“Kodoku (孤独)” means loneliness or sense of isolation in Japanese.
What the robots talked about is that the human protagonist fainted or died because he moved his body too much and too sudden after the long period under comatose state (why he collapsed was not because he's electrocuted but because his body refused to function any further).
The robots are in fact former humans who transplanted their brains to mechanical body, and in the end they state, “is it really necessary to keep the body of fresh?”, thus emphasizing protagonist's "loneliness" and "isolation" as a human in fresh body.

I remembered the Kiwi animation cause I watched it when I was younger. I also showed it to family for some reason. I won't lie, I'm surprised I'm not traumatized by it.
Nicktoons Animated Film Festival. I was a kid when I first saw it during this event and I still remember how sad I felt afterwards.

I think one of the scarring animations I’ve seen was a simpsons fanmade couch gag of them getting killed by home invaders in claymation. Just the idea of a home invasion and seeing a family get murdered was enough for me to never see that again.

HOLY SHIT! Haven’t seen Haunt in probably 10 years. Absolutely the creepiest video I’ve seen. Gave me nightmares for months. My lingering fear of being alone in the dark stems solely from this video.

Probably one of my favourites that has come around recently was "Don't Get Your Hopes Up" by "I can't sleep". Something about the art style evokes a feeling of early Newgrounds animation alongside the forced low quality. Would recommend as a whole alongside the other videos of that channel.

as someone who used to be very into andywilson, getting into him because of the overlap of pilotredsun fans, it's very weird to me to see his animations being treated in a more serious sense and being analyzed from a horror perspective. i think most actual fans of those kinds of animators are in it for the absurbist humor and the exploration of unconventional animation.

The first video shown of The Raven became something of a meme in our school some years back. One classmate could actually recite the whole thing from memory.
Why? I have no idea. It was funny too, also for a reason that I don't know or understand.
Oh I remembered the Pumpkin World game. I watched a TH-camr played this years ago. And I gotta say, I thought the game was funny and weird.
I also remembered my friend showing me the "North America" animation and... I was confused as to what was going on in the video XD

There were a lot of animations I remember seeing as a kid (that I probably shouldn't have been seeing) that stuck with me many years later. The first one being Chainsaw Maid and the other was Behind Closed Doors. That one still sticks to me to this day and it's one of my favorite animations. I highly recommend them, although I'd be careful with Behind Closed Doors since that covers subjects like abuse and Chainsaw Maid is fairly graphic.

I think the raven represents the feminine aspect of humanity, it nurtures the crow, which is a metaphor for one of a number of things, for example it could represent a parasitic energy, person or group of people, and in return the parasite exploits this instinct, and eventually when the sustenance no longer satisfies because it has stripped the land of everything, it "punishes the raven, but she knows it not." The man on the "swing" however, represents the masculine aspect of humanity, that would destroy the crow, either preventing or avenging its actions. Bound, restrained and choking. Then the crow goes too far and kills the raven, so the man unbinds himself and goes off to (presumably) dispose of the crow.
Cool video, the animations of the animators were creepy but still beautiful.

That rabbit cartoon is really charming. It's only kinda weird from if you look at the subtext. I wouldn't say it's creepy in any sense.

The "North America" one makes me sad, especially the line "he hasn't hurt you yet" because that's what the police/911 always say when you call for help and they refuse. I have a friend who loves the cartoon and thinks it's a good message. It is NOT. When I lived in [a dangerous city I'm not going to name], I had a lot of break-ins and witnessed shootings outside of my apartment. Every time I hid in my closet and called 911 to report the intruders in my apartment, the 911 operators always said the same thing, "ma'am, we can't do anything if he hasn't hurt you yet. Call us back after he's hurt you, and we'll send somebody." The song shows exactly that. That's probably why it's called "North America", because that's how it is to live here. I don't know anything about Canada, but that's how it is in the US. NO ONE CARES when you are in danger. And NO ONE WILL HELP prevent that danger. We are completely alone and powerless when we are in danger of being attacked, r-ped, killed, etc. No one will help us until AFTER the attack, r-pe, murder, etc. have been completed, when it is too late. The kid in the song couldn't even trust his own dad to keep him safe, and the dad released the deadly creature out into the world to hurt other people.
in the third one you can hear one of the pumpkins saying give me the crack pipe, it actually says it in the subtitles of the video

My culture has a story similar in meaning to the raven, we have a trickster, he's also our cultural hero, he's like the one we descend from. He is special, he has powers and can shape shift and stuff
The story is that we were created, and he wanted to give us a gift, so he gave us maple trees. But the original maple trees ran with thick sweet syrup, so you could eat it right out of the tree, and that's what people started to do.
Eventually, it got to the point that everyone was just lying around all day, drinking straight out of the trees. They got really obese and because they weren't talking or interacting, they became lazy in their bodies and minds.
When the trickster returned from wherever he would go, he was able to travel in noncorporeal fashion, his grandmother is grandmother Moon and his mother is sky woman. He saw what people had done with his gift. He wasn't happy they were abusing it.
So, he grabbed big birch bark buckets and filled them up with lake water, and then he poured the buckets all over the trees. As soon as the water hit them, the syrup was diluted, and the trees ran with maple water.
He told people that their integrity, humility, kindness, cheerfulness, togetherness, gratitude, and other good qualities are earned through hard work. We were better for it. No complacency, no sloth, no gluttony.
This was such an important cultural teaching that when colonizers came, they actually wrote in their journals about being baffled by the maple harvest, they couldn't understand the joy and laughter that was shared during grueling labour.
They record vague explanations not in line with what I just told you and were constantly trying to make things easier so they could sit around, and didn't like being told that was a path of destruction, especially by "uncivilized savages". Lol. Great call guys.
I think the lesson, that being so lazy and complacent that you permit yourself to enter the position of a hatchling, completely reliant upon an outside force that you hold no control over, leads to you being incapable of sustaining yourself, and you perish or survive at their disposal.
And I think that dual meaning does exist, because it's the same premise, it's just the motivation of the raven that changes.
If the raven is a malevolent power seeking to subdue and control you, like say the dumbing down of the US population by a combined effort that stretches from school budget cuts to media misinformation, then becoming the crow hatchling means you are totally and completely within their thrall, and are so conditioned that you open your mouth like a baby bird at the trigger.
If you look at it as the raven being benevolent, then it becomes about the Earth sustaining us, like we're the offspring. The Earth can harm and kill us, but not in a malicious way, like a mother bird could kill a hatchling.
Both entail the crows willingly giving up their power and becoming completely defenseless and incapable of even feeding themselves.
And both entail a sort of rejection, whether that's of the brainwashing, like a lashing out of a small contingent who do not want to participate because they see the truth, or abusing and destroying the Earth despite it creating us and giving us life.
That's the great thing about art. There is no wrong answer. If you see something other than the two I said, that's also correct, it matters more what you get out of the experience in terms of mental, emotional, spiritual growth.

There's also a sequel to story from north America called story from south America. It's a lot darker and is in full color. The animation is a bit lacking. I'm not actually sure if they're by the same people.
I was never really scared of A Story from North America
I feel like one to mention in the next video should be this old animation from a soviet era Estonia, it's called "Suur Toll"("Toll the great" in english) it's seen as scary mainly due to the abstract artstyle(done by an Estonian artist known as Juri Arrak) and its soundtrack, which consists of horns, drums, and eerie chanting, i can put a link below since this animation is a personal favorite of mine:

On March 6, 2011, Antony Fracentio was admitted to the infirmary at the Austin State Hospital for catatonic behavior after allegedly attending a video called "Bowwow Sad Toy Dogs". Three days later, he committed suicide. According to his friend, he had seen this video on TH-cam about a week before he was admitted to the hospital.
His mother said that he had left fifty messages in his electronic secretary which consisted entirely of the words "bowwowwowowowow". It was also discovered that he had killed his puppy the day before he was admitted to the hospital. When he committed suicide, he cut off his wrists and wrote "bowwowowow" on all the walls of the house, and immediately, he committed suicide. It is not known whether or not the video is still hosted on TH-cam.
