The last time I heard DSB was from 2 guys who have been SK 35 years or more :)
I never expected it to make a comeback, especially for this kind of price. Amazing.
Thanks very much for that, I however would prefer to have a pole so I don't have to hold the beam up. I lift things all day at work, last thing I want to do in my fun time is lift things :)
Looks like autumn has arrived in down under. ;-) Thanks for the video, always a pleasure! Vy 73 de Peter (DK7IH)
I have over 20 good quality commercial handhelds (Moto, Kenwood, etc, yes I am a sicko) and a couple Yaesus but am still sometimes bitten by the cheap Chinese radio bug- I've got one of these coming in the mail and am excited to have a cheap sideband capable portable. My wallet appreciates it as well.
Great video. Hopefully 2m and 70 SSB can be revived with this mod to such a cheap radio. 2m/70m is pretty dead where I am. Do you have a video for the tape measure 3 ele beam? Just wondering about what kind of matching arrangement you have used. Cheers!
Uses a hairpin match. More: th-cam.com/video/EmptXHOSKFY/w-d-xo.html
There is an option in the IJV firmware to switch on a pre amplifier. Not sure if it will work on VHF. "Activates the filter change circuit for frequencies after 240 MHz and sets the radio chip to a +9dB increase in reception. Similar to a preamplifier, to be used in exceptional cases of low signal because it can cause distortion in listening, switch it off when not needed."
I think it's intended for satellite operation. Would normally only be useful in a rural area due to RF overload being an issue with these sets.
Very cool. So do you think you could get better range between two HTs in DSB mode vs FM? My guess is that you could get a bit farther due to the lower noise floor with the sidebands.
Not sure. Maybe in a country area. In an urban area a good band pass filter would really help given these radio's front ends. But CW to CW would definitely be further!
Hi Peter, the firmware link does not appear to work.
McAfee tags it for a start as dangerous, then a 404 error.
Others and I have ignored it and it works.
If you're paying for any kind of "anti-virus" product you're being scammed.
@@vk3ye So did I and it didn't.
McAfee is dangerous.
Did the charger have a au plug on it ?
Yes (via adapter)
Cut off and replace 👍
Hello from VK6MRG
How do you enable tx on ssb. It's disabled for me
Maybe go into the menu setting and check your tx is enabled?
Hi Peter, yes I have checked and it appears to be enabled, still no transmitting.
Is it actually real 2 meter SSB?
No. But people you contact can't tell the difference.
Wonder what you could do with say a lightweight 5 element antenna on a 6m sturdy pole
MNI THANK , VERY NICE!!! de US4ET Victor.73!!!! CUL.
