    I'm not sure there is anything cooler to watch than an old combine. You're right they really make you appreciate what our grandparents did. My grandpa used to talk about his first combine it was a Massey Harris self propelled with no cab. Not sure what model. He said they had a really wet fall one year and he had to wait to harvest until the ground froze. He was shelling corn one night about -10 degrees with the wind blowing like crazy. He had his car in the field he left it running with the heater on full blast and every round when he stopped to unload he would jump in the car and try to warm up! When he finally got home grandma had to help him get his clothes off he was too frozen to do it himself. And they thought they had it good compared to doing it all by hand and with horses. Thanks for the video Tim

      Your welcome. Thankyou for that story I really enjoy hearing of farming stories and that was a great one. 👍.... they were some tough sobs back then they simply don't make em like that ant more. Thanks for watching Evan.

    We had 2 CII CS specials and an A2. I spent my teen years in the cab of those combines. One of the CIIs we put an adapter on the throat we modified and put a low profile G corn head on it. I tuned that combine up with a little faster gearing on the clean grain auger/elevator and long finger sieves. I ran it so just a little clean grain was in the return auger knowing it was maxed out. Nothing but clean grain in the bin and no blow over. Ran a field once that was perfect length, condition, and yield that one round was full bin. My hauler couldn't keep up that day. Never forget that day. It was all about being an "operator" and knowing the sound of the machine to make it sing!! Lol Dang loved those machines. Ran an L2 and L3 too in later years what beast they were in the day.

      I know just what you mean with the sound when they are full right they have a distinct song they sing fur sure 😆 I love my m2 last year I was able to keep up with 2 semis, the drivers were definitely impressed I didn't have them sitting at all. Lol

    That old combine is awesome. Looks like it’s working good. That’s nice the beans are yielding so good. I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get an old combine I wanna do a little of my own farming with some crops now that I have the funds from my job. Thanks for sharing.

      A man worth a plan 👏. Even if your patents don't let you get one they gotta be proud of you wanting to go that path. If you learn what your doing you could end up with some custom work in the future that my friend is good money.

    I grew up on a JD 45 with a Tenn foot head! No cab just a lot of dust especially when it came to doing barley🤣 We even did custom work and one year we did work for a guy whose barley was laying down so I did it all one way! Great footage👍🏼👍🏼

      I've never done barely but if it's anything lie soy dust or worse I understand. I look forward to the day I put the corn header on and go out into an easy crop.
      I did some what for the neighbor that about 20 acres was layed down like you said all one way definitely made for a long 20 acres. Then he had about 10 acres of corn that was the same way. I almost picked it with my grain table. But managed to get it through. I couldn't imagine picking with no cab. I've got alot of respect for the way you farmed I love hearing old farm stories like this too keep them coming mark and thank you for watching.

    Very Nice!!! Keep up the good work Never ran a CII, My Dad, Grandpa, and Uncle used to custom harvest with two of them, I didn't come along until they had L2s. We still have one of those CIIs, that grandpa used to use on about 40 acres of wheat every now and then. Those were the days! Thanks for bringing back the memories.

    Years ago I had a C11 Gleaner and loved that old girl and it did a great job of cutting and cleaning. With a 4x30 corn head I had 3 guys hopping to keep corn hauled away from it ! These are combines you truly run by feel from the rumble of the floor plate the vibrations in the back of the seat to the roar of the engine to the sing of the belts you knew what was going on from front to back of the machine. The best you could hope for was a nice cross wind to keep the dust away from you but if you got my luck there was no wind or it always seamed to have a tail wind ! LOL Bandit

    • @TimothyFluegel
      @TimothyFluegel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's really proud of that c11 he just bought an L2 and says he's not getting rid of the c11 lol, thankyou for sharing that Bandit! I enjoy hearing the old farming stories especially about the machines we still run on the farm. I'm the same way in my M2 there something about the sound of a full cylinder vibrating at your feet that is just music to my ears and the vibrations in the seat you hit that right on the nose!!

      @@TimothyFluegel A guy told me I was nuts for running a combine like that, He said if I felt or herd anything you described I'd shut it off because something is wrong ! I told him with the older combines thats how you ran them by feel and sound. I would have still been running Gleaners but after the dealer tried to screw me over because of bad new parts I sold the Gleaners and other AC stuff and went to JD combines and other equipment. If a dealer wont stand behind the parts he sells well I dont want any equipment he sells. If you want to really see something different I put an AC orange G 8x20" corn head on a JD 95 Corn Special combine ! They said it couldnt be done but I did it ! Bandit

The JD dealer (AgPro) there great to deal with and more than willing to help you out. The very last time I was at that Agco dealer I went in to ask about how fast an AC corn head is suppose to run at and was told real quick those old Orange heads are junk and I aint wasting my time to look anything up for them ! Junk the head buy a new one and I'll look it up. I had a few choice words to say before leaving and I told them ware they could stick the new head and I'll be sure to tell everyone just how helpful they were and just what I think of them ! All the technology and computerized harvest equipment of today still wont harvest like an old gleaner. Some will disagree until they are shut down for weeks waiting for a "technician". Open platform is better than a cab with no air. Another great video friend.

      That's just it Mike a combine is going to break down, especially for us we're not the payment types around here lol if rather by parts and fix my combine every year and be able to fix it and I still have less into it in 5 years of running it including buying it than just a down payment on a newer one would cost me. And same with my brother. And I'm sure you hit that on the nail the can on that c2 is pretty well worthless 😆

    Looks very similar to my early 70’s F, same size header. 13’ looks so small anymore compared to 35 - 40’ modern headers. I know my F had a Chevy straight 6 292 ci engine. We were Allis folks from way back but we had a POS Case 660 before going back to our AC dealer. Hated that Case! My Gleaner was a Caddilac compared to a Yugo as far as that Case was concerned.

    Aww yes C-ll first combine I drove 6-30 corn head first gear as fast it would go, put my foot on door frame to put in the separator, and stand on the clutch to stop. Had one of the first L combine with a Hydrostat transmission NO air , dust would be 1/3 inch thick on my right arm in a round, got a lot breaks though first few years 🤷‍♂️.
