As a general rule there are two groups of people who tend to notice all the intricate details of their surroundings: artists who draw scenery, and experienced soldiers. Therefore it should come as no surprise that experienced soldiers carry things that others do not.
I had the most wonderful brainfart right now. I read the title, watched the first 10 seconds and asked myself. "Where is the Australian accent?" Also good loadout. I watched a lot of EDC videos to help building my own but that gave me a few new pointers where I can improve instead of: "Seen it, NEXT!"
That Gerber saw! I've got that same folding saw, and it's been with me on about 1,200 miles of day hikes and backpack trips. That's a great little saw.
I have that same old Gerber saw. It's excellent. I bought a new one a few years ago and it broke with a couple uses. The old one probably over 20 years old and still going.
Forgot TP. A handful of napkins from McDs or Starbucks will work if you can't bring a roll of Charmin. I used to live on the street for several years. Always carried something to "wipe" with. Also, toiletry items like nail clippers, baby wipes, a bag of disposable razors. Scissors to cut your hair/beard. Medium-sized terry cloth towel or even a bath towel. Several plastic trash bags (size: 33 gallon minimum) if you need rain protection or if you have to sit on a wet surface. A few pairs of clean socks and skivvies to wear while you wash the dirty ones.
I have a Woodzig folding saw that I got fifteen years ago. Looks just like that Gerber. Used it for many of those years and it's still extremely functional. Ear plugs is something very few folks think of.... excellent idea. Semper Fi
I was in the US Navy . I consider EDC what I have in my pockets , just like I did in my time in service . We couldn't carry any kind of rucksack or bag and snake through watertight scuttles and such . Such a bag would weigh us down and drown us , or get caught up in the ship's machinery . There was a little bit of space in our gas mask bags for a couple of small items , but not much . We had inflatable Personal Flotation Devices at our battle stations , there were whistles and lanyards in the PFD pouches . Our gas masks and PFDs were at our battle stations. Any other gear we needed was on station at our battle stations , such as helmets , flak jackets , binoculars, firefighting gear , comms headsets , etc . We sailors usually carried folding knives like a Buck and/or a Swiss Army knife , Leatherman, etc . Many carried a small flashlight and a lighter like a BIC or a Zippo . We kept our wallets stored in our lockers while at sea . Our uniforms and boots were hung on hooks by our racks with our EDC gear in the pockets , we were required to go from asleep in our racks to manned and ready at our battle stations in three minutes . In our racks were EEBDs , Emergency Escape Breathing Devices . These are fire resistant hoods that provide a three minute supply of oxygen , long enough to escape the berthing compartment (In theory) . The Black Gang (not anything racist, it means Engineering Department Personnel ) had SEEDs , Survival Escape Engineer Devices , a sort of SCUBA gear for escaping engine rooms during a fire . In my opinion EDC is what you have on you person or what you can lay your hands on within three minutes . Any sailor or Marine who's ever been on a "float" knows what I'm talking about . Thanks for the video , brother . Semper Fi !
That is a nice day pack which you have together, but you sure have more than enough knives with you. I would not keep a gun with me all the time, but do have about everything else in my main backpack. We never was taught very much in the Air Force about survival, but I learned so much from the Marines I worked with a Camp Pendleton, and 29 Palms while working there on TDY duty.
One of the best kits I’ve seen in a while! Pretty similar to what I carry minus the handgun, I’m Canadian,so the handguns aren’t very easily acquired or carried openly
Great channel lads. I like the concept of a simple EDC bag, also the fact that it can be packed according to the situation or mission profile you're likely to encounter. I do that with my edc kit.
Some comments indicate this is too much gear for edc. I,however am impressed with how compact your kit is.Its a get home bag that carries like an edc.Youre better prepared for lifes surprises than most. When youve experienced how fragile things really are and how quickly they can break down, you can never be over prepared.Thats how scouts roll isnt it?Peace through strength.
For an EDC kit, this is overkill. Like I say, if you don't you use it, you don't need it. EDC kit - keys for the house and car, cell phone, wallet, knife, lighter, mini IFAK, small pencil and notebook. That's a realistic EDC. An EDC where all items are used on a daily basis.
Living in Florida, my family likes to have those large sunglasses that can be worn alone or over regular prescription glasses otherwise we'd have impaired vision which would be a dangerous hindrance. They are not impact resistant like shooting glasses (for firearms or airguns) or as good as a pair of goggles, but they can offer some protection from flying dust and debris as well as bright light. Protection of our eyes, ears, and mouth is important, so I would include ear plugs, glasses, goggles, air filter mask (3M disposable type) and a mouth guard along with a bandanna.
I see two sides or schools as it were of E.D.C, the basic and mundane stuff with a few "cool items" like a watch, notepad, keys, cell phone, flashlight, tactical pen, knife, lighter, multi-tool and space blanket. Some expand that to a small kit that might have tissues, a toothbrush, first aid items or even an extra pair of socks and underwear. And it might also include a handgun, fixed blade knife, water filter and flashlight. These are things we might need, but we can't stuff it all into our pockets. And others have an E.D.C. bag or pack with more supplies that provides a greater ability to deal with emergencies and help us to leave work, get home or stay healthy and alive until help arrives. Some say it isn't an EDC kit but a get home bag or bug out bag, but for that person it is something they carry all the time and thus called an EDC kit. I am okay with that because it's not just EDC items, but an "Every Day Carry KIT" to be carried and kept close at hand. The labels might be wrong, the terms might be misinterpreted, but nitpicking every item, every ounce, just seems a waste of time. If I could, I'd divide EDC into two groups; Pocket EDC and use the EDC for kits that fit in pouches or bags. But as Chance mentioned just looking at wallets, keys and cell phones isn't very interesting nor does it have much to do with survival or preparedness, but comes off as a fashion trend.
Im talking to a recruiter now on getting into the Marines just have to get this bump out the road and im good and also they do make folding saws I don't know if it's just NC that still do it but yeah it's at the Walmart I live near💯
I like knives too but he has too many and also having some kind of emergency food is a better idea than 50 knives. I keep 1 fixed knife and my Leatherman Mut in my bag and a folder in my pocket and recently started carrying a neck knife (although still not sure if i like it). And for food I keep 1 tin of Kippard snacks and a tin of smoked oysters, some jerky, a couple protein bars and a pack or 2 of nuts plus alot of the other stuff he dumped out. thats just my GHB. But if i am on the run all day and dont have the time or willingness to stop at some shitty Fast Food joint it is nice to have something to tide me over till i can get real food
I see in the comments that you also have a go bag. My question would be how many times in your daily life have you used Item X from your EDC bag. By evaluating what we carry and what we actually use. Some items might be better in the get home bag rather than in an EDC bag. That being said to each their own. Nice kit. Thank you for your service.
I have used the knives, quiet often, sewed things up with the fishing line, used the mirror, started fires with the ferro rods, rendered first aid at car wreck with guaze and my space blanket. The problem is most people dont wear enough kit in their pockets and a full on bugout bag gets left in the car. By combining usefull items with survival items and using a small bag, I can ensure that I can have the basic survival items covered anywhere I go.
Outstanding vid Leathernuts. Not sure where you live but watching these types of EDC vids : 1. Make me happy to live deep in the city 2. Motivate me to buy gear for when I might think of going outside of the Civvie FOB 3. Keep me thinking what in the hell you (and others) do/go that this type of gear is an everyday thought. Minus the trauma/aid kit cause we all know that no matter where you go now there's a "Gun Free Zone" in every grid that some whack job is waiting to stroll on into. RAH
Is this an EDC for someone that commutes to and from a job with US Forest Service? Holy cow. :D In any case, I just wanted to point out that if you are "out in the woods", a single epipen may not be enough. Up to 20% of people may need more than one dose of epipen, particularly if you are far from somewhere that can provide proper airway control, because oral benadryl and steroids may not be enough sometimes.
Never understood the point of these type of bags. I just carry a basic backpack. They can hold way more, but you can keep them minimal/lightweight, they have been “in style” for years and will probably remain so, they draw little to no attention, and (this is a big one for me) they don’t resemble a purse.
Nice, not a military person, just learned stuff from my late Dad, 50 years ago, he was a WW2 Canadian vet, epi pen very smart, pack for others, best Idea, though, NATURALLY, a list, I couldn't leave on a trip as a kid, without a LIST!

OK I am showing my age. But, where did you find the Artic canteen cup? Have not seen one for a few years, like back in the 80's, when I was in the Army.
I like the kit. Here in Commi California, though, keeping a fixed blade in your bad (as opp to your hip) is considered a concealed weapon. And a fixed blade on the hip, while legal, would definitely get you hassled by the police if worn in public. So I carry I very robust folding knife instead.
Well a knife that doesn’t open every time isn’t that big of a deal if you have 14 backup knives in your EDC. Haha just messing I’m also a knife junkie.

Great Vid, however I can’t bring myself to wear a purse or a murse... Is this an EDC vid or a survival pack vid? I really like what you guys are doing but I can only watch so many vids on the same topic. Seems to be the same kit or close to the same each time. If you guys can put out some content on different tools or improvised tools it would be awesome. I appreciate all you guys do, again great job & I look forward to the next one.
Mountain men carried possibles bags. Messenger or bread bags have been around forever. You coild possible conclude that our current lack of them stems from the gentlemens era when the highborn couldnt be troubled with such things!!

Five knives, three flashlights, three first-aid packs, two fire-starters (plus cigarette lighters), two water purification methods. BUT...no food, no water, no toilet paper, no cleansing products, no radio, no pencil/paper? This is a ludicrous overkill EDC post or an equally un-prepared SHTF post.
As a general rule there are two groups of people who tend to notice all the intricate details of their surroundings: artists who draw scenery, and experienced soldiers. Therefore it should come as no surprise that experienced soldiers carry things that others do not.

Cant wait to see his personal carry Every Day Carry carry!
Good kit, might want to add good pair of gloves and a dust mask of some kind. But overall you have most bases covered.
if I'm not mistaken the little pocket on the back is a hatchet or axe sleeve, so don't put something in there you don't want to drop
You had me at "hidden woodsman"
thanks for telling us the brand of water straw filter!

Yeah I like how the Chris Reeves knife “just happened” to be the knife that was in there for this planned video LOL!
It was between that and the Randall, or the 2 from American knife company, or the 8 Mission Knives, or the custom blade from Martin Knives....
Lol you are a true knife nut my friend! I’m just hating because I don’t have one lol. I would have done the same thing. Grace and peace to you brother
This my 3rd one, Jack got my second one and I gave my first one to a friend. Happy to finally get another one 😁

Let's be honest, how often will you need these.
A co-worker came across two of those gerber saws and have them to me

Haversack seems like itd be hard to run in. Like you'd have to use an arm to keep it from flopping around. How do you find it secures to your body?
