Cafe Racer (BMW R1100 S By Lucky Custom)

There are a lot of people who already thought on using a BMW R1100 S for a Cafe Racer project.
This also includes the BMW R850 R, BMW 1100R,BMW 1100 RS, BMW R1100 GS, and the BMW 1100 RT.
The main problem of all these motorcycles, is the Telelever front suspension.
But the custom BMW R1100 S presented on this video, is the perfect example about how to solve this problem.
And the most interesting, it demonstrates how the BMW R1100 S is close to the BMW R Nine T.
Today's project is the work of Lucas Layum and the crew of Lucky Custom, located in Argentina.

This project really blows me away. I thought: the limit is the sky and I still think there are no limits to the possibilities of transforming almost any motorcycle, not only into a cafe racer, but towards any direction. Such is the versatility of this type of vehicle. Passion is required and in cases like the one presented extraordinary technical skills and know how. Wonderful I say

Cores vibrantes em motos não é minha praia.. mas tenho que reconhecer que elas ficam muito bem casadas nas criações desse construtor: combinam perfeitamente com a personalidade esportiva de seus projetos, talvez apenas os pneus estampados tenham passado um pouquinho do ponto.. mas é apenas meu gosto pessoal, pois tenho certeza que a maioria vai adorar.
Em cinco anos seguindo esse canal, vemos que no mundo das customizações existem uma ou duas dezenas de profissionais cujas criações possuem personalidades próprias e portfólio consistente, e que vale a pena estar sempre acompanhando-os, pois de tempos em tempos pipoca algo novo.. e sabemos que é coisa muito boa.
Que essa obra de arte vai estar em seu top 10 anual, isso sabemos.. só a classificação exata dentro desse top ten é que é incógnita: eu arriscaria dizer que veremos ela pelo menos no pódium rsrs..

Meu caro Amigo, concordo com tudo o que disse. Por isso mesmo é que nem falei da questão das cores e algumas opções um pouco exageradas, embora seja esse o estilo habitual deste construtor. No fundo, o que me fez escolher esta moto para este video, foi a parte técnica na transformação do quadro. Nesta perspectiva, este é um tipo de projecto do qual já andava à procura há muito tempo. Tb acho que irá estar no Top 10, o que até já é habitual com este Construtor. Só é pena um pormenor. Pelo que vi na internet, tudo indica que a Lucky Custom já fechou portas. Olá Amigo. Obrigado amigo pelo simpático comentário. Aqui vai uma resposta que já escrevi a alguém que me perguntou sobre a situação das Inspecções a motas. A questão da legalidade será sempre algo difícil de compatibilizar com as cafe racers.Tudo depende também to tipo de projecto Café Racer que se pretende.
Sinceramente, acredito que se uma mota cafe racer tiver todos os faróis, espelhos, piscas, guarda lamas, e um escape que não seja livre, não vejo quaisquer razões para haver problemas quer com a policia quer nas Futuras inspecções periódicas.
E esta ultima será também a grande questão. Acho que é perfeitamente possível passar 1 cafe racer na inspecção, mas na maioria dos casos, será necessário alterar pelo menos os escapes, guarda-lamas(se não os tiver), e espelho(Depende do tamanho).
Por isso é que recomendo sempre guardar as peças originais da mota, e utilizá-las só para passar na inspecção, ou para uma futura reconstrução para o estado original.
Penso que se o futuro regulamento for semelhante ao das inspecções dos automóveis, a coisa não é assim tão difícil como a maioria das pessoas pensam. Temos que lembrar que uma inspecção periódica obrigatória, tem como objectivo verificar apenas os pontos base de segurança, tais como estado dos pneus,travões luzes, suspensão, gases de escape. Tudo o que for acima disso, já está enquadrado na homologação dos veículos, ou seja, só numa inspecção 'B' é que poderão eventualmente "pegar" pela falta da "originalidade" dos veículos. Mas mesmo assim, não acredito que os inspectores tenham acesso a esse tipo de informações detalhadas, muito menos quando se trata de
motas mais antigas. De qualquer forma, não vejo razões para preocupação, já que só temos de garantir que a mota tem o mínimo de condições para passar na inspecção periódica, ou seja, pneus,travões, luzes, suspensão, e gases/ruído de escape. Abraço.

I already tried a real American voice in one of my videos, but things didn't work as I expected. Curiously, the robotic voice sounds very good for all non-English natives.

Hey buddy! I have been following your channel for quite some time now being a bike enthusiast. I settled for a cruiser as my first motorcycle 5 years ago after being conflicted between CR and Cruiser. But watching your content helped me get over the confusion along with other comparison vids, so a big thanks to your channel for helping me get the right stead and keep on riding!
Also, I just had a suggestion, though I understand your reason of using the AI voice over the course of these years and this is the character that has sorta built up with this voice, but I can't help wondering as a Voice Over artist that you should have the content narrated by someone. Not saying it should be me or anything don't take me for the type, but just saying, there are many artists that you can hire for as much as 10-15$ who will be more than happy to voice your vids. :)

I like the original bike better. All that it needed was an updated paint job similar to what was given to the cafe racer and it would have been superior in nearly every way to the much less functional bike it was transformed into.
Let's be honest: it's no HP2. It's a very tall bike with an almost totally upright seating position, it wallows in fast curves, has an absolutely HUGE seat and an even larger tail section. It's a porky bike. Adding that telever front end which does not provide very much feedback at all does not make it an ideal sport bike. The R1100s does not have much of a sporty feeling, something that is a must for a cafe racer. This project changed all of that
@@Sooopa_Doopa I've never ridden one, so I can't comment on handling. Although I seriously doubt it's as bad you suggest. And I'll agree the tail section is a little boaty and could use a trimmer seat and hind section. But not the vanishingly small seats common today in euro styled cafe's. Only small enough to gain proportion without sacrificing a comfortable seating area for a 210 cm rider.
@@drott150 If you come from a metric cruiser then it might be ok as long as you posses a long inseam. But if you come from a sportbike background and you will quickly despise how it rides.
And then there are its quirks:
1. Revving while stopped moves the bike to the side. A lil freaky but that actually becomes almost endearing. Almost;
2. That damn non-fork front end is so damn high and stays there. One has to change and entire riding style. That telelever front end feels vague as fvck in corners. Ugh;
3. ABS pulses so hard it momentarily feels like you caught a blowout. It will seriously freak you out;
4. It's porky as sh!t. Over 500 lbs yet it only makes 90ish hp. That's not get up & go, it's get up and wait;
5. BMW's non-standard turn signals will drive you batty: left signal is on the left bar, right signal is on the right bar. WHY? Because of Zee friggin Germans that's why. At least their newer bikes aren't like this

@@Sooopa_Doopa Ok, maybe it's got some of the issues you mention. And again, I haven't ridden one, so I can't comment. But one thing I wouldn't do is rotely compare it to a GSXR 1100 and simplistically criticize it where it falls short of that standard. Just like one of my favorite bikes is a BMW GS R9T, even though I know any garden variety Japanese superbike would absolutely have it for lunch either on the twisties or drag strip. But that's not the point at all - hopefully you get that?
@@drott150 i never compared it to the big Gixxer or any other bike for that matter. I just gave an honest critique of the stock configuration and noted that this project seems to have resolved some of its failings:
significant weight reduction = better hp/weight ratio
change to an USD fork = more predictable handling
lower stance = sportier riding position
The only losses I see are the loss of passenger accommodations and hard luggage mounting points. The gains outweigh the losses
And again I'm speaking from experience. That's me in the Barca jersey.

@@RACER_TV No, unfortunately it requires extensive modification. So much that it's better to build a new frame. Just look at the difference in angle of the head tube and the difference in mounting points at 6:58 in the video. The mounting points do not line up unfortunately, and the standard mounting axles (they go all the way through the engine) have a different diameter as well. I know because I'm creating a cafe racer based on an 1150 gs engine en checked out the possibility of using the R Nine T frame. So I had someone make me a complete new frame. This frame supports both short and long forks (the head angle was calculated to do so), so I can actually create both a "low" cafe racer as well as a "high" scrambler type bike with the same frame and engine setup. A "2 in 1" bike so to speak.

Imagine if he pounded some rivets around the tank cap and polished them it would look Awsome. Every tiny detail always looks good and I applaud him for matching the rims with the rest of the bike.
Great build. This would be a quick and nimble machine. From personal experience I can tell you the R1100S engine is much smoother than the R9T engine. So much so I was actually disappointed with that aspect of my 2017 Pure. According to the dealership it is because of the different engine management set ups in response to Euro air pollution compliance requirements. I would love to have a R1100S engine dropped into my R9T frame.

Oh, my...........I have a 2009 BMW R1200R that I currently have for sale and I was going to use the money for a Cafe' project. If that front frame would adapt to my engine, my project is already in my garage!!!!
