Exp.5: “To find the Break-Down Voltage of Transformer Oil” by Dr. T. G. Arora, Electrical Engineering Department, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur (India).
Transformer oil acts as a cooling medium as well as it provides insulation between winding & the body of the transformer. As it is acting as an insulating medium; it must have good dielectric strength. With time impurities are added and it undergoes aging process, hence its dielectric strength reduces. Two basic impurities in the transformer oil are moisture & solid impurities (sludge). Formation of sludge on the coil, windings & ducts reduces cooling efficiency considerably. Dielectric strength of the oil reduces by 20% due to 0.01% moisture in it. It is necessary to test the transformer oil time-to-time to know its dielectric strength/breakdown voltage.

Tomorrow I have exam of Power system lab
Thank you sir for making this video
It really helped me to understand the experiment .
Nicely explained
Nice sir
Sir nagpur mai konse clg se ho
Why oval shaped electrodes are used sir?
They are hemispherical electrodes. With this shape electric field is uniform.
