- Nick Helleur is by his own admission, the Peter Pan of carp fishing, indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle of worldwide angling adventures and carp fishing discoveries.
His fishing life started from an early age after he moved to Harefield in the Colne Valley at the time England’s carp fishing mecca. Nick’s formative years saw him acquaint himself with some of the country’s most iconic waters including The Con’s, and Savay. This is where he rubbed shoulders with some of the leading anglers of the time, including Bill Quinlan and Rod Hutchinson.
The consequence of being banned from a prestigious club led to a change in his carp fishing philosophy, as he opted for a more solitary approach and resisted the allure of the country’s big fish circuit waters. Nick has also been a consultant for some of the industry’s biggest companies, including Shimano, Aqua and Korda.
While recording a film for Sticky Baits’ Reflections series in 2018, he landed the largest ever publicised carp from the river Thames, weighing 50lb 12oz. He has pioneered some of carp angling’s most commonly used methods, such as PVA stick fishing, and his appearances on films both domestically, and across Europe are always sure to captivate an audience.

Singly the best of these podcasts featuring a true angler who still does it on his own terms...holds my opinion on the whole scene as it stands now...not a clone...true to himself....brilliant stuff Nick Helleur....massive respect
Brutal, Honest, Charming, Engaging, Enlightening and Refreshing with a lot of uncomfortable Truths for many I suspect. Puts many things into perspective for us to reflect upon. Unfortunately, much will fall on deaf ears, with the masses continuing to absorb the latest trends handing their money over like sheep to the slaughter. Thankfully there are still people out there like Nick who may just influence one or two like minded people. Great Pod, many thanks
Couldn't have said better myself, namesake! How strange!! 👍🍻
@@aaacharters another Pete Everett, who fishes.... spot on 🙏👍😉
This has to be the best of the series, you really do need to get him back in to do a part 2. Absolute Ledgend.
refreshingly honest. Its true you don't need headphones for a podcast and you don't need to sharpen hooks... as long as the hook-point don't skate across your thumbnail, it's good
Never ever heard any of the so called professional anglers talk like this your a credit to the game and your brutal honesty is refreshing quickly become my favourite angler of the pile
Best thinking tackle podcast to be made ever !
This has been my favorite podcast yet! Nick hits so many nails on the head with what he says. Like he's in my brain shaking it telling me to wake up.
There is no limit to the amount of time that I could listen to this man speak. Thank you
Iv been into carp fishing on and off for the past 19 years and never been one to be interested in following the big stars as such but just loved fishing and working things out for myself. Only in recent years have I used media platforms such as TH-cam to watch things like these podcasts and they have been brilliant. Nick has been the best guest by far for me. He is such a character and I can relate certain experiences from my own life with him. Best podcast by far and I could listen for hours to Nick. Too work guys keep it up.
I don't normally listen to a full podcast, but I did with Nick's, brilliant, real and entertaining I found myself nodding and smiling a lot!!!!!!
Best podcast I've ever watched. The truth tells a thousand stories my favourite angler.
Hats off to Nick, what a great podcast. An honest view on all things with a bit of humour thrown in. Look forward to part 2……
This is my favourite podcast you've created so far!!! Such a legend and says it how it is!
Gotta respect Korda and co for making this happen
I cannot express how happy I am with these podcasts!
Best podcast i've ever listened too, what guy!
Absolutely loved listening to this podcast, it's the best one yet. Nick Hellier is a proper legend
I am in a shit place atm with my life and this is something I'm glad I have listened to this the mental health side is spot on cheers for ya honesty 👍
Keep ya head high mate, don't suffer in silence
@@shauno0806 thank you kindly sir I won't 👍 I have some good people round me 🙏
Don't suffer in silence fella. Don't know you from Adam but here if needed to chat...
@@shaneedmed488 that's the way mate, aslong as u have good people around u to keep u on the straight and narrow, everything else will fall into place, im also a suffering from depression and anxiety and don't have many people to talk to that can understand what Im go through hence why I fish lol but from One sufferer to another silence is your enemy I can assure u I've been down some dark paths myself through not communicating, always here if ya need a chat or drop me an add on Facebook
@@87davesaunders thank you chap fishing is getting me through and filming for my TH-cam channel taking my mind off things thanks again for your kind words 🙏
I am 62 and I have carp fish since I was 13, I have seen so many changes over the last 49 years, before I fished for carp, we fished for anything that swam. It was called doing your apprenticeship. An excellent podcast and what a great guy Nick is, many years ago I thought he was very arrogant, but as time passed I learnt just how passionate he is about life and Angling. Keep going my friend.
Hit the nail on the head there in regards to apprenticeship, now a days everything else seems like a pest to catch to the new aged anglers, you learn your watercraft and stepped up according
Very true Martin. I fished Long Life, The Cons, Fisheries and Harefield in the mid 'to late 70s and life was very different there then and the fishing seemed to be more of a laugh. I can certainly relate to hearing guys return from the pub and not make it to their swims.... sleeping in the bush they fell in! Cracking days.
What an absolute legend the main reason everyone starts Carp fishing
So happy that I am only 4 years in front of him everything he says is right about how carp fishing should be
Great to see you Nick
Thanks Guys for getting him in keep up the good work 🍺🎣
Brilliant loved every minute, refreshing to hear someone say it how it is & highlight how carp fishing has changed. Keep up the good fight nick 👌👍
Best podcast ever. This is an absolute breath of fresh air
The best pod cast by a country mile 😂😂 “no stickers on my buckets mush” 😂
Definitely one of the most genuine podcasts that has been filmed, followed Nick and Burts journey for a while now and always as honest as is comes, quality old school angler, just wish he would film more 👌 should of hsd Burt on the podcast 🐕
This must be the best podcast so far, just love life and go fishing
Best yet, please get him back could of listened for another 2hrs......
This man brought up some really interesting and important points on the sustainability of carp angling ,points that nearly all others anglers in his position seem very reluctant or scared to address.
Shame i had to sit through nearly 2 hours of contradictions to get to the good stuff though!
All jokes aside, why has nobody ever made a proper factual film aimed at educating anglers on how to handle large carp on the bank ? you can find 50,000 videos on roni rigs and pop ups or trying to sell you their latest unhooking mat but not 1 film from somebody knowledgable in carp anatomy about the stress a fish will go through on the bank ? how to handle large carp once their organs have been compressed from no longer being weightless in water, what is an appropriate time to have a large old carp on the bank for photos? how long should a fish be held in a retainer in summer ? does pouring a cup of water over a fish actually do anything useful etc etc etc .The fact there is only a tiny amount of this information availabable to new anglers highlights where we really are in carp angling and what the priorities of most companies and anglers are.
The BEST yet! Brilliant podcast. Had me in stitches listening to this whilst walking the dog! I think people wondered WTF I was laughing at 🤣🤣🤣
Another pod cast that could easily have been 4hours! Excellent! Enjoyed every second👍
LOVE IT! he’s like marmite love or hate him! abrasive but so funny and very charismatic! get through the surface bollocks bravado he’s a top bloke
@Dal J Oh 100% mate! he’s been there done it still doing it and got the T shirt. Great character!
He is so right about so many things and how he says it makes it even more funny
By far best podcast to date, what a guy!
Legend , so refreshing to hear someone who is so honest

Best one yet Says how it it is..no messing or arse kissing or copying todays big names...top man 👍👍👍👍👍
Well done to Nick, got 20mins into this podcast and had to turn it off. What an absolute tool.
"No stickers on my buckets mush" Would make a cracking sticker that one 😁😂
Get some made up. Ill buy 4 😂
They have been made , check out ''Butt slaps and stickers for carp equipment''
Have to watch this at least once a year. So much to relate to in my own life, nearly the same age and pretty much the same path except I was up north midlands. Really can't disagree with any of Nicks views on carp fishing and life in general.Top man! X
Hands down the best podcast on this channel! Closely followed by Simon Scott!
Another fantastic podcast. Nick, Frank Warwick and Pete Regan need regular slots on the Podcast they have loads to say leaving you with lots to think about. Gold dust!!!
Quality podcast. Nick is as straight as they come and love him for it. Take care.
“I don’t like talking about myself” two and a half hours later. 😂 Great podcast very straight shooter not enough people like that around. 👍🏻
I'm 35 minutes in and hasn't mentioned a fish!
🤣
"Bait boats, wtf, I might as well let you take my girlfriend to bed, and I'll just watch. Soul-less as Fxxk!" Priceless stuff from Nick
Then says hes just spent a grand on 1 haha
@@davidshaw442 and still called it soulless
Well, that was entertaining! Nick the Pest has certainly walked his own path, have to respect that. He experienced a very different world to ex-corporate me, but his views on today’s commercialised UK carp scene resonate. He is a very good angler, too, the stick has caught so many fish for so many people....... and he can describe the spirituality of so many quiet nights and dawns, where we are truly alone with nature❤️. Been fishing in the US for 15 years now, Nick is right, it’s wild and wide open. We’ll look out for him on DH!!!
I watched this again yesterday. Nick Helleur speaks so much sense about carp fishing. Especially regarding hook sharpening a little touch up yes but sharpening the hell out of it no. A real "marmite" character. I've been a carp angler for over 30 and like he said "carp fishing and anglers have changed so much, some good and some bad". I couldn't agree more.
Amongst the top in my opinion.
Even the beginning kidnap says it all. Then takes over the podcast. Class Angler aswell.
On a first listen Nick can sound up his own arse. But if you get past the brashness and listen to what he actually says, he does talk a lot of sense. Has a brain. Thinks things through. Puts it across in a relatable way. Very good angler.
Best of the best. Well done Korda. More like this please 🎣👍🏼
At last a proper angler that knows his stuff and doesn’t need to prove himself, his catches says it all 👍
I think i say this on every podcast but that was actually the best one so far!
Nice top carper another awesome podcast thanks Nick and team Korda
Please do a part 2. Brilliant podcast 👏
By far the best yet!
I fully agree about the floatation slings, bad weather with big winds coming at you on a huge water bashes them about massively. It's much better imho to use a big sack with a h-block and screw in heavy duty bank stick in a deep water spot chosen beforehand, even if it means donning chest waders in the dark. Star lights (mini glowsticks :) are very useful too I must add :)
You do what makes you happy..that's what its ALL ABOUT absolutely....
By far the best podcast by one of the best characters ever in carp fishing. Telling it like it is 👏👌
Brilliant podcast best one yet, total honesty from start to finish. Top bloke 👏🏻👏🏻
Don’t know how I missed this.
Brilliant.
1:15:00 onwards. Magical unicorn 😂😂 the haters won't understand this. Keep living wild and free nick doing what the fuck you want when you want. Best thing I ever did mate
Bloody love Nick what a lad!
One of the best ones yet.
This is definitely the best podcast so far. Pure class Nick. "I'm not a Fuking air traffic controller" 🤣
Best podcast yet!!! I love this bloke !!?
Can't say much more than. Just loved it and love Nick.
Sorry im sweating , ive just done a big fat line..
Hmmmm.....i did think same and his constant nose wiping....bit of a giveaway 🤣
@@trevorpritchard9715 totally had a bugle

Best podcast ever
The best one yet!!!!!!
Nick (the stick) helleur, this is the best podcast ever.
He's not the 'Stick', that's a different Nick (who lives in Thailand now)
Best podcast I've ever seen
Best one yet! Super enjoyed this one!👍🏻👍🏻
Such a brilliant, brilliant podcast,....take from it what you will but for me he absolutely nails it, not just fishing but his attitude and outlook on life. Do what makes you happy!!! And stay humble! And fish for enjoyment! fishing is being ruined what its evolving into...... Just fame hungry people that want to be all over social media and join the big pissing contest 💪💪💪
No bullshit, without a doubt how we should all live our lives, well done a great watch 👍
Best podcast your guys have done
Enjoyed this so much! Every angler should hear it, thanks for sharing your insights & experience with us, much appreciated!
Best one so far legend
What a breath of fresh air better than these ex footballers and rock stars best by far
Top bloke, I could listen to him all day! Great out look on ok I've aswell.
Wow . How refreshing . Honesty and real . Glad I listened 😊 the only trouble is he's ruined me . All that I saw before has come into focus and is real in my eyes . Though .. that's a good thing 😉 thanks nick
Best one yet! Love nick no bullshit says it how it is 👌🤜
Vass wader, beards and tatts with stickers on ya buckets 😂😂😂😂 This is literally carp fishing all over!
I don’t know if anyone knows but nicks from “ a different time “ 🤣
And, hes 50 next year.
From a different planet more like
What makes you say that 😂
I don't really watch these as carp fishing is fairly boring when it's relayed verbally. I have watched this 3 times since it came out. I love Nick. He is a force of nature and he transcended the normal chat and we got to see a bit of his character. One of those guys you'd love to meet, although I'm totally different.
He's right on the thames too... someone needs to be stocking that on the sly for the future.
"Sound a bit sterile dont we?"
"Yeah its Korda in Basildon" never change Nick
-
The best interview in the series by a mile.
Full of piss and wind and incoherent holier-than-thou preaching. These have been great in the main but korda have been far too indulgent of Nick here and that was just a rant.
'helleur'- than thou
Hes winding everyone up or hes a prick ....
If that is how you feel then you missed the point completely. His whole point was that you should concentrate on you and what you want to do. Enjoy your life because you only get one go. While I respect your opinion, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Nick and I am happy to know their are people who feel the same way as me. Don't let others tell you how to breathe, sleep, eat, think and feel. Live YOUR life. and let others live theirs. Don't deliberately offend or hurt anyone. That way, you will have fewer regrets when the end comes. And it will definitely come !
@@blue_by_name Bollocks, Mick. There was no point to miss. It's about interpretation. Don't infer that this was somehow above my head - you know nothing about me. He comes across as stuffed full of his own self importance and him constantly playing on his 'tricky individual' persona was tiresome. I get the feeling he possibly is a tricky character to deal with but he seems to want to play on it constantly.
@@kingkompany5908 Your comment just backs up my theory. If you think there was "no point to miss" then you clearly missed the point. As for knowing nothing about you, your reply taught me all I need to know. . . .
absolutely brilliant interview
Graet podcast. its true what he said about Germany, I passed my German fishing test last week (it was bloody hard) but I had to do it. to give you an idea I can fish a 23KM long stretch of river, and 14 lakes for 25Euro a year. A lake nearest to me has carp at 28KG maybe there is bigger in there but I have only scratched the surface. to see another carp angler here is very rare.
I can relate to nicks views big time same era great vlog guys as always
'Carp Brothels' 😂 great listening 🎧
Best podcast yet 👍
Don't normally watch these sort of things as I think they are proper boring.but my bro said to watch it and that is what fishing is about.realistic honest and self being.well done nick glad I watched it
Take note Korda, more like this!!!
One of my favourites yet
True honest bloke love his way of life
I can't work out if I love him or hate him 😂
Thats what makes him interesting
One of the best yet 👌
Excellent and few things that needed to be said
Get Kevin Ellis on! be a belter that!
you say that every month! is he your brother in law or something?
Loved it can relate to some of the things he was saying especially about the divorce my life has just started all over again and what a great feeling that is love the way you say it how it is 👍
the older nick gets the more i struggle to tell him and frank warren apart, top episode by the way
Frank Warren has the dent in his head and fish eyes
@@Shayflannel 😂 brilliant
Always keeping it real! love it boys!!!! 👌respect to all. This is what fishing really means to all just get the rods out and build good experiences lovely times✌️It’s all about the memories
#LEGEND need more people like him on here
simply fantastic, well done super NH
Brilliant one. What a unique voice in this crowded field. Stop interrupting him though. I really enjoyed listening to Nick and think he's a great character. However, as someone who is the same age but new to carp fishing (in the last year), as this went on I found myself feeling like there is nothing I can do of value and anything I do do is worthless in terms of carp fishing. I fish to enjoy myself, love the 'being there' as much as the catching and like to fish simple rigs despite being able to tie more complicated 'scaffolding' rigs too. So in many ways I feel like we're on the same page; but I just feel like I've been told off as any knowledge I've gained from watching the internet hasn't been hard won enough. Good on him for saying exactly what he thinks though.
Fuck what he says mate,go and enjoy yourself, get from your angling what YOU want from it
