I can relate to this on a deep emotional level. Evangelion is possibly the greatest anime I have ever watched. It made me think about myself in ways I couldn’t/didn’t do before. It truly is a beautiful work of fiction, and although this anime isn’t for everybody, it was definitely a perfect fit for me
I completely relate to these sentiments. It truly has changed my life and I’m grateful for it. I blows my mind that it took me until age 34 to see all this but it makes sense; I don’t think younger me could’ve handled it the same way. Plus at this point, I’ve had loves and losses and existential crises and spiritual trials, so this all came at the right time and I couldn’t be more grateful. One of the best pieces of fiction, ever.
@Paul Gonzalez This is true. Evangelion is a different experience at different times in your life. It truly is such a wonderful piece of fiction. I’m so happy I stumbled upon it, I would never have wanted it different.
To be pedantic, that YTP didn't use Thanatos' orchestral version but a track called "Asuka's Death" that was intended to go into The End of Evangelion but was replaced with Munashiki Nagare.
Imo, the trio of the EVA pilots had it easy for the most part, until their lives were put to the test. In that, saving humanity, doesn't go without saying it's going to be stressful.
While listening to this song, I imagine a single flower being planted at the edge of a cliff, with a glittering ocean reflecting the moonlight. As time passes, this flower slowly decays. Winter comes by, the flower dies, but then spring returns, and once again the flower sprouts from the ground. Seasons passes, years passes, as the flower blooms, so does it began to decay. A repeated circle of rebirth and death. You wonder why it is so persistent on returning each spring, only to be destroyed in the winter. This endless cycles which seems meaningless, suddenly becomes so beautiful. This song perfectly represents the meaningless continuation of birth and death, but although meaningless, it is at the same time…beautiful.
this just appeared in my recommended and well rn i don’t feel particularly too enthusiastic about whats going on. however this sounds like although things seem a bit down and bad rn, it’s going to be okay and i will be okay. the good will come, i have to keep my head up high
Absolutely stunning. Edit: Just read the lyrics for the first time ever, and the first verse pretty much perfectly sums up the ego death I underwent after watching EoE for the first time. “Now it's time, I fear to tell I've been holding it back so long But something strange deep inside Of me is happening I feel unlike I've ever felt And it's making me scared That I may not be What I think I am.” Wow. Perfectly encapsulates what I was feeling as I cried myself to sleep for 2 hours that night. I’m fully convinced that no movie will ever be able to flawlessly and esoterically covey what depression is really like to the extent Anno was able to in EoE. Takes one to know one.
"'Night, Mama Luigi...! *coughs*" *The corpse has become bloated* "It's all Link's fault!" "Hey Zelda, I just want to say... it sure is boring without you!"
Bless you for this video, one of the most beautiful videos I've seen for a long time. Everytime my memories of Evangelion became distant, something, somehow manages to make me recall the show and my experiences with the show and fills me with the strongest of emotions.
This is amazing music, the best thing I've heard is like a Mozart classic but only anime,it's beautiful. The beginning is especially fascinating.I’m currently reading the manga one anime at a time, and the last chapters are sad and a little depressing, and this song fits the chapters of this manga more than ever.
Thanatos I guess was just a cool sounding name to give to a piece like this. The piece is very melancholy. I guess a lot of the Eva series is to do with death if you think about it. Death of someone’s ego. Death of someone’s soul. Death of someone’s body. Death of physical restraints/individual identity and the conglomeration of all souls. All of these things can be seen happening to different characters at various points in the series.
how is death negative? it is a natural part of life. not in the sense of death as in losing your body, but ceasing to remain or exist in a state. everything dies, the stars, planets, love and so on and so forth. we just have to accept it because without death we have nothing to push us to live life to our fullest.
“The fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth”
Thats such a cool quote
"Nothing comes from death"
Thanatos truly is the sound of the universe. More than beauty. I love Evangelion. It has given me more emotions than I could have wished for.

I wish Evangelion wasnt this Episodic and characters not this generic. Sure they were sometimes deep, but their personality was completly stereo type.

To some people, pain and sorrow is more comforting than pleasure or joy. Shinji Ikari was one such person.
Очень напоминает какое-нибудь произведение Эннио Морриконе из фильма "Однажды в Америке". Очень схожее звучание

It sounds so much like Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts 2 i fucking love KH and EVa

Why thanatos theme is so beautiful. Thanatos is a negative thing I don't understand. Someone can explain?
If you mean the meaning of the word, Thanatos is the Greek god of Death.
