    The fact that it’s senior housing and they only put one elevator for the whole property is insane.

    If they cant leave their apartment then the delivery service for their groceries should be paid for by the apt owner and why are disabled people who cant get to safety if there is a fire on the 2nd+ floors in the first place ?

    That was an out of touch question. Seniors can't afford much at all, much less luxuries like food/grocery deliveries.

    What happens if they have a fire on the second floor ? They can't use the elevator then. It seems wrong to have people that can't walk in a place that they can't get out of in case of a emergency. 🤬

    This is not hard. The City needs to put these residents up in a hotel until the elevator is fixed, then bill the building owner for the costs.

    • @MBFromage
      @MBFromage ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not many hotels here in SD are wheelchair accessible. I called quite a few last week and no hotels I called had any wheelchair accessible rooms. But that would work for those who are able to walk. This city is really behind when it comes to accessibility.

      @@MBFromage No kidding? Wow! That stuff is mandated by federal law on disabilities. Somebody should report that. The Feds do take it seriously, I know from experience. Thanks for checking and that info.

    This is outrages! Would this be the case if this were a city or state building? Or perhaps some corporate building? This is how our seniors are treated and prioritized? This is BS!

    That is not fair that Disabled have no access to the elevator, there should be other options for them such as ramps.

      @@d8bn The seniors can experience anxiety, sleep disturbances and nightmares of what if, fire, earthquake. Or??? if they have a health emergency, so sad to see this in 2023. We give out food, stimulus checks, fixing pot holds, construction work going on everywhere but, seniors don’t have access to a elevator????? Praying for them all, this is a serious issue.?

    Senior housing should not have more than two to three floors and a ramp option. Higher up can be non-disabled, others if space is needed. Town zoning problem.

    I get it, but man if you’re handicapped, moving into a building that doesn’t have safe evacuation options in an emergency would be a no go. Don’t know who decided one elevator for a whole complex was a good idea 🙄

    It's very possible the property management has dragged thier feet to sign a proposal for repairs to be completed. Which just lengthens the time it take to order parts that are specific to that machine. When you point 👉 your finger, there are three pointing back at yourself.

    How can they access health care services? Get their RX's? See family members? The elderly and disabled are prone to depression. Basic supplies such as soap, to, paper towels, fruit, canned tuna and chicken, bread need to be given out. Can some stores help out with a supply chain. Building management and elevator company can distribute and coordinate. It's the least they can do. Also architect needs to look at plans for additional elevator areas on outside of building. One elevator is not SAFE.

    The complex should have to supply delivery service for groceries and the such and they should add those open air elevators instead of relying on one that seems to be a problem.. it’s good that the complex got put on blast by the news!
