Just spent the last week in pensacola. Hit the rock pile just outside buyou chica and tore up the lower unit. Luckily found one at the prop shop and salvaged our trip. Definitely an awesome place. Will definitely be back.

That’s so crazy you get big red snapper that close to shore. Here in the gulf we have to go out so far to get them that big. Just last week I went 70 miles out to get ones like that.

We were in the same spot last Tuesday on a charter. 4 of us caught 4 juvy red snapper a 15" sharp nose shark and a 2lb hardhead. The second he pulled out squid rings I knew we were screwed. Caught more on a party boat the next day and it was the worst party boat I've been on.

    • @turdferguson8227
      @turdferguson8227 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Lol. Yea, unfortunately there’s not much you can do about the hardheads if you’re fishing cut bait, shrimp when they’re in there. Seems it’s always when the wind is blowing really hard the water is full of them.
The bigger ones aren’t that bad to take off. It’s the ones under 8” that will stick you good. A hardhead stick is infinitely worse than 1 from a freshwater catfish. Hate the damn things.

Nothing like hearing that drag scream.
Hooked a twenty plus pound catfish crappie fishing with my friend this year.
Kinda done the same thing you did. When I saw it was a big cat, I just pulled him off.
Wasn't planning on keeping anything, except maybe a few crappie, and didn't want to deal with a big cat in a canoe.
Still made the whole trip though

Here on the South Atlantic side of Florida we are lucky to have two 3 day weekends of Red Snapper fishing per year.
I worked on a charter/ commercial fishing boat for years and when Red Snapper closed permanently here we took the FWC scientists out approximately 2 to 4 times a month catching Red Snapper using their gear..bait..etc.
Some trips were catch..tag..and release while others were catch and kill trips where they would tag each fish when caught and then they would take the fish back to collect data from each fish.Once completed they would donate the fish to a local charity.
We even took a group from Marco Rubio's office from Washington out for a day of catch and collect data releasing all the fish caught.
For years we collected as well as the FWC scientists REAL AND CORRECT DATA regarding Red Snapper in the South Atlantic waters.
Information was then presented to the Under Committee in Washington by one of our captains.
It was proven that the Red Snapper stock was rebuilt and 100% sustainable.
It was also proven that the NMFS had closed the Red Snapper due to fabricated data.
However to this day we here on the East coast of Florida are not allowed to harvest Red snapper from 3 miles and out further from the coast.
In my 45 years of fishing the Red Snapper is now more abundant than ever and the Red Snapper rebuilt their stocks back on their own without a closure needed.

I knew it was a ray when he said am i snagged then it ran. all rays stick to the bottom after being hooked then they run hard when they see sucking on the bottoming working. it's happened every time I hook a ray no matter the size. a 5lb ray feels like a 20lb fish pulling cuz u can't turn em.
