personally think that its so hard to get an exact rating you could probably go with a golf style scoring system where you get -points based on how close you were and lowest score wins so you dont fail when you were so close
I sometimes feel like Meltzer loses sight of what professional wrestling is - it's not just a gymnastics routine. It's a sport that isn't a real sport, which means you get to focus on telling stories both in and out of the ring with larger than life characters, because you control the outcomes. The purpose of those stories is to evoke an emotional reaction from your audience. With that in mind, I don't understand for the life of me how that WM main event wasn't five stars, unless you're solely fixated on the athleticism and forget that athleticism is a means to an end. Not only was it the perfect end to a two year long story, even the run-ins functioned as little story cappers of their own, and the crowd went nuts for all of it. I watched streams of other people reacting to that main event yelling things like " I LOVE WRESTLING" in response, because it resonated so strongly with them. All of that still wasn't enough to earn a five star rating from Dave, lol. But a random very good TV match between Kyle Fletcher and Ospreay on Dynamite with no story or build whatsoever? Five stars, must watch. Even Bryan Alvarez gave Cody/Roman five stars, because he understands that the wrestling moves are only one component of the whole.
This was a lot of fun, but I think it would be a bit more suspenseful if you simply saw who could collectively get closest to Dave by adding up how much you missed by.
My only issue with Roman vs. Cody was that the Bloodline Rules didn't make any sense. It was just a no dq match. If they could have made the stipulation mean more, it would have been truly amazing.
Meltzer gave 6 AEW matches last year 5 star and higher ratings. WWE had two. Both on WrestleMania. Meltzer is highly biased to the point where dumbasses in AEW structure their show to pleasing him, including hiring the son of one of his friends. The same guys parroting this "ThE rAtInGs dOn'T MaTtEr!" are the same guys talking about how these star ratings and attendance don't matter. You're on crack if you don't see what's going on.
Hm, it's almost as if one person's old-school opinion on modern wrestling is deranged and/or just wrong. ...Now, am I talking about Vince or Dave here?
My ratings outside of the mysterio tag was in roughly the same ballpark as daves: Night 1: Becky v Rhea: ***3/4 Tag titles ladder: ***1/4 Rey/Andrade v Dominik/Santos: **1/4 Jimmy v Jey: * Damage CTRL v Naomi/Bianca/Jade: **1/4 Sami v Gunther: 4 stars Cody/Seth v Bloodline: 3 stars Night 2: Drew v Seth: 4 stars Pride v FT: *1/2 LA v AJ: ***3/4 Orton v KO v Paul: 4 stars Bayley v Iyo: ****3/4 Cody v Roman: 5 stars
I swear to y’all I was thinking the same thing. He legit had to have rated this out of spite. NXT Takeover NY had so many run in and he gave that match a 5.25. Osperay vs Fletcher was just a regular match on TV with zero build but excellent in-right quality and it got a 5. But quite possibly the biggest match of this generation, with this much hype that had excellent in-ring work, story, crowd investment, and ending and it got a 4.75? How are you gonna say it’s a 5 star match and then in the same breath say 4.75.
Wait a sec There’s a door behind Larson, but there’s also a shelf tilted towards the door side, and also lining naturally with the wall but It’s mushed with the door in one illusion. I’m confused What is going on?
I know im the minority, but I liked the Jimmy/Jey match. It was no Bret/Owen, but it was a different story. That match was Owen trying to prove he's the better WRESTLER. This was brothers FIGHTING for 5 min before they went to false finishes. And I have no problem with the heel begging off spot. If it was a normal heel, it hurts Jey. But its his TWIN BROTHER, who DID stand up to Roman for him many times before he turned on him. And Jey made him pay for using his babyface love for his brother against him. It wasn't a 5* classic, but I felt it was what it needed to be (couldn't be no NQ with that main event), and it was a GOOD 3-star match
Cody v Roman was a 5 star match for the entertainment, storyline tie in's and surprises, probably not for the wrestling itself but it's a 5 in most peoples eyes if ratings actually mattered. Maybe Stone Cold was needed after all lol
Sorry, I loved last year’s WrestleMania and felt it was 4 1/2 stars. This year’s Main Event was CLEARLY 5 stars and sorry but when you CRY when the “story finishes”, you can’t give it anything less then 5.
I personally think this is the best match I have ever watched. It defines pro wrestling. I watched the Kenny vs. Okada match. I get that he’s insanely biased, but if we’re judging by his scale, this match enters the 6 star category.
I always respect Dave's opinion but he's wrong about that Lashley+SP/Final Testament match. That was 3-3.5 stars. It was better than Rey+Andrade/Santos+Dom from night 1.
No wonder the Game of Games calls him fat John Cena, with that huge DONUT Steve here just ate! Ouch! Katra is not aligned this day for Steve Here! Can And Larson best him? He just needs 1 correct answer! And he did it! And Larson wins! Superior Friendo identified.

Haven’t even started and I’m gonna guess… no 5 stars. But this next AEW PPV is gonna have 6-7 stars per match. Because he’s the least objective journalist in wrestling.
Had to fast forward through most of the matches I don’t think I was surprised by anything and each match dragged on especially cody and Roman best parts had nothing to do with the match for me cena rock undertaker and codys celebration that was the best part of the 2 day spectacle it’s just a shame how fickle fans are with chasing belts then feeling different after the big win but hey yes movement 2.0 and everything mirroring rock cena just didn’t feel anything like wrestlemania 30 it just felt relieving the story is finally over
I love how worked up people get over Dave's ratings... they're his opinion folks. Nothing more. If he says blue is his favorite color are you gonna lose your shit screaming everyone knows red is better? And it's all subjective. My opinion: story is story. Match is match. Hulk vs Andre was the biggest drawing match at Mania 3 with the biggest story, but good luck convincing me they had a better WRESTLING MATCH than Savage and Steamboat. VERY unpopular opinion here - Roman and Cody had a hell of a spectacle with a big story... BUT THE MATCH WAS THE DRIZZLING SHITS! Just a crazy cartoon clusterfuck full of run-ins! I give it ONE STAR, only cuz it was okay up until the screwy nonsense! Now lose your shit over that rating!
@@pinealdreams1064 See, there's your issue - if someone disagrees they must just be being edgy! No sir, it's just my opinion. Whatever amount of stars I'd have given it, it burned them all away with the run-ins. I like blue. Am I being edgy for not saying red? :D

Five stars, must watch. Even Bryan Alvarez gave Cody/Roman five stars, because he understands that the wrestling moves are only one component of the whole.
16:25 i think it was in a corner and he bit his forhead? I only remember because my girlfriend said "oh my God!"
You're on crack if you don't see what's going on.
one issue with Dave's rating for the usos match
he gives the bucks 5 stars for the same shit lol
Hm, it's almost as if one person's old-school opinion on modern wrestling is deranged and/or just wrong.
...Now, am I talking about Vince or Dave here?
Am I the only one who thinks Bianca hair whip should be a DQ because it's like a weapon
It's a grey area tbh because it's her hair. Kinda reminds me of Luger and his steel plate forearm.
It’s technically part of her body though, and using a body part isn’t dq
My ratings outside of the mysterio tag was in roughly the same ballpark as daves:
Night 1:
Becky v Rhea: ***3/4
Tag titles ladder: ***1/4
Rey/Andrade v Dominik/Santos: **1/4
Jimmy v Jey: *
Damage CTRL v Naomi/Bianca/Jade: **1/4
Sami v Gunther: 4 stars
Cody/Seth v Bloodline: 3 stars
Night 2:
Drew v Seth: 4 stars
Pride v FT: *1/2
LA v AJ: ***3/4
Orton v KO v Paul: 4 stars
Bayley v Iyo: ****3/4
Cody v Roman: 5 stars
I'll never understand why some ppl care about those "ratings". Lol...I mean these guys have an entire show devoted to it, but whatevs.
I think at this point you want your Cotra to be as far away from Dave's as possible.
Dave just operates out of spite right now. He’s the ultimate contrarian or at worst… an AEW employee
Perfect comment 😅
I swear to y’all I was thinking the same thing. He legit had to have rated this out of spite. NXT Takeover NY had so many run in and he gave that match a 5.25. Osperay vs Fletcher was just a regular match on TV with zero build but excellent in-right quality and it got a 5. But quite possibly the biggest match of this generation, with this much hype that had excellent in-ring work, story, crowd investment, and ending and it got a 4.75? How are you gonna say it’s a 5 star match and then in the same breath say 4.75.
Wait a sec
There’s a door behind Larson, but there’s also a shelf tilted towards the door side, and also lining naturally with the wall but It’s mushed with the door in one illusion. I’m confused
What is going on?
Out of all the observers of wresting, these guys are my favourite
If Rhea and Becky is 4.25 than Io and Bayley needs to be 5+⭐️
My ratings for night 2 are all within a quarter of Dave's scores. My katras are aligned with his, but I dont know if that makes me all that happy TBH.
Yeah, you should probably reevaluate everything you know about life just to be safe.
Dave casually admitting he doesn't watch Stardom with that Bayley/Iyo review. lol
I have been waiting for this one. 🤣
Meanwhile is 60-year-old sting and his farewell match gets a 4.75 because Darby decides to throw himself through glass tables
It was well deserving
Dave meltzer just showed us that reviews are subjective
David is just a fan we all can rate matches I’ve been watching for 35 years 😅he has job
Feels like mania XL happened last year
I know im the minority, but I liked the Jimmy/Jey match.
Yeah Knight was biting aj in the corner half way through the match
I'm pretty sure old Dave is starting to show signs of Alzheimers.
Its like his opinion man
Iyo and Bayley deserved 5 stars. Meltzer is becoming more and more of a hack
This is straight facts
LMFAO NO, it 1.5 stars tops the match was horrible.
Those....other guys....finally got there.
I could seriously make the argument that Roman versus Cody is the greatest match in WWE history
Who observes the wrestling observers?
Why do people still take Meltzer seriously?! Smh. Some people just love giving him clout whether it’s positive or negative !
that's the point. We should stop giving promotion to this goofy ass biased 🤡
Step aside David v Goliath, Cody v Roman is now the biggest match in the history of mankind.
Oh boy, a lot of people are upset about those... OTHER GUYS' opinions. It's okay to disagree on how good matches are people.
One thing we can all agree on though, is that those... OTHER GUYS wait WAY too long to give their star ratings 😉. I want HOT, FRESH star ratings. I gotta warm these ones back up in the microwave. It's just not the same...
Dave is so petty he refuses to ever give WWE a 5star meanwhile random match on a rampage for AEW 6 1/2 stars (only higher if in Tokyo Dome)
A high star rating for women? It truly is a new era
That Lashley match was terrible, Dave nailed that rating
Hey Friendos E-drone here, and E-drone.
Grow up kid
Haven’t even started and I’m gonna guess… no 5 stars. But this next AEW PPV is gonna have 6-7 stars per match. Because he’s the least objective journalist in wrestling.
Had to fast forward through most of the matches I don’t think I was surprised by anything and each match dragged on especially cody and Roman best parts had nothing to do with the match for me cena rock undertaker and codys celebration that was the best part of the 2 day spectacle it’s just a shame how fickle fans are with chasing belts then feeling different after the big win but hey yes movement 2.0 and everything mirroring rock cena just didn’t feel anything like wrestlemania 30 it just felt relieving the story is finally over
Thee guys 😂
Does Dave no longer hate women?
hmm i feel no 5 stars for Dave Meltzer like AEW more... I write before i see the video, i hope i am wrong :)
**doesn't say a single thing about the match, positive or negative**
**1¾ stars**
What in the actual fuck
0 for 7!!! Steve aint the other guys yet
Dave jumping ships then
Giving the 6 woman tag 2 stars says more than he realises and its not good for dave
It’s all just for fun my dude
@@FriendoClubTV Absolutely. Just giving my take!
You're just being edgy for the sake of being edgy. Even without the run-ins it was at least a four star match until the 20 minute mark.
@@pinealdreams1064 See, there's your issue - if someone disagrees they must just be being edgy!
No sir, it's just my opinion. Whatever amount of stars I'd have given it, it burned them all away with the run-ins.
I like blue. Am I being edgy for not saying red? :D
@@ryancorrigan4149no, you just came here for attention with your 89 iq
The highest rated match for me all Wrestlemania weekend would be Ripley/Lynch and it might not even be a 3 star match. Meltzer and I see wrestling completely differently, most of the time.
i mean nobody takes metlzer seriously right???
No, I just think he's ratings are garbage
roman vs cody was 5 stars to me idc
Dave 'A Goof' Meltzer
Man is that old fraud biased..
So,no 5 stars matches from wrestlemania this year then?If so,then last year's one was bigger than this years.
I understand not giving Cody and Roman 5, the cross Rhodes is still an overrated/bad finisher and just looks goofy
People who take star ratings seriously need to go outside
is the woman tax over??
Steve reads the comments.
That 4.75 is why I stopped subscribing to WON. Dave is biased and pretends not to favor certain match types over others.
