- From Toys R Us To Ollie's Bargain Outlet - Store Tour! Winchester, VA. Enjoy a look at this old Toys R Us store which had closed in 2018. Not long after it closed I did a video here while it was completely abandoned. Nowadays Ollie's Bargain Outlet occupies the building. Ollie's is a discount department store that sells items at close-out prices. The aesthetics of Toys R Us remain. Enjoy the store tour!

Hotpoint brand of appliances was founded in 1911 in Ontario California. Ownership of the brand is now split between American company Whirlpool, which has the rights in Europe and the Chinese company Haier, which has the rights in the Americas through its purchase of GE Appliances in 2016. I remember seeing Hotpoint refrigerators in the 1950s when I was a little boy.

Hi Wallie! Great video. Ollie's did the same thing to the Toys R Us nearby me in Dublin Ohio. They use the old Cash register lines and there's still some old remnants of Toys R us there too. It's cool they kept that stuff.

The orginal Toys R Us was in Cherry Valley which is South of the East side of Rockford Illinois that became an Salvation Army thrift. Then they moved into Forest Plaza in Rockford where an AAA office, an Old Country Buffet, and an Media Play was and was there for an while till the Toys R Us chain went out of business. Then it was an place for an short while that sold close out and reduced price furniture after that it got remodeled and turned into an new location for Dick's Sporting Goods. The former Pottery Barn store in another shopping center was turned into Ollies Bargain Outlet.

I'm surprised you remembered Old County Buffet, it has been gone show long, but it was good.
Salvation Army did a good job on the old Toys R Us store.
What are your thoughts about Cherry Vale mall? Do you think its future is limited? Or will the Tilt entertainment center help it.

Ollie's is a pretty nice store; it's nice for people to have a store like this to shop at because of the lower prices on things.
That Hotpoint brand takes me back to my childhood, my parents had a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dishwasher and a fridge all from Hotpoint which they bought back in the '80s 🙂
Hotpoint's been around for years. I remember them.
They are a division of GE, along with Moffat. Now all those companies are owned by Haiar.

Hotpoint was a major appliance brand decades ago and was associated with Whirlpool, GE, and Haier. I’m guessing that the name is now licensed out, like so many other brands.

I love that Ollie’s likes to keep the look of former store it replaced. My local Ollie’s used to be a Children’s Palace, so it looks like a castle.
Oh man, my grandparents are from Winchester Va. I have a lot of family from there. We use to visit there every summer when I was a kid. Winchester, Front Royal etc.
Wallie, Hotpoint is a quite OLD brand. For many years they were "the cheaper brand" of General Electric Appliances.
The brand still survives in 2022, even as GEA was bought by Chinese appliance manufacturer Haier (their higher end stuff is made in the same GEA factories in Mexico GE used themselves, only their cheaper stuff is imported from China).
I've had those Tate's cookies, they are so good! I love Ollie's.

Time for me to visit my Ollie's
First time on your channel , was surprised to see Winchester VA. On your list. I lived there from 2000-2002 (including on September 11, 2001), until VDO (automotive supplier) closed.
If you went by the big hospital there, I lived very close to that. (I heard after I moved that they bought up the property and opened clinics there.)
You mentioned the Civil War history, and yes they take that and the Colonial/ Revolutionary War history very seriously. Hope you got to see the Stonewall Jackson house - not much to see but I went there once at the behest of my niece.
The Apple Blossom festival is held the first weekend in May; the whole town shuts down, the streets close off, and there are bands and parades. The year I was there, Dan Aykroyd was the Grabd Marshall, and I got to meet LaVar Arrington right around when he was drafted.
Perhaps their biggest claim to fame is being the hometown of country music legend Patsy Cline. I’m told that many of the scenes from the bio movie “Sweet Dreams” were filmed there.

At the Lycoming County Mall (PA), our Toys R Us closed, and is currently an Ollie's.
Our Toys R Us here in Mobile was turned into a storage rental place while Babies R Us was turned into an Aldi.
Toys-R-Us of Wichita Falls, Tx. Also got repurposed as an Ollie's.
Our ToysRUs was converted into an Ollie’s on April 1, 2020 I believe was it’s opening day. I really love the store, but with 3 children, we sure do wish it was TRU again!

Good video Wally we had a toys r us here in my home town my mom worked the night shift and she would bring me to work and I would just play . Of course you could do that back n the day when life was good and coke was cheap

I always used rainex wipers on my first car when i had it too, Id get 2 years out of them with regular window and wiper cleaning
The Toys R Us here in Texas where I am turned into a Ollie’s a few years back. I keep thinking about going to check it out too see what they have but I always forget until I drive by it going somewhere else. I guess I need to go before it shutters its windows for good.

Next time you're in DFW, you should check out the Ollies on 35 in Lewisville, which is also an old Toys R Us. The first time I went to that store after becoming an Ollies, I had no idea what it was--I just wanted to go into a former TRU!

There is an Ollie's in Glen Burnie, MD that used to be a Toys r Us. It's inside what used to be Glen Burnie Mall.

Miss this type of place, the last store like this was national wholesale liquidators, they had displays on tables, like this store. Overloaded with stuff. Ocean state and Xmas tree shops are close but not the same

My toys r us was converted to a cube smart storage facility. Such a waste and upsetting imo could’ve easily been repurposed to something more useful.

It's not about the price for the wiper blades it's about the longevity of the item. In my experience my Raines blades last twice as long or longer which means I am saving money where you are having to buy them more regularly.
Both of the brands I have mentioned in the video including the one I bought at Ollie's have both lasted exactly the same amount of time. About a year.
