i do. but you don't have to buy a plastic tree every year, do you? fake christmas trees usually last for about 15 years so that's 15+ trees saved and one tree can provide oxygen to 2 human beings for a year. i think it's safe to say that fake ones save the environment...
+Victoria Gaven How about a live tree. Then plant it when it gets too big, and start over. More work, but more rewarding. If you're near a national forest you can get a $5 permit staring late November. Plastic trees are part of the problem -- manufacturing, off-gassing, landfilling, make of oil, gross & ugly and, well, plastic.
What a senseless argument. It's not like they are going out into a naturally occurring forest and cutting down trees, Christmas Trees are farmed products just like corn or wheat. Secondly, most fake trees are made with PVC, witch is a non-biodegradable plastic that is extremely harmful to the environment. The latest figure done by the industry is that you would need to keep a fake tree for more than 25 years to compensate for all the harvest, growing, and transportation emissions that go into growing a real tree.
Imagine if the people who grow Christmas trees or the companies that manage forests for paper did not need those acres of trees because people stopped buying real Christmas trees or recycled 100% of their paper and raw pulp was no longer needed. Do you think they will preserve the forests out of the goodness of their hearts? Imagine the irony of those tracts being sold to developers because of the actions of well-meaning armchair environmentalists!
That guy was great!!!
That was very helpful to know that I'm taking the right steps in caring for my tree, just was hoping on more decorating ideas.
