One of my favorite films and one of the best ensemble casts of all time--watch out Oceans 11! The Scrabble scene is just magic with the combination of the score, lighting, camera angles, dialog, and then the big reveal.
I love this whole scene, but the 10 seconds between 1:48 and 1:58 are just perfection. - 1:48 Redford slides into frame with an audible scrape of his shoes - 1:49 James Earl Jones' face strikes the perfect balance between annoyed and amused - 1:51 The two agents cracking up, with just enough subtlety - 1:58 NO! and Redford's slightly mugging reaction
I don’t know this for certain, but I am convinced 1:58 was the first and only take of that shot. Redford is reacting in real time to a full-force James Earl moment that he wasn’t expecting. Rest in Power, Mr. Jones.

I finished the movie this afternoon and I loved these last few minutes. I was laughing seeing James Earl Jones having to work off of this great group of actors.

This is a profound movie that is underrated cuz it's so damn entertaining. Something about this scene always chokes me up. The bad guy gets away and the heroes escape with a pardon and a few hundred grand in goofy vacation prizes. Screaming for a sequel!

I see admiral James Greer from the Jack Ryan movies talking with Robert Redford and his team. Ironic because this film sneakers came out the same year as patriot games and had James Horner music like this film.

When this movie was made Republicans have been in office for 10 years and the country was in bad shape. The GOP were definitely not synonymous with good will. right after the movie came out, Clinton won & things got better. Until 2000.

Brilliant film by Phil Alden Robinson he got three brilliant actors in it they are Sidney poitier Robert Redford Ben Kingsley and a great supporting cast as well it was great to see James earl Jones in the end of the movie
@@Tigerman1138 At the time, after the Reagan assasination attempt and also in Olympus has Fallen, the Uzi was considered the sub machine gun of choice for lots of government agencies (like the Tommy gun was for the G-men during Prohibition) due to it being portable and actually very reliable. Carl mistaking it for an Uzi is likely a pop reference and shows he may not know guns but watched a lot of TV.
