  • A turning point in East-West relations, 30 years ago on 8 December 1987 US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed the INF Treaty in Washington D.C.
The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) eliminated nuclear and conventional short (500-1000 kms) and intermediate range (620-3420 kms) missiles and their launchers. This was a huge step toward a new era. The Treaty came into force on 1 June 1988.
