Dave, I've watched dozens of your videos over the last couple weeks. I've also started watching bushcrafting videos from some other TH-camrs, and, while some of them are pretty good overall, I've yet to find anyone else that comes anywhere close to having your level of bushcraft/survival skill as well as the ability to to teach it in a way that both conveys the information properly and keeps the viewer interested. You have a true gift. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Thank you for this great video of a great product. I think I need one. First rule of hammock-hanging: Never hang higher than you are willing to fall. Second rule: Never hang above anything on which you are not willing to land.
Dave, Slept in a hammock in my home as my bed for about 2 years. Best rest ever, I appreciate the fact you left the blooper part in there. Happened to me once when I re-hung the hammock after a camping trip and did not put my toggle in securely. Always wondered what I looked like hitting the deck, did the same thing you did..... laughed at myself for a good minute or two.
Oh man.....i sure like the versatility of that piece of gear. A poncho looks about the right size for a roof. This product will be great no doubt about it, great work everyone involved.
Dave you are the modern day George Washington Sears and Horace Kephart, only better. Consider this in 1890 the U.S. population was 62,947,714 as of today you have 26,778,004 views and 145,733 subscribers. Through you their lessons have reached a wider audience then they had when they were alive. While you humbly claim to stand on their shoulders ...it is you who have lifted them up for all to see and for that I thank you. Keep up the great work Brother!
Wow! Dave you have really hit this one out of the park! I love the fact that you listen to your people and incorporate their thoughts and ideas into your practices. We can never stop learning from each other, well done brother! I can't wait to get one!
WOW finally a system I can imagine myself using. I guess I am some sort of wussy cause I like to smooth it when I am in the woods this truly looks like "smoothing it" just add some sort of stick/leaves and rammed earth shelter a stove and I would be set I also want to thank you for all that you do you are saving lives thank you flint
I just bought a camo Treklight Double Hammock and after sleeping in it for a couple nights on my last trip into the woods I realized I don't really like how it curls up on the sides like a coccoon. I can't wait to buy one of these Dave because it looks like it solves that problem and it's more traditional which I am a huge fan of also. I've been loving my Pathfinder Canteen/Cook Set too! Thanks for making these awesome products Dave!
THAT IS THE PRODUCT! I am headed over to Duluth to check it out. I like the basket shape, the pillow possibility. This beats the plastic garbage bag hack (good enough for emergency survival.) Nessmuk and Kephardt's ideas have stimulated my outdoor adventures for years (and fueled my fantasies in the 'closed' season.
That is great ! And it dose look like my grandpa's backyard hammock , that brings back some good memories for me , one of the best naps i ever took ! This is something I would take with me out in the woods , no doubt and I wouldn't feel bad not sharing . Thanks Dave !!!
got mine but haven't had a chance to really test it out. I love the material and it attaches easily to my metal frame pack so I can haul more for a longer trip in the bush. If I can ever get a chance to go on one.
wow Dave. i have been watching you on here for years even before you did duel survival and seeing how you have grown as a teacher and seeing how much you have learned too is really cool. this is the coolest thing yet. keep it up sir.
That is sweet. Using the hammock and wool blanket as a pack to store other kit items along with the havver sack you have a pretty simplified lit and the width of that hammock well it is really nice. Thanks again for the review.
Dude that thing is the bomb! Gotta love anything Duluth to begin with. Something like that is perfect for someone like me with bad back problems. I love it! I am able to sleep in a hammock comfortably. Great video Dave as always.
Man, I could see using this for my motorcycle romps around the state. Awesome piece of gear, Dave. Looking forward to seeing it in the store once you settle on a price. Thanks again! Another quality product.
Why aren't there more people producing products like this? Well thought about, made to last and produced in your own country? . . You are soooo great, Dave!!!
What I also like about the bedroll , is that it's heavy material that the "skeeters" can't get you from underneath. In addition, what about adding a length of mosquito netting for insects. Would be hardly any added weight. Love all the videos-very practical.
Hahaha nice ending - happened to me once too! When tying of the ropes just wrap around the tree once more and put a the same knot you use for tying laces (dont know the name). Also I have found that I find sleeping in a gathered end hammock more comfortable than a bridge hammock (like you had set it up). In a bridge I had cramped shoulders after a while. I was very surprised by that too. With this design a gathered end is also possible.
Versatile functionality at it's finest. Looks like it would save me a lot of backache in the morning using it as a hammock. Really liked the blooper too Dave! Nice to see you're still common man enough to laugh at yourself.
Dave I think the AT hikers call that type of hammock a bridge hammock. I could see using that for urban stealth camping. Next time you are at a store look at the cart racks that would be IDEAL to tie off on a cart rack for a cool stealth camping location. Surround yourself with baskets and sleep all night. I really like this Dave I have been trying stealth camping and using a ratchet strap is a great tool to turn any site into a sleeping spot. I would call it they hybrid hammock. You are welcome
Oh wow! This thing looks great! I have been looking for a bedroll, but havent found anything that really grabbed me. Definitely going to pick one of these up! The hammock feature totally sells it for me! Nice work!
Throw in a 155mm ammo case rolled inside that bedroll and you got yourself a carry compartment that you can access on the fly. Stuff like a stove, pogie bait, personal carry items, etc. No need to open your bedroll to access items. Just pop the lid and tip the bedroll. Viola!
paracord stretches, don't want to use as a suspension. If you do, you want to use 3-4 strands worth to reduce pressures on individual lines to reduce overall stretch. Rather just have a hank of repel rope for this. I use a WBRR hammock for backpacking but I'm really liking this doohickey you got here Dave. Price is steep though. My WBRR with silny, titanium and dynaglide suspension and spreader bars is still under 200.00
Hello Dave. Men I love your videos! Are excellent, I learn a lot from them, and of course, I transmit to my scouts. This your bed is fantastic! I will make one for me, and pass the lesson for the Scouts. Thanks for the incredible work do you do around here. Your information will not be missed! A big hug!
Hi Dave I just checked out the R & D video for this product and my only question/ suggestion would be is to add a D-Ring in the middle for when used as a Lean-to tie out for head room. Thank you for all your videos & you have a very pretty wife.
i didn't realize you had a youtube channel, I saw you on dual survival and was very surprised when I watched it one day and someone else was on instead. but im glad I found this channel the other day because this bedroll is something I want, its a great product
Dave! Great video, great product!!! Final revisions, PERFECT!!! REALLY like the end slots, for the spreader bars. Figured out how to fix your "gravitational challenged" conumdrum. Along with other items, I carry two Cold Steel Escrima sticks for personal protection. Although only 32", with the correct knot configuration, they will work! And, as a former Navy Corpsman, stationed with a number of Marine Corps combat units (WHOLE 'another story, LOL!!!), I've carried my share of stretchers. My thought is, heavy duty canvas handles on each side, or a hand hole on either side, allowing the pole to be grasped in. the middle by additional stretcher bearers. Just my thoughts, on an already perfect product!!! I've been looking for a hammock system for over two years now. My search is FINALLY over!!! Keep on keeping on, my brother!!!!!
Dave you should offer as an add on for that a pre cut set of heavy duty nylon webbing or some sort pre set up to fish threw the loops and adjustable at the ends via a caribeener so all someone has to do is get there two sticks, kinda a fast system if your familiar with the slap straps they use with the eno hammock system would be kool for those people that aren't as mountain saavvy as you are, other than that, that is a bad ass piece of kit
Hahaha...loved the end. Hope you didn't bust your rump brother. Note to self; 'Use bigger sticks'. LOL I do love this set up. What a great piece of gear to have. Love the built in pillow. That was a great 'Add'. I have to have this bad boy. Thanks Dave for yet another great video.
dave i love the look of it, and as a hammock i think i d love it, i got a great laugh out of the last time you got in it which hurt worse your pride or the sudden stop. i ve enjoyed you videos very much and you common sense approach. thank you
Awesome piece of kit! Will check your website for one.The canvas is definately better in the heat than nylon, great idea.A similar style was out in the 1980s. We used them in the Malaysian jungle but most were left at the barracks because the nylon was too uncomfortable to sleep on (hot and sweaty).Could I suggest 3 canvas webbing handles down each side which makes it an instant emergency stretcher that 4 to 6 people can manage without having to cut poles for a frame.
I Bought a bed roll from Duluth before I saw this so now I am using my leatherworking skills and trying to make that work as a hammock. I have it almost done but did have trouble with paracord. I have a rope I am going to try in the morning. I will let y'all know how it turns out. may try a video we will see.
Hi Dave, very cool hammock set up. You use a wool blanket and i have watched that you said with a good wool blanket you can get down to freezing temps, since you can dbl it up with a queen size. I have a army surplus, like 60/40 or 70/30 not sure and only twin size. so that isnt much better then a summer blanket, and wont be anygood for freezing temps alone eh?
Nice setup, though it is a bit on the heavy side. By comparison, my HH is under 3lbs and that includes the tarp. Might I suggest you halve the canvas thickness and make a tube (triple stitch the long seam with a good bit of overlap). This would give you the same result, though could be deployed as a tube shelter if desired.
Good idea but you could just buy yourself a USGI bug net and roll it up inside it. Having them separate would give you a lot more versatility and make them more multi use. If they were together you'd have to worry about them netting getting in the way of each other when you aren't using the net. For example in arctic conditions you probably won't need a bug net. Also if the net is separate you can use it for fishing and other things of that nature. Just a suggestion.
heck yea brother, wow. and a skeeter net. yep the best ever hammock i ever seen. flat out perty. I'm getting me one. thanks dave for your imput on the build of the best peace of gear ever. your brother bill
well dave .... looks a a very good and high quality product. since you mentioned that adding more mods to it would raise the price up. maybe you can do vids on some mods we can do to our own bed rolls or maybe a contest with viewer submitted ideas. just a thought. great vid
Another nice product Mr. Canterbury. The Grommet holes appear of limited value as why not just run a rope or stick through flap plus you get to the corner. I slept on a old mil cot with wood frame and net box over head I liked it, a net and tarp would complete the set here. A user could add on there own. I would like to see if paracord is up to the task for rope, or bank line.
Thank you for showing that even you can have a miss hap. Is there a weight restriction for it as a hammock? Im not light and I would be worried that the stitching would let go plus the girl friend might want to hop in to.
Those tubes on the bedroll are pretty good size, I'm sure that as long as you found the proper thickness in branch to fit your requirements you'de be fine. It's pretty thick canvas so I don't think you'de rip it up.
That's awesome Dave...I'd call it "The Canterbury Bedroll". Nessmuk and Kephart have things named after them, why not you? Thanks for the great vids brother and keep 'em comin!
hey dave i really dig this bedroll id love to get one but i just bought a old army cot and i use it like this and it only costed 20 bucks to pick that up but i for sure going to get me one when i can afford it
I think instead of just a pillow pocket it should be full body, that way you could stuff it with a pad or wool blanket and wouldn't have to worry about it shifting, you could even stuff it with straw, leaves, ect for insulation in a pinch

'Not being "tacoed" in' is the best descriptive term I have heard in years! Perfectly described the feeling and gave a great mental image. Respect.
Thank you for this great video of a great product. I think I need one.

Got mine today. Amazing work by Duluth. Just 14 days from order to arrival in Finland, Europe. Will try this out during the next three weeks.

Impressed with yoyr creativity, the inovation, design and help you get from the communitiy of survival and bushcraft!
I just bought a camo Treklight Double Hammock and after sleeping in it for a couple nights on my last trip into the woods I realized I don't really like how it curls up on the sides like a coccoon. I absolutely love the addition of the blooper at the end. You've got a good laugh.
Thanks Dave! Just picked one up with the 8x8 pathfinder canvas tarp. Can't wait to try them out.

Good gear Dave.

that is by far THE coolest thing you guys have come up with yet. i want one so bad, but i am flipping unemployed!
I love stuff like this. Very cool how you've taken feedback from viewers and rolled in some great improvements.
What an awesome product. Great job Dave and great job Deluth Pack Co.
Why aren't there more people producing products like this?
Well thought about, made to last and produced in your own country?

You are soooo great, Dave!!!
Outstanding! It may make me ditch my Hennessy Hammock. Thanks for pioneering this Dave.

Love the blooper at the end. It's good to laugh at yourself whenever you can. Have a good one Dave!
Man I like the fact it doesn't wrap around you when you lay in it! Great stuff!
Versatile functionality at it's finest. Looks like it would save me a lot of backache in the morning using it as a hammock. Really liked the blooper too Dave! Nice to see you're still common man enough to laugh at yourself.

I love your videos brother, the down to earth style and the respect for the old ways, keep up the good work and stay strong!
That looks rock solid.I have a Eno hammock, and can not sleep a whole night in it. I believe this would be the hammock fix i am looking for.
Oh wow! This thing looks great! I have been looking for a bedroll, but havent found anything that really grabbed me. Definitely going to pick one of these up! The hammock feature totally sells it for me! Nice work!
I love how you fall and get up laughing! I will have to save my pennies for this one!
Looks very comfortable, great bedroll, well done, thanks for showing, take care, Taro
Throw in a 155mm ammo case rolled inside that bedroll and you got yourself a carry compartment that you can access on the fly. Stuff like a stove, pogie bait, personal carry items, etc. No need to open your bedroll to access items. Just pop the lid and tip the bedroll. Viola!
You can do the same thing with a regular net style hammock. It works really good. I got the hammocks off of E bay for $5 a piece. Thanks for the idea.
paracord stretches, don't want to use as a suspension. If you do, you want to use 3-4 strands worth to reduce pressures on individual lines to reduce overall stretch. Great set-up Dave, well thought out. And Duluth quality is 1st rate.
Another point to make is the heavy fabric should provide protection against mosquitoes, nice work!
Hi Dave I just checked out the R & D video for this product and my only question/ suggestion would be is to add a D-Ring in the middle for when used as a Lean-to tie out for head room. Thank you for all your videos & you have a very pretty wife.
awesome set up,,,the end bars really make it,,normally hammocks wrap me up like a taco as you said,,,this opens out great!
i didn't realize you had a youtube channel, I saw you on dual survival and was very surprised when I watched it one day and someone else was on instead. but im glad I found this channel the other day because this bedroll is something I want, its a great product
Great looking product Dave, I've been hangin to see what it would turn out like.lots of great concepts put together makes another multi use item.
Dave! Great video, great product!!! Final revisions, PERFECT!!! REALLY like the end slots, for the spreader bars. Figured out how to fix your "gravitational challenged" conumdrum. Blooper was priceless!! Thanks for including it.
Love Duluth and I gotta say, thats one bad ass tarp/everything!! Great job guys!
Man, that looks like a sweet setup! Sleeping on my side with a pad is OK, but that looks like the bomb!
That is a really excellent design...nice work.
I see dropping one end low and using the corner cutout as an awesome emergency rain catch, too.
Dave you should offer as an add on for that a pre cut set of heavy duty nylon webbing or some sort pre set up to fish threw the loops and adjustable at the ends via a caribeener so all someone has to do is get there two sticks, kinda a fast system if your familiar with the slap straps they use with the eno hammock system would be kool for those people that aren't as mountain saavvy as you are, other than that, that is a bad ass piece of kit

just got mine in the mail last night... looking forward to trying it out...
thanks
Seems you can still get it at Duluth. On the site go to "other" then "camp and hike" then "bedrolls" It's in there.
dave i love the look of it, and as a hammock i think i d love it, i got a great laugh out of the last time you got in it which hurt worse your pride or the sudden stop. i ve enjoyed you videos very much and you common sense approach. thank you

Awesome bedroll. I have to say I frikkin lost it when that stick broke at the end. hahaha
Great job Dave! The first widernessoutfitters Bridge hammock! I'd buy one for sure! Thanks!
I Bought a bed roll from Duluth before I saw this so now I am using my leatherworking skills and trying to make that work as a hammock. I have it almost done but did have trouble with paracord. I have a rope I am going to try in the morning. I will let y'all know how it turns out. may try a video we will see.
That is awsome!! Well worth weight and so on. NIce blooper at the end Dave
Very nice Dave , yet another great product to consider
Dave, that looks great :) . For all the intended purposes, this is as about as perfect a product as one could reasonably expect.
Great system and gear. ...looks very good, cool and comfy. Best wishes, Sepp ps cool outtake.
Hey Dave calling it the Pathfinder Bed Roll sounds good to me. I want one!! Stewart
that IS a great name KAMP . deb and i planning our first pack-out and this may well be along with us later on .... very nice .
Nice, just went to the top of my list. Great job Dave and collaborators!
Sean
Still smilin' even after a quick drop and sudden stop on your backside . . . you are a king among men :-) Love the blooper reel.
That looks like great kit Dave.. well made should last a long long time
Just would like to say that the new website is pretty sweet
Nice setup, though it is a bit on the heavy side. By comparison, my HH is under 3lbs and that includes the tarp. Might I suggest you halve the canvas thickness and make a tube (triple stitch the long seam with a good bit of overlap). This would give you the same result, though could be deployed as a tube shelter if desired.
That is one great product! Dave you find/make/develop best stuff! Looks really good.
THX for sharing!
I'm getting me one. thanks dave for your imput on the build of the best peace of gear ever.
your brother bill
well dave .... looks a a very good and high quality product. since you mentioned that adding more mods to it would raise the price up. maybe you can do vids on some mods we can do to our own bed rolls or maybe a contest with viewer submitted ideas. just a thought. great vid
Dave.... that is fantastic. Where and when can I get this. Nothing better for a Canadian Summer, heck, Fall, Winter and Spring. Nice work!
it really turned out fantastic
Now that almost looks like a bridge style hammock!
LOL at the end...now I understand the crazy knot on the tree!!
Dave love the blooper, looks like you had one too many burgers for that stick!
I enjoyed that Dave:"Pathfinder Hammock Bed Roll"
Love this. Could also be used to collect water when raining.
Well. I'll be buying one of these as soon as they are available.
I would like to see you try this out during a multi day trek
Duluth has it available now and it's called the Pathfinder Log Cot. 2 more paydays and I'll have mine on order :)
AWESOME! And I assume because it's made by Duluth, that it's fire resistant? I LOVE this setup~!
great video and great product Dave thanks.
hey dave i really dig this bedroll id love to get one but i just bought a old army cot and i use it like this and it only costed 20 bucks to pick that up but i for sure going to get me one when i can afford it
Lol. Thanks for showing the stick breaking. It could happen to any of us. God bless!
I think instead of just a pillow pocket it should be full body, that way you could stuff it with a pad or wool blanket and wouldn't have to worry about it shifting, you could even stuff it with straw, leaves, ect for insulation in a pinch
VERY cool video, looks like an impressive product
