  • This is what i'm planning to use to power my aquaponics barrels this year. Take a look as I build a diy solar panel stand out of 1/2" conduit. Hopefully we get some sun outside soon so I can test it out!

Ren-oh-gee. Cool project. Most solar panel company's I'm aware of always say to attach the battery to the controller before you connect the solar panel to controller to avoid damaging the charge controller. You could use a switch between the panels and the controller to disconnect the panels anytime the battery is removed or disconnected.

Wow Greg Great Job... Gave me some ideas about making a portable system I can take with me! Thanks

You probably need much more adjustability of panels. That 'dry box' is not dry. If you closely examine it you will see that rain can leak in. Many storage boxes are similarly flawed in design. I don't know the current draw of your pump or amount of intended use, but with that smallish battery it seems you would be wasting a good capacity of the solar panel. Once that battery is charged any additional output of your solar panel is wasted.

Is there a solution to repair a broken solar panel?

If you strip the wire out a little longer and doubled it over to make the wire a little thicker. Just a quick an easy fix and it won't harm anything.

I have used solar on my house for 3 years now and that saved me a ton of money with all my tanks . Now to get the greenhouse working on solar .

Steel conduit? Sort of defeats the portability goal.
