I just made this flower, and I am so pleased with it. Thank you so much for the video. I'm so thankful to you and those like you who share their expertise.
TotusMel your instructional video is excellent, you are a talented teacher with fine speech and communication skills and a pleasant sounding vocal pitch. In this video I feel you have given me the 'head start' needed to accomplish other patterns.Incidentally I plan to incorporate these embellishments into my card making, which is actually the reason I began looking for this type of 'needlework' after inheriting a small of stack of precious handmade gift cards...so thank you, thank you, thank you.
OMG! Thank you soooo much, I even try a paid class and NOTHING, but with your video I just got an AWESOME pendant flower!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! :)
I've tried tatting a couple of times before, the instructions that I used were not for beginners eventhough the book stated that it was for beginners. Your instructions are vrey clear and easy. I just finished the pendant that you demonstrated. It took me a few minutes and got it right on the first try! Thank you. Looking forward to more of your instuctional videos.
Thanks to your wonderful tutorial I finally understand how to make rings and chains. The first site I used didn't explain chains, yet had patterns with chains! Thank you so much for this!
I have used deoll needles with success too, my husband was clever enough to make the eye fit the length of the needle. What he did was very gently hammer the eye a few taps, turn over, a few taps and keep checking, but you have to be gentle!! I have made a couple of projects with that kind of needle. Also, Handy Hands.com has all the needle tatting stuff you need, they are great and the prices are not bad , also have lots of books and designs, threads, needles, etc. Tatting is FUN!! Thanks.
Dear TotusMel, You have done a wonderful instructions on Needle Tatting, using Audio-video. I could learn & complete the Flower Pendant very quickly, I'm beginner and just before I found your Instructions and video on Instrucrable, I had completed understanding and learning basic Ring and chains in Needle Tatting. Your instructions are very clear and appreciate from heart your love for teaching and reaching out this Art & Craft to the every corner. Thanks a ton with Love, Geeta Rane
I've been needle tatting for approx. 4 yrs. now and I finally tatted this one. Whoop ! lol Maybe I'll make some of these for Christmas gifts for friends at work. Maybe add beads later. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thanks so much for the video! I have always wanted to learn how to do this ever since my husband's great aunt gave me a tatted card. GREAT TUTORIAL! I have seen your other videos with no sound and they are also fantastic for understanding how to do the basics of this technique. Please keep doing them!
thank you this was very helpful! i saw the quick version and i was so confused, you are just so fast at it. i was relieved to see you made video with you talking us through it. thank you very much.
Your videos are great... and very helpful. I have been teaching tatting myself for over 30 years. I think it is the responsibility of a teacher to know her skill, as well as her terms. Please pronounce picot correctly so that your students may learn it properly. You can find it by searching how to pronounce picot. Keep up the great work!
I LOVE your videos;) I've been learning tatting and done several pieces but I tend to re-watch your videos to keep up my technique. You're very good at explaining without over-talking a bunch of nonsense that wont really help me:) Thanks for your instructables!
I also wanted to mention I found it easier to learn with the needle rather than the shuttle. You show the steps quit well and was easy to pick up on the stitches and how they should look on the needle. Find the shuttle is to cumbersome. Will be looking for more of your videos. now it will be practice, practice and more practice.
I tried tatting with a tatting shuttle and failed miserably. But, seeing you do this with a needle has given me new Hope and I'm going to try again! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Your tutorials are amazing! I finally figured out how to needle tat after about 3 years of trying then giving up. Just this Christmas I got a set of needles and learned the stitches for it, but not how to form the rings or chains. Thank you so much again!!!
I remember when this video was the only one on youtube that showed how to make a needle tatted motif. Thank you for doing these videos. I wish you'd do more of them. I've been to your site and seen your work. It's amazing!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I was struggling with the RW transition, creating sloppy flowers. After many attempts, I almost gave up. This video cleared up my confusion and was amazingly helpful! Thanks!
Hi!! I loved your video. It really helped me to improve my tatting. Thank you so much. 😁😁😁 God bless you people who share your knowledge with the world.🙏🙏🙏
Hi, I love this video and you are a great teacher. I've crocheted all my life but recently I wanted to learn how to tat. Now I know how to do this pendant from your video, I would love to learn more though. Can you make more videos please?
I saw an earlier video and it just went so fast (and without sound) so I couldn't understand it! I found this one and I love it! I just found a tatted butterfly I'm dying to make and now I think I can! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the Tutorial. I have always wanted to try this. It took me a few times. But finally made my first tatted flower. And your tutorial has been the easiest one to follow. :)
Thank you sooo much for this great tutorial. Tatting is always something I have longed to do, today I achieved that as I worked along with your video. Replaying as needed, after a few false starts I got the hang of it and now I'm hooked on needle tatting which I find much easier than shuttle. You were so clear and precise in your instructions I would love to see more tuts from you. Again Thank-you so much for the pleasure you have given me.
Wow, I just learned shuttle tatting, but I think I'll take up needle tatting too. It looks like it's much easier to catch and correct mistakes. Hey, you may have made me a convert!
Your visual demonstration was so clear and easy to follow I did not even need to put the sound on to learn how to make this flower (husband was watching TV). It took only 3 tries to perfect it. I've never needle tatted successfully before the shuttle has been far more difficult than the needle to learn. I like how you just dove in and didn't waste time playing with the tools as I have seen so many others do. Thank you so much!!! (I will say if you have never done needle arts before such as crochet or knitting, put the sound on!)
Hey Jen, I got mine at HobbyLobby yesterday. 4 in a set with a needle threader for 12 bucks. They are the same one you would get ordering from Handy Hands online.
This is the first time I have ever heard of tatting or seen it and it looks great I think I just might trty it as I like to knit & crochet as for pronouncing the words wrong I did not notice some people have little to do but I enjoyed ur video & hope to wat h some more thanks again
While clearing out things from my Mother -in- law's I came across some long needles and I only now know that she could tat. I thought the things that were tatted had been crocheted but could never figure out how they were done. Now, I know why and I will be coming back to leatn how to tat.
You can get tatting needles at almost any store in the US that sales yarn craft supplies. Hancock Fabrics, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby and Walmart even carries them or just go to your locally owned yarn store.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to try it. Just a note: Picot is pronounced: "i" has a long e sound and "ot" has a long o sound, not an 'ot' sound. Picot.
What a joy to watch your video!!! I am a shuttle tatter and have never considered trying needle tatting. That seemed to go fast! But I must confess, I can't give up using my Great Grandmother's very old and priceless tatting shuttles. Yet. I don't know where to get a tatting needle. Is this something that you can get at AC Moore? Thanks so much for sharing!
Enjoyed the video. Just an FYI: Picot is a french word (and is also used in crocheting) and it's phonetic pronunciation in English: " Pee-cole " (the t is silent).
I had been trying to learn this art with a shuttle, but was getting very frustrated and about to give it up... but after watching your video, I think I'll take another crack at it. Thanks for sharing... (btw, I don't care how you pronounce picot, LOL :-)
Hi, I saw your video and loved the results. I started another project, learning with each, and about 2/3rds through the beautiful project I realized I was running out of thread on the needle end. Plenty of thread on the spool but not my needle. What can I do? I'd hate to have to start over but if I have to I will. Thanks! Susan
I don't care how to pronounce pocot tomato tomatoe we all know what your saying, Thank you for sharing. I have been asking who knows how to do this; to those I know and no one has a clue
This is a great video. I have been thinking about learning how to do this and your video is easy to follow and you explain things so well. Please keep the videos coming with more desings. Thank you for the ones you have already done as well :D P.S.- How would you do another layer to the pendant or can you not do that?
Wow you are awesome! Thanks for responding to me. I think I might have the idea. Needle tatting looks a little less complicated than what I've watched using the shuttle. Just so I know when I go to the store.... I purchase a tatting needle? Are they all the same or do you recommend a specific length. I'm definitely going to go check out your instructables. Thank you so much. Maureen
Hi, very helpful video, thank you for sharing and teaching us this great fiber art. There's a word used in tatting...that may be confusing to pronounce since it's a french word "picot". In french we rarely pronounce the last letter so...picot sounds like " pee ko " . :) Keep up the good work!
CATHERINETTE RING! and this is amazing! i can't find a tatting needle though. where do you get them? I understand the concept now i just have to try! i found you on etsy then stumbled upon your instructable and stalked you to here! thank you soooo much!
A minor mistake by an English speaker - your work is amazing - C'est parfait and tres belle.... (ps - I am French and did notice this mispronunciation, but didn't find it very important compared to your excellent teaching - thank you!)
I have tried a million times to follow this video. I think you're going a little fast from the ring to the chain. Every time I pull the chain through, it turns into a ring. From where do you pull the thread for the chain?
How long is your needle? I can't find any in the sewing stores in my area. I have tried tatting with a doll needle, but I don't think it is long enough. Great tutorial!
I think I've got the tension right now but I think I'm using the wrong needle. I'll have to go out and buy a new tatting needle so that I can be 100% sure that I'm using the proper thing. The one I'm using is just one that I found in an old kit full of different kinds of needles.
Hi, Totusmel, I was wondering if it is possible to make a Cluny Leaf with needle tatting? I saw the way they looked and well, it was just a thought! Ha!
I like the video but since it is stated in the about section this is for beginners...don't you think you are going a bit fast for the beginners in the class?
Hi there! I love your video but I'm having some trouble with counting the stitches...including the picot? Someone on another tutorial mentioned counting the picot, but with which set of stitches front or back. Sorry, have just started since yesterday, so am brand new. I'm able to make the stitches great and have made rings and chains, and connected, but a having a bit of confusion on the stitch count with the picots. Thanks for your help :)
Hello, at 2.29 you join the second ring to the first ring, but I can't really see how you do it. Um, you pick up the thread and then there are 6 ds followed, but is the thread you picked up the first part of a ds or not? Thank you, Babs
Please can you help me .....how come when I start my thread goes on my tail pull and not on the lower sting pull every time 🤷♀️ What am I doing wrong.
I had no idea there was such a thing as needle tatting. This is a really neat craft and your video is very well done. Thank you.
I just made this flower, and I am so pleased with it. Thank you so much for the video. I'm so thankful to you and those like you who share their expertise.

С этого видеоурока началась моя страсть к фриволите. Благодарна!
I tried tatting with a tatting shuttle and failed miserably. But, seeing you do this with a needle has given me new Hope and I'm going to try again! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
You make needle tatting look so easy. I will have to grab my needles and follow your videos. Thank you.
Yay I did it! It’s not perfect, but it’s not a knotted up mess of a birds nest! Thank you!
Your tutorials are amazing! I finally figured out how to needle tat after about 3 years of trying then giving up. Just this Christmas I got a set of needles and learned the stitches for it, but not how to form the rings or chains. Thank you so much again!!!

Outstanding! Thank you. Incidentally, picot is pronounced "pea ko". The t is silent .
I will be demoing Needle Tatting on the TV Show Beads, Baubles & Jewels. The show will air in May of 2014
I don't care how to pronounce pocot tomato tomatoe we all know what your saying,

väga informatiivne! Aitäh!
The proper pronunciation of picot is pee- coe, as the t is silent. Just like cafe au lait ( I used to pronounce that t. 😘
A minor mistake by an English speaker - your work is amazing - C'est parfait and tres belle.... (ps - I am French and did notice this mispronunciation, but didn't find it very important compared to your excellent teaching - thank you!)
Me encanto su manera d esplicar su tecnica mucha grasias d mexico veracruz.
thanks a lot I can follow this video and now i can made it lol
I have tried a million times to follow this video. I think you're going a little fast from the ring to the chain. Every time I pull the chain through, it turns into a ring. From where do you pull the thread for the chain?
Wonderful... thanks...
@TotusMel Clearly its not that simple because I keep getting rings. Are you switching threads from the needle to the ball and back?
remember, under settings (the wheel above) you can slow down the play speed to even .25. :-)
I'm sorry, could you post the link to your instructions please. I just found your TH-cam channel and don't know what you're talking about.
How long is your needle? I can't find any in the sewing stores in my area. I have tried tatting with a doll needle, but I don't think it is long enough. Great tutorial!

Hi, Totusmel,
I was wondering if it is possible to make a Cluny Leaf with needle tatting? I saw the way they looked and well, it was just a thought! Ha!
Me gusta mucho el trabajo que está haciendo sigue poniendo video
When ever I try this I don't think I'm threading the needle right. I never seem to have the looped tail you've shown.
I like the video but since it is stated in the about section this is for beginners...don't you think you are going a bit fast for the beginners in the class?
Hi there! I love your video but I'm having some trouble with counting the stitches...including the picot? It's a from the French word (pique) It's spelled "picot" and pronounced "Pee Ko" the T is silent because there is no vowel at the end/after the T...
Szép! Nagyon szeretném megtanulni, de nem találok magyar nyelvű videót. Remélem hamarosan lesz
really nice .. thx alot
fantastico trabajo me encanto
Thank you so much for sharing.
