im actuely a SHADOWS FAN . i was lucky grew up in the 60s . . but there were some great and unique bands . and FREDDIE and the DREAMERS were awesome. you should look on utube with FREDDIE singing with the RAPIERS . i know the lead guitarist . and talk to him on the phone . im GERRY XX
Unfortunately I wasn't there, as I wasn't born until 1979, but I have always loved the era and wish that I had been a part of it. Freddie was a wonderful entertainer, have enjoyed his work for years now:)
"I understand" is a beautiful and sincere song, I agree. It's a favorite of mine. While I love Freddie's humor and energy, I also believe that he was a serious musician, much more than he gave himself credit for!
I was a teen ager during that wonderful time of the 60's but am sorry to say I never heard this song until now. It's terrific. It's very Freddie and the Dreamers which is to say it's got everything a song should have-great melody and beat, sincere lyrics, easy listening in the way music used to be and it's the kind of song that brings a smile and memory. I miss that special time.
Oh, Freddie, I think you already have said "The Things I'd Like To Say." A delightful song done as only Freddie and The Dreamers could do it. This is really an uplifting, fun song. Just wonderful. This definitely screams 1960s! Thank you for this post.

I wish I had found them sooner. I love their music. I have read the comments and maybe some fans from their heyday could help me out. Their film "Cuckoo Patrol", what ever happened to the three songs they did in the film. They were cool. Its bad enough that I cant find a correct discography or a cd where a song hasn't been cut out. Serenadesong I was born in 72 and know how you feel. Wish I had been a part of this era too.
Cuckoo Patrol was made in 1965 and not released until 1967. Unfortunately, Freddie & the Dreamers star was on the wane by the time it was released EMI were losing interest in them.
Yeah, it would be wonderful if EMI released a set like that, although to date I haven't heard of any plans to do so unfortunately! He really does deserve the respect. He worked hard at what he did.
@webothlovesoup Thank you for watching:) Freddie was indeed a unique and gifted entertainer who could always bring a smile to your face. I have loved him for years.
Norman Smith had mentioned this song when in a feature for The Beatles Book in 1965. He wanted to give it to The Beatles who to be fair to them gave it serious consideration, but opted for Ringo to sing Act Naturally instead.
If I am asked which place in time I would like to go back to it would have to be the end of 1962 as a teenager when rock & roll in the UK changed beyond recognition.
When Norman Hurricane Smith got to number 2 in the USA Cashbox chart with Oh Babe What Would You Say, John Lennon sent a telegram asking him to write a hit song for him!
Freddie was a great guy. I was lucky to work with him back in 1999. Fun to be with him in his Range Rover as we drove around Sleaford in Lincolnshire.
They and the other Liverpool & Manchester groups that followed The Beatles deserve to have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
nobody took them seriuosly but they were great musicians. and FREDDIE GARITY had a wonderful voice . ,
Very true, they put a lot of work into their music, and into their stage routine.

Freddie Garrity was the most outstanding British comedian and musician!
I love these guys so much! So does my little 2 year old granddaughter!❤️

Brilliant. Artists.
Wish we could go back in time.

The band also appeared in Every Days a Holiday aka Sea Side Swingers, and Out of Sight

They deserve their own anthology!
I will definitely check it out. It's late here now, so I will have to do so tomorrow, but I will watch it. Thanks for the share.
Very nice! Shared on Facebook

Originally released on the flip side of "A Little You" in June 1965.
Uplifting songs, it s obvious that he was not appreciated nor respected as the talented entertainer that he was and cute too
RIP Derek, Freddie and Bernie
@Bobchai Thank you, and thanks for the share!
What pop music should be
Sounds a lot like "Tell Me When" by the Applejacks.
yes, in a big way. I checked and I believe different composers.
they covered that song
Written by the then The Beatles producer Norman 'Normal' Smith.

Who Remembers Little Big Time, Oliver in The Overworld? A bit before you were born Serenade Song!
When Norman Hurricane Smith got to number 2 in the USA Cashbox chart with Oh Babe What Would You Say, John Lennon sent a telegram asking him to write a hit song for him!
what's that instrument on the intro and on the solo?
It sounds like the same type of piano or something like that that they used in some of their other recordings.
Written and produced by Norman "Hurricane" Smith
Father of Devo ?
