@trey8272..i miss these guys music not the same without Chris and Neil ❤em too bits.. Especially Chris 😢💔.. ❤To go to a concert but suffer badly with epilepsy 😢
What some younger folks dont understand about the 80's is that it wasn't all glitz, glamour and excess...There was also a pervasive subconcious melancholy, in that we knew these times wouldnt last forever, because we were losing our "collective innocence" on many levels ...This song encapsulates that sentiment entirely, and instantly transports me back to those days... and I smile..
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe thank you for giving us music that had meaning and holds as much value as gold! As an American citizen at an age of 51, today's music is horrific. The music of yesteryear will always be treasured from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70, and 80s. Thank you again!!!
There are a lot of songs that will remain classic forever 🙂 All of them were released between the 60's and 80's (maybe the early-90's). Popular music has been on a steep slide since the nem millennium 🤔
The 80s had a lion's share of fabulous music and this song is certainly a timeless classic. I have been Blessed with a great life that includes a vast array of fabulous music, fabulous friends & family, fabulous memories and I am proud to be an American Veteran. Happy New Year 2024 to everyone.
I was a small kid at the end of 1980s in Russia and synth pop mostly meant music from Eastern Germany, Italy and Sweden. British bands were something very chic and classy and more difficult to get a recording of. I still feel this mood of that time. It is a mezmerising combination of both joy, clubbing , dancing and some shade of melancholy.
Gosh I remember the first time I heard this. Was sitting on the steps having a smoke and thought, who is this, what a great song. I mean, he still sounds the same!
Perhaps the most underrated duo of all time. Their ability to make amazing music and still produce stellar live shows some 35+ years later is mind boggling.
Really a great duo, but I'm not sure if they are underrated: They sold 100 million records and are for critics among the most highly regarded pop groups since the 80s. Not many groups achieve this kind of critical/commercial success. However, it's still a crime that they never won a Grammy Award.
This song brings back so many great memories of when it was released in the 80s. Makes me sad I can't go back and still be there. Anyone else feel the same?
Pet Shop Boys understood that exchanging their 80s synth and drum machine sounds with new sounds does not help the song in any way!! That they keep it as original as possible is a great gift for their listeners. Many other artists make a Techno or unplugged version out of their hits (see Madonna etc.) just because they don‘t want to hear the original anymore. For the price that it totally kills the soul and mood of the song.
I agree. But there's exceptions. Sometimes sticking to the original isn't necessarily a must. Your examples are good. But my best example is Swing Out Sister, who've built a strong cult following built on alternate, If I may, a more euro-sophisticated approach to their songs, and in doing so have made tremendously appealing versions that fit their long time fans as adults today. "Breakout" is a perfect example of what I mean.
They are coming to Toronto in September with New Order and my wife, my son and I are going. I can't wait. Haven't been to a concert for so long. I'm 66 now and I loved all this music.
It is a social critique that exposes the poverty, hopelessness and lack of opportunities that exist in cities. The song also talks about the difficulty of finding love and connection in a world where people are divided by social class.
I was born in 1961 went through glam rock punk mods soul funk and etc etc! I miss those days ❤ I miss those days! RIP to all those artists who give me those joy and dancing and song
I was 22 when I heard pet shop boys, I grew up with them, they were the most wonderful years of my life, there will never be another generation of musicians like them, the 80s and 90s the best
Added lyrics: You can find a place, but no one knows When money talks and streets are gold Someone stands in every door, If they speed they break the law. Ask a question, blank faces, Read the news and turn the pages. Watch them play a different game... ...and no one knows your name. Love it when artists freshen up lyrics for live shows, gives them something new to sing other than repeating the same stuff with every performance. Far as I’m concerned, this is London’s urban anthem. 🕺🕺🙌🏼🙌🏼👌🏼👌🏼🚌🚇🚦💰
Jack Mellor Listen to the original version of this song, produced by Bobby O., you’ll find even more “new” lyrics. It’s a great version and I hope you’ll love it too.
One of my all time favorites...REALLY takes me back. No offense to the dancers, but I'm totally strolling through London whenever I hear this song. The original video was so easy and laid back ...one of the best!
Love, love this video!! Brings back great memories of dancing to this song in the clubs in Europe in 1986. This was one of the biggest, hottest songs at the time. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. And he still sounds great! Bravo.
As. Married couple Ben watt and Tracey thorn never needed to do this comeback but here it is. I’m so glad it’s the best music I’ve heard in years and I’m sorry it can’t just be me ☺️😎
As good, no better, as the first time I heard. Foggy murky street scene in London shrouded in mystery and adventure. That’s what it evokes for me. And I’ve never even been to London. Timeless.

This is why I will never ever forget the 80's...such a magical time for music of all genre's but especially new wave/alternative
Absolutely agree!!! 👍👍👍
It was historical era and we were just lucky to live it
ditto - it brings me back to an exact moment, where this song was first heard....
Kevin Miller don’t for get the padded shoulder pads and girls with lots of hairspray ,with long side burned flared like wings.
What about new order & Duran Duran??

So nice to see them working and entertaining 👏
Incredible. Neil is 65 years old and sounds like he did 34 years ago.
Proof that if you take care of your body and your vocal cords right you won't lose your voice.
Simply sublime.
Meaning, not that good.

Edward, I am from Rio de Janeiro, 64 years old and agreed with you!
Hope I’d be still around then 😂😂😂
Uma obra prima nunca envelhece
Wow!!!👍🏻
A failure in 1984! Neil had the courage to "re-offer" the song in 1987! The PSB era had begun!
Young kids should listen to this REAL music.
Whilst I agree, I think the Pet Shop Boys used a lot of electronic music didn't they? Kind of what they were famous for?!
32 years and Pet Shop Boys still got it. Legends and classics never die. They live on forever.

What I find remarkable is that aside from his longtime bandmate on keys, he has young musicians backing him on this tour.
It’s because they’re forever cool, even in modern young sub cultures.
I'd find it more remarkable if they DIDN'T have young musicians backing them up.
P.S.B. always innovative and entertaining, effortlessly.
