Great to see and hear Sandy Denny, what an absolutely beautiful and distinctive voice, she sang with the Strawbs and even Led Zep at one time, and that voice is instantly recognisable. Why do all the good singers die young? Karen Carpenter is another example....R I P
Fairport convention!!! One of the greatest music bands ever...their music is so powerfull that opens new horizons in music!! We all must thank Sandy, Richard and the rest of the band members for such a terrific moments they gave us....
"This kid is amazing!" If you want to read one of the best 60s memoirs check out Joe Boyd's "White Bicycles." He was right in the middle of Fairport, Pink Floyd, Incredible String Band, Nick Drake, Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield, and more.
Oh God! Is that Richard Thompson. JK Such a change from when I saw him in concert a while back. Always carries that smart ass grin, impeccable beret and trim grey beard. And they got him playing a Les Paul in this too! That's a change. He's up there with Dylan in my opinion.
Speaking strictly as an illustrator (and straight guy) I must say Richard Thompson has remarkably beautiful facial features and bone structure. His voice is unique too. It would be simply awesome if this guy collaborated with Ian Anderson on an album. I'm just speculating out loud. I'd love to see this entire documentary.
Why oh why is there no decent concert footage of Sandy with Fairport - surely in someone'e basement ? I think they did do a performance together on the BBC's TOTP in about 1969 but the beeb must have wiped the videotape (idiots....)
Yeah, Boyd has an ego. But if it wasn't for him Fairport may never have been discovered or got a recording contract. And the same goes for Pink Floyd. He was instrumental in giving both of those bands a timely break.

Love to see those pics and hear stories of Sandy Denny and her gregarious smile and style! she is much missed today..
Any insight into Fairport Convention's music, especially the Sandy Denny years, is very much appreciated. Thank you for posting this.
Wonderful to see this. I fondly remember those times and the sheer magic of the Fairport sound.

Thank you for this beautiful and insightful production.
She was wild and wonderful. Yes, we miss you Sandy.
"She was wild and wonderful," Sandy Denny's old friend Linda states. Yes, she was wonderful.

Amen to that! Fantastic book.
Absolutely must reading- hope JB has a sequel too; what an amazing life in music!

It's a what he played in old days, pre strat, as far as i have seen.
@MrBeethovenfan Yes! the photo at 1:27 is simply stunning. The Pre-Raphs would have loved him as a model.
I've noticed this in other documentaries too. The longest standing member.
OMG! Anne Briggs came out of hiding for this documentary. That's huge.
This was only electric folk band she cared for. Richard Thompson repaid the compliment with his masterpiece - beeswing.
Sandy Denny & Richard Thompson can do no wrong in my eyes.
A better quality version ( In Colour !) is on utube now. Search for... Bouton Rouge Sessions - Fairport Convention
❤️SANDY " wild & wonderful". 🐂💨💨
@Osmun79 Reno Nevada it's on youtube, but sadly in black and white.

How to download the whole documentary? Where to get a free torrent?
Richard Thompson was damned pretty!
Is this part of a bigger thing?
Part of 3 one hour BBC episodes on British folk music
Richard Thompson this 17 year old kid is amazing... Dave Swarbrick not so much... Sandy Denny awesome.
Anne Briggs a beautiful soul.

sometime late 60s early 70s Convention and Led Zep played same gig..and apparently Thompson was much better than Page
Richard sounds like early Grateful Dead here. Seventeen years old - OK - learnt that - what's next?
@luc137
Hope to find the same thing. I have a torrent for the first 3 eps but think its dead
No mention of What we did or Unhalfbricking - arguably as fine if not purer than Liege.
Liege and Lief still stands as my favorite Fairport Convention album, period!!
I think Liege and Leaf is alright but I like Unhalfbricking better and What We Did better than both of them.
Richard Thompson has come a long way from the gormless teenager who did 'Henry the Human Fly'.
slessorpr He was well in to his 20's, and far from gormless.
Sandy Denny and Janis Joplin....both Capricorn women.
No Sandy Denny documentary? Jeez I'll bet there's 35 on Rihanna. I feel cheated.
Too bad Simon Nichol didn't even rate a mention
12Racer99 Nor a correct spelling.
Sandy... sigh...
Too bad you can't write his name correctly as it is Nicol
Joe Boyd ruined Sandy Denny. Good thing Floyd dumped him. Nick drake also suffered Boyd's ego.

How did he ruin her?
Is joe Boyd a CIA operative ?????
