I love how they basically made her Special Talent to be "Happy Accidents." She's ALWAYS messing up somepony's plans, but it consistently turns out to be the best possible outcome- she changes little Pistachio's life trajectory by shipping a hat to the wrong address, she makes setting off fireworks inside a building onto a good thing, and she even saves all of Equestria and much of the greater territories by ruining Tempest's shot. I see her Cutie Mark as being kinda like... bubble wrap? Like, it softens the blow when accidents happen. Its a really nice message to have, because no matter how people interpret her, just as a bit of a jinx, to being outright developmentally impaired, (which was a common early idea) it shows that people like that are still valid, loved and even important in Equestria. Even if, in the short term, people can get a bit frustrated with her.
I never noticed the Derpy backstory, that actually makes her character incredibly relatable. I used to have really good eyesight when I was a kid and now I need glasses to see anything more than 20 feet away from me (and things within 20 feet are still blurry). It suddenly makes me respect DHX’s inclusion of the character even more. She’s literally me.
It's weird that, though out my life I had to wear glasses do to my lazy eye, now I don't have to due to finding out that my brain adapted to my eye. The fact is that human biology has changed a lot. We know more about it now than we did years ago, and new organs are being discovered.
So a couple of karens complained about her being a disabled stereotype even though she was loved by the neurodivents and other disabilities. Also, i also have a lazy eye, and then they got rid of he. One of the directors has a disabled son, and she doesn't seem to mind ditsy do, bubbles, muffins, durpy.
Eye problems aren’t something you’re always born with and they don’t happen right away. Her eyes being bad then ok and then bad and staying that way is realistic to a lot of people in real life. I know it’s a mistake in cartoon until they decided to just keep it. But wanted to explain a realistic way of why that’d be that way. Also she isn’t offensive cuz people with eye problems are clumsy in real life (i’m one of them). She isn’t hated in universe or real life. Characters were always kind to her.
The legend of The Last Roundup’s Derpygate is absolutely insane, but perhaps not as insane as Derpyzilla becoming the destroyer of worlds in r/place 2022.
When you mentioned the naming changes, I thought back to how I worked my brain around this. Her full name in my eyes is: Derpy Muffin's Ditzy Doo. Also why the hell do you have a Colorado state flag if you're a Yooper?
I like to think that Derpy’s displaced eyes actually causes a split in the middle, which makes it difficult to tell how high or low or how close it actually is. The reason why I like to think this is because it makes sense why she occasionally flies into hanging signs.

As someone with an Intellectual Disability, her character means SO MUCH to me.
