I really am loving these sacred bones editions that there doing for the John Carpenter collection and hopefully they will continue with the rest of his movies. Hey Paul. I know I said in this video that the transfer of this release is the same as the studio canal edition. But I have to recommend picking this release up for the Dolby Atmos alone. I have never heard this film sound the way it sounds on this release and like I said in the video It was like watching the movie for the first time again. It sounds that good. Fantastic release Keith, i only have the Studiocanal Blu-ray to this and i was thinking about upgrading to 4K , now even though i only have a soundbar i would still pick this over the UK release for the artwork alone, Thanks mate.

Yeah I had so many issues with the glossy finish that we got with the three Halloween editions. Thank god they went back to the Matte finish. Amazing you got two copies of it. How did they make that mistake I wonder. I can tell you now Ben is going to be thrilled. Fair play to you David

But the minute I unboxed that trap edition I thought it was one of the worst things I've ever seen. The only way I will have that in my collection is if I can get it for around €70. Anything else and it's way too much

Seems to me the only reason for purchasing this set would be the collectibles because scream Factory's Blu-ray release is definitely the best the film has ever looked can't imagine they did anything to make it look better they just put a bunch of stuff for the collectible aspect and repackage the 4K discs with a 4K symbol apart from that there probably are really no differences to the film itself

@@millerman9991 I don't have a fancy sound system but I do have a nice television and the picture alone the upgrade that Scream Factory did was extremely eye-opening from any previous release if I had the sound system that might warrant be picking this up unless it was a really cheap used situation for me I might grab it
The scream factory Blu-ray I think look beautiful. But all I can tell you is what I see with my own eyes and what I see is a monster upgrade over that previous Blu-ray. The Dolby Atmos alone is a monster upgrades but there is a big upgrade in picture quality as well.But Whats most important is your happy with your Blu-ray.

From what I understand there's a big difference between the two. The Scream Factory has gotten mostly positive reviews overall despite some imperfections and inconsistencies. The Studio Canal Blu-Ray (not 4k) has has been criticized as not looking much better than a DVD. It would be interesting to compare the old Scream Factory Blu to the one included in the recent 4k release. In the case of Mad Max the SF Blu was better overall than the Blu the was included with the 4k release and am interested if same isn't true in this case. Again I'm talking old Blu vs new, not Blu vs 4k. Feel free to share your opinion on this. Thank you

Hey James. Trust me it's the exact same transfer as StudioCanal. StudioCanals edition has Dolby Vision aswell. The only difference is Dolby Atmos. The strange thing is if you actually look at the box of Scream Factories edition there was no mention of Atmos on it. That's why I was so surprised when I seen it last night. Definitely worth the upgrade just for the Atmos alone
Dolby vision can be a disaster sometimes. The amount of 4K movies that I've bought with Dolby Vision and it's not mentioned on the covers is shocking. But yes the studio canal version definitely has Dolby Vision.

Hey Matt the Blu-ray itself is region a locked and as you know yourself the 4K is region free. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack on this is phenomenal and it is light years ahead of studio canals DTS 5.1. For that reason alone it worth picking up. I couldn't believe what I was listening to when I heard it last night. Trust me Matt try and pick up this version

Hey John. Now that I have escaped from the York I'm wondering will they consider bringing out the likes of the Fog and the thing with similar releases. I keep picturing how beautiful this collection will look if you can get all of John Carpenter's movies on the same kind of format. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is something truly remarkable on this release. It's one thing to be surprised that you were getting a Dolby Atmos soundtrack that you weren't even aware of. But when you knock it on and hear what you're getting its extraordinary. I honestly think that this is the definitive edition for escape from New York especially when you hear that that Atmos soundtrack. Thanks for checking it out John
Another fantastic release of a John Carpenter movie by Sacred Bones. Although, I think it's a bit unfortunate his head is cut off by this black bar at the top. It'd have been better if they hadn't used these black bars and use the full image from top to bottom, or even make the image a bit smaller to make it fit in between the black bars. However, it's still a great release and hopefully one day you'll be able to get the Sacred Bones release of They Live. Anyway, I'm not sure if it's of any interest to you, but did you already know the Taiwanese over-the-top splatter gore-fest called The Sadness is available on 4k Blu-ray in both Mediabook and Steelbook form in Germany? Even on just regular Blu-ray it's been released in only a handful of countries. Germany is the only country in the world where it's been released on 4k Blu-ray. The company that released it wanted to release this movie fully uncut, however the German rating board FSK refused to give them even the highest FSK18 rating. The company that released it didn't want to make any cuts to the movie, so in the end they just decided to release the movie without any FSK rating. That's why the release has a black FSK sticker at the front and is not allowed to be sold in any brick and mortar shops. However, these unrated movies are allowed to be sold online, so you can buy it on Amazon Germany for 33 Euro. I don't know if the transfer is any good, but for as far as I can see they've only used HDR10+, but no Dolby Vision. Well, I had already written this message several days ago. However, I got an unexpected visit from a female colleague who I like very much. So, I immediately stopped what I was doing and before I knew it several days had passed without even touching my laptop. Now I can finally post my message.
I say the reason why Kurt Russell's face wasn't on the cover is because of the fact that they probably would have to pay him. It's a shame because it would have looked a hell of a lot better. Having said that it's still a beautiful release and fingers crossed like you said I will be able to pick up they live. I'm very well aware of The Sadness. I don't know a whole lot about it but I heard a lot of people talking about it and apparently it's supposed to be great. I've noticed it on Amazon Germany and I still haven't pulled the trigger. Still, we really like each other and have been spending a lot of time together lately. Hence, why I've not been very active on TH-cam lately. I'm really having a great time together with her, but it's a shame she's not interested in a new relationship. Having said that, I told you I lived in Iceland before and I do have plans of going back there. She says she's really interested in coming with me and living there together with me. Well, it's a bit of a strange situation I'm in, making plans immigrating and living together and sleeping together with a friend who doesn't want to have a relationship. Well, we'll see where it all ends up. For now I just enjoy spending my time together with her.

Hey Dave why did you think I sound so surprised when I mentioned it in this video because it's not mentioned on the cover at all. I have no idea why they would not state that this movie has Dolby Atmos. But yes I can definitely confirm it does have Atmos and is probably one of the best sounding Atmos soundtracks I've ever heard for an older movie. You're going to love it if you can pick it up.
I wouldn't blame you for not upgrading because it is the same transfer as studio canal. But if you do have a good Atmos setup then I absolutely recommend picking this up because it's a Night and Day difference over the studio canal release when it comes to sound. Never heard anything like it
You keep saying Dolby Atmos but on the video at the 6:40 mark they clearly have it labeled incorrectly. It says Dolby “Vision”, DtsHDMA 5.1 under the AUDIO on the right side. So maybe they Meant to type in Dolby ATMOS but it still says DtsHDMA 5.1, not 7.1 🤷♂️. I can’t be the first to notice that mistake (?)
Hey Steven. I actually said in the video how surprised I was when I knocked it on and Dolby Atmos appeared up on my soundbar. There is nothing on the set that indicates Atmos and what a surprise it was because it sounds phenomenal. That's not the first time that has happened to me when it comes to 4K releases. I seen it happening the opposite way where it would say Atmos on the box and it wouldn't be on the disc. Just stupid printing mistakes

Are you sure it's the same as the studio canal version. Heard it has Dolby Vision as opposed to HDR10. As well as Atmos, so maybe worth an upgrade?

Even on just regular Blu-ray it's been released in only a handful of countries. Germany is the only country in the world where it's been released on 4k Blu-ray. The company that released it wanted to release this movie fully uncut, however the German rating board FSK refused to give them even the highest FSK18 rating. The company that released it didn't want to make any cuts to the movie, so in the end they just decided to release the movie without any FSK rating. That's why the release has a black FSK sticker at the front and is not allowed to be sold in any brick and mortar shops. However, these unrated movies are allowed to be sold online, so you can buy it on Amazon Germany for 33 Euro. I don't know if the transfer is any good, but for as far as I can see they've only used HDR10+, but no Dolby Vision.
Well, I had already written this message several days ago. However, I got an unexpected visit from a female colleague who I like very much. So, I immediately stopped what I was doing and before I knew it several days had passed without even touching my laptop. Now I can finally post my message.
I say the reason why Kurt Russell's face wasn't on the cover is because of the fact that they probably would have to pay him. It's a shame because it would have looked a hell of a lot better. Having said that it's still a beautiful release and fingers crossed like you said I will be able to pick up they live. I'm very well aware of The Sadness. I don't know a whole lot about it but I heard a lot of people talking about it and apparently it's supposed to be great. I've noticed it on Amazon Germany and I still haven't pulled the trigger. @@millerman9991 Well, unfortunately she's not open for any future relationships. She says relationships always end in a war with her. Still, we really like each other and have been spending a lot of time together lately. Hence, why I've not been very active on TH-cam lately. I'm really having a great time together with her, but it's a shame she's not interested in a new relationship.
Having said that, I told you I lived in Iceland before and I do have plans of going back there. She says she's really interested in coming with me and living there together with me. Well, it's a bit of a strange situation I'm in, making plans immigrating and living together and sleeping together with a friend who doesn't want to have a relationship. Well, we'll see where it all ends up. For now I just enjoy spending my time together with her.
That's a shame to hear Patrick. But look at the bright side. Just because she's not ready now to be in a relationship doesn't mean she won't in the future.

Hey Dave why did you think I sound so surprised when I mentioned it in this video because it's not mentioned on the cover at all. I have no idea why they would not state that this movie has Dolby Atmos. But yes I can definitely confirm it does have Atmos and is probably one of the best sounding Atmos soundtracks I've ever heard for an older movie. You're going to love it if you can pick it up.
I wouldn't blame you for not upgrading because it is the same transfer as studio canal. But if you do have a good Atmos setup then I absolutely recommend picking this up because it's a Night and Day difference over the studio canal release when it comes to sound. Never heard anything like it

You keep saying Dolby Atmos but on the video at the 6:40 mark they clearly have it labeled incorrectly. It says Dolby “Vision”, DtsHDMA 5.1 under the AUDIO on the right side. So maybe they Meant to type in Dolby ATMOS but it still says DtsHDMA 5.1, not 7.1 🤷♂️. I can’t be the first to notice that mistake (?)
Hey Steven. I actually said in the video how surprised I was when I knocked it on and Dolby Atmos appeared up on my soundbar. There is nothing on the set that indicates Atmos and what a surprise it was because it sounds phenomenal. That's not the first time that has happened to me when it comes to 4K releases. I seen it happening the opposite way where it would say Atmos on the box and it wouldn't be on the disc. Just stupid printing mistakes
