What's that galvanized go-faster thingy on Sonny's guitar by the p/u selector?

I don't know, it's really weird!! I initially thought it was just a sticker but it seems like it actually has buttons and stuff.. Anyone has an answer?

Push button pre set tunings. Got to meet him years ago, in Syracuse. He was doing a workshop, and went through his "strange" guitar.

How cool! I saw him in the 90’s here in Grand Rapids. The bands van had broke down so he and the accordion player hitchhiked and played the show by themselves. To an audience of about 6, in a dive bar. Got to hang out and try to learn his “tricks” though they proved elusive to say the least.

Great music, but Sonny's sound is with Strat not with LP

Seventysounds Sonny’s sound comes from his fingers. It doesn’t matter what guitar he plays!

Garrett Carrico, I'm talking about guitar tone and this involves guitar, pickups, amplifiers, effect pedals .. and Sonny sounds much nicer and richer with Stratocaster and single coils ... with Les Paul it sounds totally
different to mine ears. The way of playing, his unique technique, his very personal style ... yes, it's his fingers.

@@Seventysongs Right you are. The magnitude of his sound/playing is greater and more compelling.
