He was classically trained in violin and piano since the age of 6 and he had plans to go to college to study classical music. But the year he graduated high school he auditioned for the largest and most well-known Korean entertainment company, SM Entertainment, when they held auditions in Canada and he impressed them so much with his violin dance routine that they signed him right away.
