That metal leaf-shaped thing with the slots in it reminds me of a straining spoon that broke off of its cheap metal handle. It was probably held on the flat metal handle with a single rivet.
I started metal detecting as a 13 year old in 1977... armed with my Whites coin master 3 and living in western Pennsylvania i KILLED IT as a coin shooter! Now im back at it as a 59 year old... the quarter hoarder is THE BEST! You guys rock!
I stated using a Radio Shack orange handled detector around the same thing. I wish I didn't spend all the silver quarters and dimes that I found back then.
I started in 1978 with my dad's old White 4 DB which I think was in the coin masters series. What's even crazier is I'll be 59 this summer. For a simple detector I killed it with finding tons of old coins in southern NJ. I'm not sure if it's because back then there wasn't many people doing it or I'm in an old colonial state also or maybe both. Plus there was 40+ years of less soil built up and pretty much before all of these pulltabs. That old whites served me well. I used it until the bottom of the coil was so thin I had to duct tape a crack it got. Then when the speaker finally went a few more years later I bought my first new detector a fisher 1280X waterproof detector that worked great on land with hitting silver dimes deep. Then came a Whites TM 808 two box detector then a couple more whites including a pulse induction machine, another fisher CZ-21 and the last one was a Garrett's AT max and still debating whether I shouldve gotten the Equinox 800 so I'll see SMH. It becomes an obsession if you stick with it and get good sites to dig. BUT I accumulated a hell of a lot of coins, relics and jewelry collection over all those years not to mention the crazy or strange finds. But looking back at it they've all really paid themselves off. My GF can't understand why I keep these past detectors everytime I say I need a newer model lol. Out of everyone I ever had I liked the DFX the most after finally learning all of the settings it is amazingly accurate at telling you what the target is. I haven't seen a detector that is more accurate with the ID. This year I'm staying with the AT max to see if it is a deeper detector. It sure responds much quicker. Wow I didn't mean to have a flashback in detecting time but the old coin master brought back memories. Good luck I hope you keep on finding the old coins. I've also hunted many farm fields utside of the Philly city limits and there is so much history in PA also. I met a couple of brothers who were from Pittsburgh once as we were members of a DFX only hunt club. We met in Ohio at a DFX only hunt held at an 1920's boys out camp ground in Ohio and they showed me pics of some of their finds and they had some impressive colonial era coins found around the Pittsburgh area which is pretty far a way from Philly but it still had many old early colonial coppers and silver Spanish coins. They were like 200 miles away from Philly and it's all old dairy farm land and so many possible good digging land. Sometimes you can make a group or club and do hunts like these guys do and make videos. But it's not as easy as it looks to shoot film while you are hunting. I tried digging a few live digs and my first and only live dig was on a draped bust half cent it was so so footage but I have to learn not to say curse words when I hit a keeper but my hunting partner would need to be beeped every other 3 words. Typical of NJ.

I did find coins with a radio shack machine. In the '70's coins were very shallow. Once while walking down old RR tracks I got a mercury dime with my eyes between some coal along the tracks. Or in the pine lands you can get a signal and kick the pine needles away and find a merc or indian still on the surface. Wherever no grass grows like pine needles it takes decades just to get down in the dirt so even though radio shack detectors didn't have as many functions or deep depth it still hit those easy surface coins. The '70's had nearly 50 years more to get Depp and no pulltabs were around very much. Only a few of the original early beaver tail style. But the radio shack detector could find good coins. Remember in the mid '70's it was only 10 years earlier so silver coins were still around in circulation and all Penny's were copper. Well good luck and happy hunting to everyone. If there's two things one should offer as a suggestion that is sweep low and slow
@@jeanponce2017 Well I had the same detector in 77 (as Smokin Louie) when I was five. It only sounded off on a coin when it was directly touching the coil, but it found large metal at some distance. Some years later the experience brought me to buy a White's Spectrum XLT, and it served me well for over 25 years.
Years ago my parents went on vacation...I "borrowed" my dads metal detector and found my first coin. I can't remember what it was but all I remember was it was silver. Since them I've been hooked! My Dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer four years ago and beat it with a very good oncologist and a stem cell transplant. Anyway we try to get out every weekend , in western Pennsylvania. I love this hobby and so does my father . Every weekend I go to my parents house and watch your videos with my dad!, and go metal detecting!! You guys are awesome!! Thank you guys!! You are an inspiration for others!! Oh and Live Stream!!
My wife and I really enjoy your videos and check everyday to see if you have posted anything new. She has even mentioned getting into metal detecting because your videos make it look like so much fun. We really like all of your friends that you hunt with such a special group.

Great video guys. Doug great wheat penny find. The LIBE STREAM is going to be awesome. I went out metal detecting the same day I got my new Ace 200 for Christmas and I found a gold plated ring similar to the one you Found in this video.
Hey Jason-that gold heart locket WAS gold on the outside layer- that thin sheet of gold was crimped over the less expensive back which was made of brass or copper and then perhaps had simply a gold washed finish! The two separate pieces are clearly visible in the video! Good find- love your videos with Doug, Charlie and the guys!
