It isn't poorly synced A/V. The audio's from the 1998 Umea show that's on the re-release of Shape of Punk to Come. (The video is from 1997.) The audio from the actual performance is completely different - they hadn't yet recorded the ambient section in the middle, so Sandstrom (drummer) is just playing a kick beat. That's why the crowd looks apathetic during that section - there's nothing going on.
I was born in 1992, I wish I was a few years olders so I could hear theese guys live..... OH WAIT, I CAN BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING COMEBACK CONCERTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO
I love how this crowd has absolutely no idea about how legendary this song is. How can you look bored when any band plays a decent version of one of the best hardcore songs ever?
This is recorded 1997 at a show called P3 Popstad in Umeå, Sweden. I believe the song was initially to be featured on a compilation called sXe as fuck. Funny thing is that in this edit of the video, the original part where there now are techno samples is originally David doing some drumming.
My favorite punk band of all time! That I never saw them live actually really bothers me on a spiritual level. We can't recreate the past, but we can revel in its sheer power to influence the present...and if you are a fan of anything audible, and you have never heard this song, let alone this album...then you are in for a sonic born again experience. So watch...and be baptized in fury.
You're right, I think originally there were just some drum beats to fill in the space...the crowd shots during the synth part are probably not from that point in the show. I was going to sync up another live recording I have which I think may be from this concert...but some of the vocals didn't match....shows how tight and consistent they were at pulling off the same set though!
i love refused and hade the pleasure to see them live many times. i think everyone that likes refused should send email to them every day and beg them to come back!!!!!
Its crazy to think one of them (not sure which one) ended up being a classical music major in college. A lot of them went far in life, a few pretty brilliant people come from this little group here.
This video is incredibly well shot. Now this is how you shoot a fucking punk show. Dozens of different views, dynamic sweeping shots that give you a great overview of the whole band's image, the crowd is even is into it (though they are very lacking and most of them looked bored during close ups) even if the audio is from the 1998 performance, it doesn't matter. I can ignore syncing issues for the most part and this video is badass. If you've ever seen the actual 1997 performance, near the end kristofer steen's amp or something screws up and sounds bad. But with this overdub, it doesn't even matter, the audio is left intact. Sucks that gear messes up like that.
my favorite part is where some dude gets up to stage dive when the song momentarily picks up but then right as he's about to the music goes back to the quiet instrumental part and he's just like, "oh snap i guess i better just ump anyway!" haha i love it.
Sorry for my english... This public is to much calm ! This song is beautifull. Every time I heard it (since 8 years), it makes me playing my guitar. A good riff !
I gave this 6 stars not because this was probably one of the greatest bands to ever exist but also because of your description, Fuck Crazytown, and holy shit does this video destroy my face Kudos!
this is one of the only performances i've seen by them that wasn't a total mess. refused is one of my favorite bands, but if i had seen them live before hearing their studio material, i'd probably hate them.
The crowd were probably so tame because this was most likely the first time they had heard this, and I'm guessing it would've sounded like it was from another world to them and they had no idea how to react.
This was the first time New Noise was performed (and heard for the public). I guess that's why the crowd seems like that have no idea what's about to hit them.
I've liked this song for a few years, but when I first started listening to refused, which was originally with this song, all I heard was how vicious there live show was and how mind blowing it was. I was expecting something of ATDI standards, but sadly it's not. Still , quite a tight band.
I agree with you. it's so funny that the kids are sort of just standing there. shows a certain classic hardcore jock mentality. Henry rollins implied the same thing in the documovie American Hardcore. now it's the reverse- lotsa highschool jocks have taken to wearing eyeliner and growing their hair out. but now they're 'scene', they're 'cool'.
Refused had dozens of temporary and stand-in bass players who were never in the band (except Jon Brännström who joined them on guitar) and they were all in their teens I think.
36 people who disliked are either jokers or idiots. Refused are fucking alive everyday on my speakers and headphones. I play music to be in a band like that one day. Would be an uncontainable amount of fun to rock with these guys for an hour.
@keilan303 I don't think it's Refused's fault. WMG owns Epitaph which released TSOPTC. Probably the band being so high profile now made them go after their videos on youtube, it's not like they'd be asking the band or anything.
@keilan303 Nah... that's just what they do for live stuff. It's the live sound, that's real footage from the show. They just pieced parts of the video together, not necessarily in sync with the the exact moment. They take all the better moves, all the better visual moments, and they put them together tover the soundtrack from the show.
@toalman. They did, yeah. It wasn't all that bad, if you like Refused, then watch it for sure. After this album came out they all got a bit 'yeah we're so good, we'll go on tour and never practice', with predictable results, but yeah. It was alright actually. There's a copy on youtube if you're interested.
Since this concert was a "celebration" that Umeå won the swedish radio price for "Pop music town" of the year (Popstad) it isn't that strange that the crowd didn't get it.
Possibly the best placed "Woo" of any punk/metal track :p
Blur - song 2 is pretty close although not punk or metal but it hits
@@christopher2327 Don't forget 4LYN - Whoo
It seems like it wouldn’t work but it’s so epic and badass lmaooo
#ICONIC
@@christopher2327 I heard they were still considered punk. They were like the precursor to emo before emo was a thing
The Stooges "Your pretty face is going to hell" had a run for its money
A band that were so ahead of their time. Freaking visionaries!
When I first heard this my heart was punched through my chest into the wall by the raw new noise :P
can ice scream?
🙌🙌🙌 i've been always hearing that😂😂😂
Best performance of new noise.
Refused is up there with Ric Flair in their "woo"s
love this comment
timestamp? Which one of ALL do you mean? :D
I can't believe how good this sounds for being uploaded in 2006.
2006 isn't stone age!
GOOD GOD!!!! What a KILLER live sound! I’ve gotten re-obsessed with this band.
Lead singer has a fuckin awesome scream voice
when those guitars kick in... holy hell, my god its a beautiful sound...
This is probably the best version of sound and video we will get to witness of New Noise. This video kicks ass, such an explosive band.
It isn't poorly synced A/V. The audio's from the 1998 Umea show that's on the re-release of Shape of Punk to Come. (The video is from 1997.) the end in every version trails off from the new beat to psycho fit to thank you pete.
I love how this crowd has absolutely no idea about how legendary this song is. How can you look bored when any band plays a decent version of one of the best hardcore songs ever?
THE single most underrated album of the 90's.
This is recorded 1997 at a show called P3 Popstad in Umeå, Sweden. I believe the song was initially to be featured on a compilation called sXe as fuck. Funny thing is that in this edit of the video, the original part where there now are techno samples is originally David doing some drumming.

Its crazy to think one of them (not sure which one) ended up being a classical music major in college. A lot of them went far in life, a few pretty brilliant people come from this little group here.
If I had to guess, without looking up the answer, it's David Sandstrom.
@@theaspiration I'd probably agree.
WHOOO!!!! REFUSED !!!! BEST.BAND.EVER!!! I'll GO CRAZY IF I EVER SEE THIS BAND REFORMED!!!
This video is incredibly well shot. Now this is how you shoot a fucking punk show. Never gets old.
That damn energy is palpable.
Can't believe this was FOREVER ago. They seemed decades ahead of everyone.
this song is such a energetic that it feels so good to listen when you wake up early in the morning. it is my alarm sound.
OMG they sound live as good as the sound on the album! oO Didn't expect that! NICE
Damn... They're good!
i figured this singer would suck live "it was just a hunch" but i saw this video and i was like HOLY SHIT! excellent performance!
i cant believe they're back!!!!
Anyone who's a fan of music should listen to like all this bands music..
Sorry for my english...
This public is to much calm ! This song is beautifull. Every time I heard it (since 8 years), it makes me playing my guitar. A good riff !
great performance! i wish i was there
Woah!!!! 4:00 was freaking Insane!!! I would Die to see this live!!!!
The world could use some Refused right about now.
Essential of a posh hardcore genre some might say, but this could be a new shape of punk to come.
I gave this 6 stars not because this was probably one of the greatest bands to ever exist but also because of your description, Fuck Crazytown, and holy shit does this video destroy my face Kudos!
This gives me goosebumps... truely awesome.
well nice
great song, great performance
peace
If you were a teenager, outcast, a punk, at that time, then this was really something special.
I am sooooo jealous of the crowd!
This is beautiful.
this is one of the only performances i've seen by them that wasn't a total mess. refused is one of my favorite bands, but if i had seen them live before hearing their studio material, i'd probably hate them.
i seen them in concert !
amazing dude
this is an absolutely incredible rendition of a fucking intense song

A band way ahead of their time......
this song is pure energy!!!! great!!!!.... great refused

if this song doesn't get you pumped, you're officially dead inside.
i fucking love how they always have gigantic explosions in their songs!!!!!!
Almost looks retro. Excellent.
i love this song.. i listen to it to get pumped up before games and shit.. rock on...
freaking blew away when he started!
Refused had dozens of temporary and stand-in bass players who were never in the band (except Jon Brännström who joined them on guitar) and they were all in their teens I think.
IMAGINE if these guys got back together and played at coachella next year....my life would be complete
one of the most important bands to modern music
See you all at Sonishpere ;)
So badass that not even 240p can hold it back.
This is probably one of the 10 best songs EVER made!

Woow, very nice and good song!
This is from a concert with a lot of different bands. Maybe like 20% in audience are real fans. The rest are waiting for other bands to perform.
so much energy
ty for upload, yes i saw that Crazy Town bullshit and that pissed me off...
36 people who disliked are either jokers or idiots. Refused are fucking alive everyday on my speakers and headphones. I play music to be in a band like that one day. Would be an uncontainable amount of fun to rock with these guys for an hour.
