gonna say if you made this one of those “any number” cards and lowered the damage for balance it’d be playable but that’s literally just Dragon’s Approach
At 42%, you're going to on average do three damage. Even arguing that seven damage to a creature can be useful where three isn't, you're still paying three to do on average three damage, which is worse rate than most burn.
This would be hilarious if you could have any number in your deck. I would build a 65 Stomping Slab/34 Mountains deck just for fun.
and I play it in commander! (grenzo shenanigans)
But Zorak, by using Stomping Slabs and missing I can take the seven bad cards on the top of my deck and shunt them away so I can draw my good cards!
What do you mean, "why do I have seven bad cards in my deck that I'm apparently excited to get rid of"?
Uhhhhhh
I don't understand the question.
It's not a great use, but you could use it with Doomsday? If there are only 5 cards left in your library and 3 or 4 of them are Stomping Slabs, you can guarantee at least 3 activations. (Unfortunately the fourth is still useless on its own.)
I always thought this card was bad. Little did I know, this card is REALLY bad.
Man I'm too yugioh ftk brained for this, because I look and at this and just see slash draw and think, man this ftk material as long as you mill half your deck then return at least 1 copy to the top of your deck
YAAA BOI.
I could make a similar card that would be playable. Like if you find one shuffle this card into your library.
You know, MTGO probably offered triple Morningtide as a draft option when the set came out. I imagine this card had a greater impact there.
Wasn't Morningtide also drafted together with Lorwyn?
I appreciate weird card designs that had the courage to be bad.
Now I'm wondering if you could maybe get away woth playing this card in a bottom of deck matters commander deck like grenzo dungeon warden or river song although tbh even then it seems kinda awful
Yeah the math on this card is terrible in a 60 card deck. That's why I play this card in commander, where bad cards can shine 😌
What's that? I'm getting a call
This is a draft meme card if I even seen one, you would likely need 4 total to be decent which would mean you need one in a foil slot most likely
Contemporary Magic design may have its flaws, but at least they don't print pointless garbage like this or Search the City any more.
The card isn't good because the payoff isn't worth the setup, but there's absolutely ways to guarantee getting the 7 damage for 3 mana, and being able to deal 7 to your opponent is pretty significant in any 20 life format. If you're playing with sensei's divining top or brainstorm/ponder effects or mystical tutor for some reason, those are all reliable ways of setting it up. If you happen to know the top card(s) of your deck often from surveil lands or scry effects you could fire it off when you know that it will do something. The same set this card was in also had the 'clash' mechanic which revealed the top card of each player's deck (and was a horrible rng mechanic but that's neither here nor there).
Bad? Yeah this card sucks. Totally unusable one with nothing tier card? Nah, people play worse cards all the time. Only talking about the ways in which the card doesn't work seems rather odd, even One with Nothing you can do stupid shit with (restore) balance or use it as tech against owling mine or whatever, and that's interesting.
Huh, wonder where my comment went.
Just play a fetchland to shuffle the deck. 😐
