    Hello,
    Is there a site I can go to learn more about the grades for wires? Just started a new job in the steel industry and we deal with steel wire. I’m trying to learn more.

      I've stripped a lot of coax cable. Then I put a mag to it and was shocked that this copper looking wire is attracted to a magnet. Why is this so? I thought all coax was copper.

    Hey there, I was wondering about the different types of phone charger cables and house appliance cables? Could you possible tell me the differences in them bc I have been told that a lot of it had real silver and real gold in them…

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  ปีที่แล้ว

      They will have very small traces of precious metals- but not nearly enough to save.

      We talk about Cat 5/6 wire in this blog we wrote iscrapapp.com/blog/what-wires-are-worth-stripping-for/

    Cat 5 and 6 confuses me. People say it has a high value but to me it looks like a very bad grade of scrap wire. The recycling place used to give us a dollar a pound but they closed.
    Got a couple burlap bags full of it but no one buys it around here.

    What about car wire harness? Price and how to scrap?

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prices vary, but without the ends or the plastic jacket it is better than a regular wire.

    I’m confused why freshly stripped copper wire that is less smaller than 16 gauge, is classed the same as dirty corroded copper, copper with varnish, solder, paint, and tin coating. Doesn’t make sense to me.
    I took a few hundred pounds of stripped copper to a yard in Toronto Canada a year ago and they didn’t even question the size of strands, they gave me bare bright. How is there no clarity here :).

    Right off the bat she told you bad info. She said not to strip that wire, and I say why not. In fact she was wrong because she said to strip it only if you have a large amount? What’s the difference? Small amount or large? If it’s about how much money you make per hour stripping that wire than there is none. And that is what it is about. Ironically when you have a large amount of that stuff is when you do not strip it. Because it will take too long. It’s better to strip it if you only have a little. With that said I purchased a stripper an electric wire stripper that will eat through about 60 feet of jacket per minute so I will absolutely strip that solid core wire. The only wire I will not strip is thin wound wire as stripping thin wound wire is not fun. Any wire with a solid core is fun and satisfying to strip. I find it therapeutic stripping the jacket off copper wire then winding it around my fingers into a bunch.

      And a lot of people would agree with you! These are suggestions based on our experience, however, we do understand that there are a lot of people who will strip ANYTHING and have the time to do so. Appreciate your feedback nonetheless 👍

    Scrapping 101. NEVER sell copper wire to scrap yards that won't street sell. Because it goes STRAIGHT TO CHINA. Thanks for showing the different sizes though and what's in them. Very appreciated. 🤙🤙🤙

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not always, many yards will sell domestically to wire choppers who will also refine domestically.

      Only in states where people don't complain about $30/hour pay. As to why domestic is so expensive.
