When I initially heard about a new Soap Opera call Santa Barbara coming on with a Mexican family, I immediately new that A Martinez would be cast. I had been a fan of A Martinez for many years and watched everything he was in. He is why I got involved with this Soap. The pairing of A with Marcy Walker was inspiring and they wove a beautiful and heartfelt story line.
Never knew of A until he appeared. I loved Robin Wright and Dane Witherspoon and was humored by Mason. I took to the Heroic Cruz immediately and him and Eden were my favorite couple until Mason and Mary. Then it was a tie.
He’s more than just an oil man. But they had to bring him in with a big intro , so they said he’s the best there is ! He, of course, ends up saving the day like he does in many more situations.
All due respect to ShorStories4U, Robert Scorpio is the longest-running leading heroic male character on daytime teevee. However, Cruz is right up there, perhaps tied with Robert. Just sayin' . . .
A Martinez used to despise soap operas, his agent at the time tricked him into thinking that SB was a primetime show like Dallas or Dynasty, he refused three times the part, the producers thought he was negotiating for more money, he finally listened to his wise wife, thank God he did !
The first Santana. He marries Santana but when an older less sexy woman plays the part. This is after him and Eden are involved. He got on the show before Marcy Walker.
The first Santana. Pretty sure they planned on a fiery love story between them. But when Cruz did hook up with Santana she was being played by a different actress and the obvious love couple was Eden and Cruz and Santana was a barrier.
A Martinez was a perfect match with Marcy Walker and to think A. turned down the role 3 times? before saying yes, so happy he did that's my reason for watching all the episode reruns.

I liked Robert Scorpio but lost track of him and his storyline after Luke & Laura on the run.
