Okay so Imagine starting your first year as a game dev student like ummm idk this year and then about a month in being greeted with the news about the runtime fee. Watching as developer after developer that you respect talks about switching platforms as soon as possible, to something that isn't Unity, the game engine you are now paying to take classes that focus primarily on it. What an awesome introduction into the game development industry that would be I think haha. Could u imagine that
That transition at ~12:24 is godlike! You're insanely cracked at editing man, not to mention that the overall video and thesis are both excellently comminicated. Excited to see more!
I won't name which, but I work in a AA studio, kinda indie, kind of not, about 80 employees. Let's just say our CEO made direct contact with Unity and said our next game will not be using Unity. They've offered us all kinds of bonuses, incentives, discounts, but we're done with them. Their support teams are useless, the services they offer professional studios like ours are fucking useless, they're a joke of a company and we're looking forward to our future with Unreal.
Couldn't agree more. I was planning in getting into Unity but after the recent events that had unfolded I've had to come to thoughts of whether that would be a good expenditure of my time or not.
To me the most interesting part of this video is that Unity’s search for a new business model began when Apple changed their privacy policy. That means that up until 2022, Unity was an *ad company*… that happened to sell ads by creating and distributing a game engine! Obviously, this business model was lucrative; they clearly weren’t bringing in enough revenue through pro subscriptions to offset the costs of producing and maintaining Unity. In most situations, I’d like to believe that ads make the end-user’s experience strictly worse, but in this situation, maybe an ad based model comes out on top? If Apple ends up opening their app ecosystem (like they might be forced to do in Europe), perhaps these kinds of ad-based business models can become viable again; ultimately that might be best for developers and consumers.
i actually feel like spore was a really really good game and needs more recognition, most people don't even know what it is. also, for a while me and my friend where planning on basically making spore but better, because we where big maxis fans.
I always feel that execs, most especially execs that didn't have anything to do with the conception of a product, more so for a game, don't care about it. They don't have the "Passion Project" approach like most game companies did in the past, and which is why I fully support the indie gaming industry.
EA games is the worst, once John Riccitello came CEO and made games that were money hungry and we’re almost a downgrade when it came to sequels compared to the past games. He left right before those games were published such as the Sims 4 (Which came out in 2014) and SimCity 2013 idk too much about EA sports but I’ve heard those games are very money hungry. There games actually used to be good…
You're mad if you think the CEO has any control over any of this. He's just the scapegoat for the Board of Directors that actually vote on these decisions.

oogh thats. absolute human suffering
😂😢
9:49 Slight correction: They didn't purchase ironSource. They _merged_ with ironSource, which is actually much worse.

The Graveyard bit gave me chills. Some of the best integration of visuals and music I have seen in a while.
agreed, it looks so good
it feels like a mini broccumentary
Your content still is amazing. It's a shame people won't see it so often, with the issues you pointed out in *that one video*

The Spyro music in the first few minutes gave me some nostalgia. All I can remember is lighting those cannons.

The “Aight” hit hard ngl 🔥✊
12:23 godot is kinda creepy
another banger vid!
reputations are important especially with companies. If you try to exploit and deceive for the sake of your wallet then you aren't worthy of ours
Or you could just pay people less to lead, Unity, surely that's not so hard
This was amazing, I don't know why it took 2 weeks to watch it...
You have to make a 100 aights commemoration
Dang, I remember playing Spore for hours when I was little🥲
TRY BEVY. You'll get full control and few bugs
