I do think those are important, but I also think those lines get way too long. There are too many people going up those cables and it results in gridlock. A lot of people just want to get down rather than be patient.

I'm sorry for his loss, but as someone who has climbed peaks, we all know the risks and try not to let mountains claim our lives. He cannot make the park responsible for their decisions.

    • @laurie2508
      @laurie2508 หลายเดือนก่อน

Except, there are considerations. Mountaineering involving preparation and education regarding conditions and how to manage unexpected weather would be a good requirement. There’s a mix of bucket-listers hiking on a whim (not saying she was one), people so green to hiking that you would not necessarily encounter bagging peaks. The condition of the polish is also important. Far too many lives have been lost on this hike. Geese, people taking selfies, etc.

After watching hundreds of videos of deaths that could have been avoided while doing outdoor activities in parks, caves lakes, the air, on mountains the one thing that could have save so many was plain common sense. The father spoke of them wanting to go down before the rain or maybe it would rain and that it would make it much more slippery. When watching many videos of this scary activity (to me ) I see some are using harness or clips some aren't. WHY TAKE A CHANCE? It happened to his daughter. She slipped. Someone posted they had done the climb way back when and no one was using any clips/harnesses . But he also said people froze and wouldn't move. Those people might have had not froze & there was a less chance to fall & maybe taking someone with them, with having a clip! I learned an old saying at home & at school. "It's better to have and not need than to need and not have!" May Grace rest in peace.

My brother-in-law died in a hiking accident several years ago. He went over a waterfall after slipping on some rocks.
When we went to pick up his car and belongings from the ranger station we talked to one of the rangers who found his body. He said their job was to protect nature from people not the other way around. The fact that this dad is blaming the park system for this accident is crazy. He knew the risks going in. I’ve ascended the Half Dome cables three times over the years, the first time when I was 12. It was usually quite crowded. Never once did I see a single person using a clip or harness of any kind, to my recollection. Maybe it’s a newer recommendation, as it’s been about 15 years since the last time I went. But it never even occurred to me that was an option to make it safer. I just thought falls were extremely rare. I doubt I will ever climb it again, but good to know.. I don’t blame them for thinking it was relatively safe to go without that kind of gear. RIP young lady.

I hiked half dome without any equipment and alongside 90 year olds and 7 year olds. My dad just hiked it this week with our whole family. Everyone I know hikes this regularly. The biggest thing about Yosemite that is much different than other hiking trails is that it’s a wet slippery hike most of the hike. You must take your time be patient and expect the unexpected. It is a very scary hike and I have witnessed people almost falling while on half dome, but it was people who were having full blown anxiety attacks. This is the saddest story and while we were at the park it is very scary to hear that someone fell to their death a week before. Very terrible story to hear of.

I agree with experienced rock climber friends who suggest a simple back up of either webbing or even a harness rental, paired with a runner between a couple of carabiners to clip as a hiker ascends would be a good idea. The rock polish is only one of the problems. There is a broad range of experience in each hiker. Even a very experienced hiker could be knocked into a fall by someone else. There’s a TH-cam video of an egomaniac speed hiking up outside the cable using the cable as he goes up - must have scared the crap out of some hikers. Over use is a problem, over confidence, as well. Had this lovely girl had a safety back up described earlier, this may have been a different outcome, especially with the unexpected rain and possible lightning. So sorry for this wonderful father. I hope people listen to him.

The father doesn't seem to be in turmoil, or grief over what happened to his, "beloved," daughter. Something is VEEEERY STRAAAANGE ABOUT THIS WHOOOOLE SITUATION.-BELIEVE ME when i say, "VEEEERY STRAAAANGE." There are MANY MORE QUESTIONS than answers right now.

When my mother passed away I went to work the day it happened and nobody even knew. People grieve in different ways, and if you knew even a bit about psychology you’d know this. Also, there were witnesses who saw it happen, and they prayed with him while they waited for emergency services. So basically you don’t have any idea what you’re talking about lol.

Did she 'slip"? That guy looks creepy, zero emotion, very comfortable, well-groomed. Hope law enforcement will investigate. People have cameras, I don't believe the tale she slipped and fell off.

Honestly enoufh people have passed away there by accidents that at this point the place is Negatively Charged.
Accidents are now being Influenced and people are being taken.
There needs to be a set up of Spiritual Shrines to honor those who have passed, and allow the Souls to properly be crossed over or simply to help remove the Negative Trauma they are in.
When you pass, you are stuck in a sort of Suspended Emotional State. The souls need help in removing the emotional truama they were in, in their final moments before passing.
If not it breeds jealousy for those who can manifest.
There is a Reason this stuff is referred too as the Paranormal, or Super Natural.
It exist in Parallel with us, It is Nature in Super Form.
Ya of course accidents happen, but as they happen in a consistent location over time, Thats how you end up with the Bad JuJu.
