  • Hi, Robert here!
In this Repurpose and Reuse video I do a time-lapsed 31 day review of a Harbor Freight rock tumbler. I use 4 packs of grit and polish over these 31 days to turn common landscape gravel I found around my AC unit into jewelry-grade polished stones. Hopefully you will find this video helpful if you are in the market for a rock tumbler!
Please subscribe to my channel for weekly videos where I repurpose and reuse items I find lying around (like rocks) or buy second hand from yard sales, thrift stores, etc.
Also, please be sure to check out my website at RepurposeAndReuse.com for more tips and resources on how to turn trash into treasure for profit and pleasure :)
Thanks for watching guys, now go out there and Repurpose and Reuse!
    Robert

My girlfriend and I have been tumbling rocks for about 3 years now, and we learned a lot from TH-camrs Michigan Rocks, and Agate Dad. We use either plastic beads or ceramic media to help cushion the rocks, and to keep our barrel 2/3 to 3/4 full in stages two thru 4. The rocks just don't tumble right with the barrel less than 2/3 full. Most of the rocks you used were too soft, and that's why they shrunk down so much. To check if a rock is too soft, use a knife to see if it scratches the rock. If it does, the rock will grind away to fast. Once you get 2/3 to 3/4 barrel of hard stones, we use 4 tbl. spoons of grit in stage 1, 4 tbl. spoons of grit in stage 2, 6 tbl. spoons of grit in stage 3 ( pre - polish ), and then 6 tbl. spoons of polish in stage 4. All of the stages are 7 days, and make sure your rocks, and the barrel and lid are very clean before moving to the next stage. I think you washed your rocks outside, which is great. Do not put it down your drain. Best of luck with your new hobbie !!!!!

@@repurposeandreuse7963 +1 on Michigan Rocks. I'm not too familiar with Agate Dad and have only seen his collecting and slabbing videos, but they are good too.

Thank you for posting this video, it was very helpful since I am thinking of purchasing this tumbler. I remember I did the same thing with my kids when they were little. Was that brown stuff dirt that got ground up? The stones need to be rinsed of debris before putting them in the tumbler

Thank you for the comment Tim! I would recommend it; was fun to see the different steps through the smoothing process for sure! I have no idea what the brown stuff was! Was a shock honestly when I opened the tumber! Thanks again for watching, cheers!!

Howdy howdy from colorado. Thank you for posting this video. Been wanting to get into Rock tumbling but don't want a national geographic tumbler. I just ordered the 6lb version. Are you still using yours and if so have you had to replace the belt at all?.
    Thanks again.

Howdy! Thanks for watching. I think you will be very pleased with the 6lb tumbler; I’ve had no issues with this one. Belt is still going strong too! Thanks again and good luck to you! Cheers 🍻

You should did just a bit of research 1st you put way too much product in the Tumblr. And also make sure you do one day of washing with just a drop of dish soap and water it gets the excess grit that stuck to the rocks that you cannot see

Absolute piece of crap. The two barrels went south in the first use. Waste of 67 bucks

It is amazing how much you can learn on TH-cam - and it’s satisfying to learn new skills and fix things yourself instead of always calling a repair man or buying new
