    ABOUT THIS FILM
    ____________________
    Their story
Finn and Gylfie first hooked up together towards the end of 2022. Finn was just two years old and this was his first breeding season. At times his inexperience led to some amusing gaffs!
From clumsy courtship to devoted partner
But this male barn owl soon matured and proved he can provide for his family. He is such a sweet character and takes his job very seriously.
    First time dad
This first time dad's excitement when he met his chicks was adorable to watch. Watch him checks the egg after it is laid with his beak, - it's as though he wonders if he should brood it himself. But Gylfie steps in and pushes him aside… incubating is best left to the expert.
    Attentive dad
Finn goes on to become a really attentive parent. He rarely leaves Gylfie's side as she broods their eggs and works hard bringing in food around the clock and guarding the nest.
    Barn owl chicks
The pair had three chicks in total, but sadly one did not survive. Thankfully the two remaining chicks, named Nutmeg & Thyme by their fans, grow up to be strong and healthy.
    Nutmeg becomes carer
And by one month old, barn owls the eldest, Nutmeg, is already showing signs she has inherited Finn's incredible nature. After they are old enough to be left alone by the parent birds my cameras reveal something unusual - Nutmeg, older by three days, takes on the role of feeding her younger brother.
Helping to feed & groom Thyme
As the barn owl chicks grow and develop, the bond between the siblings grows stronger and my cameras capture endearing footage of Nutmeg grooming Thyme and trying to encourage him to join her as she discovers the entrance to the nest and sees the world outside.
    And Thyme turns protector
Then one day when a pigeon ventures into the nest, their roles are reversed and the younger owlet, Thyme, spreads his wings out wide and screeches to protect his sister Nutmeg.
    Barn owls first flights
This extraordinary bond continues as the eldest Nutmeg learns to fly and then hops about the entrance to the nest trying to encourage her brother to join her.
I hope you have enjoyed watching the story of this adorable barn owl family.

KingLibra: do you love your parents, children, significant other, assuming you have or have had any of these? Can you show me this love? No, of course you can’t. Love is not something you can physically hold in your hands or take a photo of and declare “here it is”. When we humans jump in front of a speeding bus to save a loved one from certain death, it is called love. But if a mother owl sacrifices herself to save her children it is called “instinct for preservation of future generations. I would argue that both of these attributes apply to both the afore mentioned human mother and owl mother. Human beings like to tell themselves that animals don’t have emotions like they do or intelligence like they do so that when said human beings eat animals they don’t feel bad. 🤔🤷‍♀️

Im attempting to make an argument against people who say GOD isnt real. So i use the issue of love as a rebuttle and counter argument cause you cannot prove it or see it. If im a cold hearted s.o.b. then love isnt real to me the same way someone doesnt believe in GOD. I havw no interest in engaging about owls or animals. I have a degree in natural resources forestry and wildlife/wildlife ecology so i already know everything there is to know about nature.

I cried. The story of the barn owls resembles my family's too much.
My mother is slightly older than my father and seems a bit more experienced. I'm also my brother's older sister by 2 years and a half. I always thought that my brother was attacked to coddled, but in later years I became his confidant. Then, unfortunately, he started taking drugs in a critical point in his life when he needed to become independent, but ended up becoming incapable of doing the simplest of things. It came to a point when I had to internalize that my little brother may die from one day to the next, with no warning. He's barely 22.
When Thyme disappears, just after taking his first flight into the outside, my heart sunk. But although I feel pity for him, I will cheer on for Nutmeg, who from early on showed strength and courage and is still doing her best.

Not only did she teach me so much about nature imparting a lifelong love, her farm welcomed wildlife including Barn Owls. Every visit I would quietly and carefully slip into the barn to see them roosting. Later came the owlets. I have never seen any since that time even though I have had a barn for 20 yrs😞. I have barn owls nesting in my barn and they have been there for a few years at least. For the last three years we have seen the babies in the barn before they fully fledge and leave. It is absolutely wonderful. All year round we can see these owls and sometimes they sit on the rafters in the barn before taking off for a flight. The last few nights when I have been out cleaning and refilling my hedgehog feeders, I have seen an owl fly around the front garden and swoop about 3ft above my head. They are used to us being around. They certainly are noisy birds.
