We were very fortunate this year where we live. It was fun and people for a moment almost forgot about COVID. I hope we can keep it alive for generations to come!
If this was filmed in 1987, I was 10. I'm 44 now and I remember going Trick or Treating at the mall back in the day. We lived in apartments and this was the safest and best way to trick or treat.
I really miss the 80’s and the Malls as well! There are very few real malls left. We used to go to this mall all the time but it is now gone and has been transformed into an outdoor shopping area with lofts. Luckily my mom filmed everything, and we now can preserve the memories and history. I’m so glad the video looks good. I have spent years developing a system to digitalize these old videos and upscale them to HD. Thanks for watching!
That is our goal! Preserve these videos before they are gone and give people a chance to know or remember what life was like back then. Thanks for watching!
Wow! My mom, who's 51, told me that she used to go trick or treating in the mall during the late 70s - early 80s. She loved it. It's sad it doesn't really exist anymore.
This is so amazing! The closest thing to having a time machine and seeing what it was like back then. I would have been around the same age as the kid in the stroller towards the end considering this looks to be from around 84-85ish. I love the kid's Filmation Ghostbusters costume and they're all carrying around Real Ghostbusters bags.
It is like going back in time! It’s amazing how much we forget over the years. This video has been a great reminder of how good things were back then and what an awesome time era to grow up in!
Halloween was so much fun back in the day!!! Totally glad I was alive then, I feel blessed. I love and miss the 80s! All the Holidays had a glory to them that is not present today.
This was my local mall in the 90s. I was a toddler when this was filmed, but what blows me away is how radically different the mall looked between when this was shot and just a few years later when i used to go there often with my parents.
Oof. Now I know why nostalgia can be depressing. That was my mall. Worked at Hickory Farms and Swensens in high school. It's just before the late 80s update which was dripping with the style everyone associates with the decade. It's gone now. Long gone.
Love it!! I was 13 in 1987 ❤️. I grew up in the Hudson valley in NY state in a rural neighborhood and we would go door to door, but thank you for this video this is how I remember the malls and costumes back then! What a great time to Be alive, the 1980s!!! ❤️
It's great that a mall and the businesses would put this on for the kids and families. It looks like there was a real sense of community there even if it was a promotion for the stores.
Wow, this was amazing. Some of the best 80s mall footage i've ever seen. Probably the crispest and clearest too. Most 80s camcorder footage is super grainy and low res but your video looks great.
Thanks so much! We have spent many years trying to perfect the digitalization process and upscale from standard resolution to 1080p high res. It will never be true HD since it wasn’t originally filmed in HD but it definitely looks better! As long as the original film lighting, focus, stability, etc are good, we are able to watch these videos on a 65” tv after digitalizing and they still look great!
Speaking of preppy clothing stores, do you remember the store where when you went inside it immediately smelled of perfume or cologne, and it was dark inside the store? I can't remember the name at all but it was extremely popular. Especially with the teens and young adults.

Good way to load up fast, I guess, if all merchants participate. By the time my shift was over tho, I just wanted to get the heck out of Dodge & do my funnin' elsewhere. As kids, we headed out around 6 p.m. & hit every house, apt. & trailer park in the 'hood 'til our pumpkins/bags/pillowcases were loaded down, sometimes returning home to dump 'em out & start all over again. Stayed out 'til 9:30, houses went lights out, or Daddy came looking for us. I had candy year-round once: Halloween to Easter, when I got my basket, then Easter to Halloween! When my boy was 3, he had the flu so I played stand-in, explaining to my neighbors in Spanish that my baby was sick & I was Trick or Treating for him, so his little pumpkin would be full & waiting when he got better.
Wow! Thanks for sharing your story! Working in a mall in LA back in the 80’s would have been quite the experience! Was that 1987 mall still up till this 2021 there in USA?
That mall is not there anymore. It was replaced by outdoor shopping and apartment lofts. So sad
Those kids are all in their 40s and malls are extinct now. Also America has gone straight down the crapper since. Someone yell hard enough and tell them it's all downhill from there and to enjoy it while it lasts.
This must of been late 80s/90s right?
Yes, my parents recorded this film of us in 1987. Thanks for watching!
