Hi Erv, I like your garden. It's so healthy and peaceful to be outside puttering around, isn't it? I'm in the Panhandle of Florida; last year I had a tiny garden surrounded by landscaping rocks and filled with really good vegetable soil from the hardware store. I was very dismayed that nothing would grow except the mint that I had planted - everything else just died. I wasn't going to plant anything this year but several weeks ago I suddenly felt like I wanted to try again. I moved my little gardening area to right in front of my porch, reassembled the rocks and then filled the space inside with the soil from the other garden. The only vegetable seeds I had were from several years ago when I had planted sweet peppers, so I threw those in. Then I went to the grocery store and bought a few veggies to eat; cucumber, zucchini, multiple colors of green peppers, oranges, and pears. Well, I salvaged some of those seeds, let them dry out a few days and then threw them into the soil; I didn't mark anything LOL just threw them in and sprinkled some more soil on top. Well, lots of various plants are now growing :) I even bought some green onions at the grocery and since they had roots on them I took a few and planted those as well; I'm proud to say they are growing VERY well and I've now taken numerous days of cuttings of the onion and the mint to add to soups for the last two weeks. I wanted to have plants that I could immediately harvest to add to soups each day b/c I'm trying to eat healthier and lighter. I have several flowering plants around the yard, Lantana and Roses, that draw pollinators like butterflies, hummingbirds, and especially bees - which are needed for productive gardening. I didn't see any flowering plants in your yard; what type have you planted? I look forward to your videos and I would enjoy seeing you harvest some plants and demonstrating how you use them in your cooking or foods; that would be very cool.
hi Erv, I found your channel searching for milk jug gardening and gardening on a hillside. We have a small house and pretty decent yard; about 7500sq feet. I tried the back to eden garden method a few years ago - the weeds really enjoyed that - so did the bunnies. Last year, I tried container gardening and it seemed the plant roots got burnt from the summer heat. Then our son got ill and we moved in with him to care for him. He passed away September 2019. This year, I started seeds in red cups and put them on my uncovered deck. they started doing well and then got all soggy from the spring rains. I have zinnias starting in a pot on my porch but the ones in the milk jug are twice as big. I'm in zone 6b in Pittsburgh PA so it looks like we might be in the same growing zone. I have some plants in containers and some in the ground using a bill board tarp with holes. I'm going to order some woven weave fabric tonight and put some more transplants in the ground when it come in. I still have cabbages, broccoli and brussel sprouts to put in the ground. Also, in some of my holes in the woven weave fabric, I think the seeds got washed away. I heard to start the seeds in toilet paper rolls to prevent this. Also, I'm gardening on a slight grade so the year I did the back to eden method, all my garden amendments got washed away, which was frustrating. It seems the woven weave fabric will work best for preventing that. I was going to order some burlap fabric to protect the containers from the heat. I also heard that card board will do that too. I created a channel for my church and my husband. youtube is really a nice way to share things. I'm glad you are getting all those subscribers. I'd like to make a youtube video just to document all my errors and mistakes so I don't repeat the process, LOL.
Hi Erv, I found you because TH-cam promoted your video about starting seeds in cut open jugs. I'm 67 and I've been gardening off and on since I was 10 and I've never seen that done. So I subbed to see what other interesting tricks you have up your sleeve. I'm in Nova Scotia and our weather/climate is almost identical to Maine. (Btw, I don't think even TH-cam has any idea why they suddenly promote an old video out of the blue like that.)

Yeah they promoted it, it's been ridiculously crazy. It kind of blew up, and my channel has grown significantly for no reason.
