I think the school bus only stopped to asses damage before moving on, but if he had just moved it on before getting out to do that it might have made more options available for those that followed. Hind sight's 20/20.

reminds me of what happened this spring, coming over the crest of a steep bridge and there was a broke down car stopped in the left lane in front of me and i couldn't stop in time for it, just skidded on ice but there was another car approaching in the right lane. i had to choose hitting the stopped car or squeezing between them, and i made it! i don't know how but all three of us across on that narrow two lane bridge somehow all fit without touching

Buses generally have the engine in the back, and a truck will have loads of cargo in the back, so both are good things to be sat in or to use as a barricade. It's really common for truckers to put their truck over several lanes to 'shield' a crash, I've done it myself.

But what you missed is that overpasses whether curved, (which is worse) or straight will have any standing water freeze, thus making them real hazards. This has been point out in almost every other DMV manual across the USA. Over passes do not have ground under them which keeps the concrete from getting too cold such that water freezes on them !

Hard to know how fast to be going on blind curves, especially when you are not accustomed to or new to driving in that area. That School Bus did right by high tailing it off that bridge. I've seen too many accidents where stationary vehicles or pedestrians have been hit in my years as a trucker. I never stop in a situation like this. Get my vehicle to safety first, as far as I'm concerned, on a road like that you may as well be sat on a runway or train tracks. People don't consider fast roads to be danger areas, despite themselves having failed to be able to stop. Of course, if you hit something with enough force, then you have no choice.
The guy who walked up the ramp took a calculated risk but he stayed on the inside of the curve which is the safest place (given there's no pedestrian refuse). They needed to walk away so it makes sense to walk towards traffic.

Typical TH-cam commenters calling out other people and insulting people for no fucking reason,
Why do TH-cam commenters always say "you should not be driving" when they know it's disrespectful?
Saying "you should not be driving" is kinda like saying "you should not be mowing your lawn". So you also want people's lawns to overgrow?

Not really anyone with a brain can see snow + cold temperatures will result in icy roads. American logic is that normal speeds are fine for poor conditions thus the crashes

No, dumb-dumb: They have a radio, dispatch likely told them to leave knowing the driver, spot, et cetera and for them to get where they need to be seeing as there was absolutely zero point to sticking around.

Had the bus not moved and gotten to a safer place, it would have put the kids at more risk of injury.

    • @wolfpacva
      @wolfpacva 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@1packatak it could have pulled to the shoulder not driven away from the scene , so it was still a hit and run and the driver should be fired

You can't just exit your vehicle and then stand there in the kill zone! Wake up you stoopid mor ons! Seek safety off of the roadway, the opposite direction of oncoming traffic!

Also calling other people for morons means they might call you a moron. Do you also throw rocks at other people's cars?I bet you also yell the N-word at other people

Imagine a solar array that stores heat and releases it to the bridge deck so as to keep the pavement about 5 degrees warmer than ambient during icing conditions --
Well ,or coal fired but that would offend people

some bridges have nozzles inbedded into the concrete that can spray ice-melt across the surface of the road.
It's pretty expensive though, and people would rather have their tax money go to sports stadiums
