      Let me correct you.
Pakistanis are not " The Finest Artist ", but they are actually " one of the finest artists ", singing songs based on Hindustani classical, semi classical and Indian folk songs.
By the way this song was written by javed aktar Saab.

Carl John Franz Subs won't do any good in fact subs will kill the song. The words are the life of this song if you translate it there's no meaning left. It's better if you just enjoy the music or learn the language if you want to understand it.

Pack Man I agree.. When I said lyrics are the heart I did not mean that subs will help you out.. Sorry.. :D a lot gets lost in translation.. Most of all the exact wordings used which rhyme and alliterate and many times same words used which have different meanings in different context which all will get lost in translation..

So do what you do best man don’t pay attention to comment section. Although to certain extend they are right , what they are trying to say is this man is a proper legend of indian/Pakistani classic music culture. He comes from one of the biggest musical family in Pakistan and he is a proper master . His uncle was untouchable Nusrat Fateh Ali khan. RIP

The scale run in the end is eastern solfage.
Do (Sa), Re (Re, its the same in pronunciation) Mi (Ga) Fa (Ma) So (Paa) La (Dha) Ti (Ni) Do (Sa, octave)
    i. e. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa unlike in weatern music where singers don't sing out or vocal the solfages of the scale.
In eastern basically Indian & Pakistan songs are written on specific raagas (scales, there is neumerous scales pertaining to mood, time of the day and even seasons (am not sure which raaga (scale) this song is based on)
This specific piece of music is arranged by Pakistani musicians, the singers are Pakistani.
However, having said that we Indians and Pakistaniz had one music before Independence i. e. in Greater India, before Bangladesh & Pakistan branched out, we had the same music.
And we as Indians neesds to give credit to the arranger of this piece and the singers for presenting the song in such a beautiful way. Yes the song is penned by an Indian Lyricist, Javed Akhtar but there is no harm in giving the credit where it belongs and I believe this spreads love and respect and not hatred.
And I also believe if the lyrics mentions of same place, the music needs not belong to that place itself. I can write a music about Eifel Tower on eastern scale, that doesn't make the song to belong to the place I mention in the song.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan his uncle was loved in India
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (Nephew of Nusrat) is also loved in India.
Lets love each other guys, there's no harm in giving the credit.
It indeed is an awesome piece

It's not scatting what he did towards the end. It's extensive improvisation of Rāga(a mood based pre arrangement of a mode). A technique unique to Indian classical singing. Scatting, by definition, has jibberish/non sensical words. He was uttering the literal note while vocalizing it skillfully.

Finally a proper classical singer singing a semiclassical piece. So you get some idea of what Hindustani Classical Music is about. The end portion is not scatting, it's solfege. We call it Sargam Taan. He could go even twice or thrice that speed easily or exactly the opposite, that is extremely slow. The most interesting thing is that never through the Taan portion, he deviated once from the base raag which is Raageshree here. Check out the scale in TH-cam. You will understand what I mean. Even the mixed frequencies which are basis of a swara(erroronously translated as notes) is maintained through out. We would die to bring out that GA-MA coalition in the end. Thanks for the reaction. Hoping to see more classical or fusion reactions.

Well, you need to watch a kacheri of South Indian classical music or carnatic music... The sargam that u call in Hindustani music is called krithi which is more often used in carnatic music, rather than Hindustani music. Hindustani music consists only off mukhada and antara. But carnatic music consists of pallavi, anupallavi, charanam and some more subdivisions. Carnatic music is little bit harder than Hindustani music. The Kacheri of carnatic music lasts for almost 2-2.5 hours. While in hindustani music, it only lasts for 1hour. I'm not trying to say that carnatic music is better than hindustani music or any sort of competition thing. Both of these styles are precious and both belong to India. I'm just stating the facts. That's it.........

    • @asamvav

@@AMALsjalwn indeed it is true that the Carnatic Classical Music is just as complex and lofty as Hindustani Classical Music. However, it is incorrect to assume that only Sthai and Antara are two parts that are available in the composition. In fact the older the composition the more standard 4parts system will be seen, i.e. Sthai, Antara, Abhog and Sanchari. In Carnatic system on the other hand there is Dhruva, Pallavi, Anupallavi, 3-4 or more Charanam. (Mind you I am mainly talking about Krithis, in varnam etc it will be much different) This structure is reminiscent of older Dhrupad tradition in Hindustani which has similar structure not only in Dhrupad but also in Dhamar pieces. Essentially both musical systems follow the same basic principles. However over time a lot of variations of Gamakas were lost in the northern system. This I personally believe is due to incursion of Persian music which is more melody driven. This lead to extinction of many ragas in the northern system that are still quite popular in the southern system. As far as Sargam taans go it is also available in Kalpanaswaram, Raagam Thanam Pallavi pieces. I am personally fond of all Indian classical music systems. And it is futile to fight over which system is superior. They both are amazing and very different. A mixture of techniques especially in the deshi ragas will be seen in the Kalinga and Marathi classical music which are musically somewhere in between. I am personally a student of Banaras gharana of Hindustani Classical Music. And I adore any form of classical music Indian or otherwise. Thank you for your well thought response.

That last part he did is called Sargam and taan, in this case only Sargam, sargam is mostly singing different combinations of the notes in a raag. He was singing different combinations of notes of whichever raag the song is in..
    Better way to explain is:
I'll take an Simple raag, Bhopali, Bhopali has 5 notes (out of total 7) Sa Re Ga Pa Dha and ending with Sa an octave higher (it's like do re Mi fa so la ti do, and removing fa and ti)
Now we make different combinations of the same 5 notes (mostly in respect to the song)
An example of a Sargam in Bhopali is:
Sa Ga Re Ga - Ga Sa Re Sa Dha - Dha Ga Re Ga ( - is like an extension of the previous note for another count)
Now there's a lot lot lot more to all this and I'm lazy, hope you read and understand

I saw another comment stating that they are singing Indian classical music or same with that. Point 1. No its not okay to call another nationality some one else. Fateh Ali khans are one of the singers we are proud of as Pakistanis we want then to be known by other country on the name of pakistan. Any Indian will also do the same if someone calls arijit Pakistani. And Indian classical music. dear music has no language no culture no boundaries. And singing more in india you're in India listening to Indian music sang by Pakistani singer thinking they sing more in India that's you're perspective. But u don't listen to Pakistani songs try listening and then comment and our singers come in India and sing because they are invited we don't seek or request from India. We get offers same as other maybe because Indian music directors see potential in some Pakistani singers. I am not patriotic I am just clearing some mind thought. Take it or leave it .

I don't want to be offensive but subcontinent is India there is no concept of classical music or raga in Muslim culture it is Hindu but later muslims
also started singing it and no doubts produced many great singers same with Indian classical dances all the dance forms except katthak was for performing inside temples only katthak was developed for performance in the court of kings and badshah

For Most people out there, Being Pakistani or Indian doesnt create a boundary. All of us are here to Enjoy the Music and the reaction, Not to start a political war/debate.
The Bollywood industry and Pakistani singers are a collaboration on a wider scale, they both need each other. Without the industry our singers would be nowhere. Without our singers their wont be that much of a soul, classic and traditional singing. Its a give and take.
Ive got massive respect for the Bollywood Industry and for the Pakistani Singers.
If you are so much of a patroit, go out on the border to define the lines, not here on youtubes comment section.

Awesome video. seems like you’re a great teacher. One correction though, at the end when you said it sounds like “scat” as in the western jazz improvisation, what he’s doing is more technical than that. He’s literally saying the note he’s singing on the scale “sa, re, sa, ga, ma”...etc - it would be as if you were singing and pronouncing “do, fa, me...” or which ever note you’re hitting on the scale, not in any particular order. Hope that makes sense.
