    Another magical journey Dave taking in the River Frome and River Piddle. What really caught my eye was the house overlooking the river. to some extent it reminded me a little bit of John Constable's painting of The Hay Wain in my minds eye of course, although it was a stream really in the painting as opposed to a river. Scenery super as ever. Thanks Dave and of course Logan.

    We stayed in that hotel near the mill beside the bridge. Had lovely visit to StMarys and the Priory. The windows in that church were fantastic. I took many photos but sadly had a computer meltdown and lost the lot. Wareham is a lovely village. Did a little boat trip up the river also.. thank you

    I went to Wareham many moons ago and walked the walls. Also have walked the Purbeck Way (?) from Corfe to Wareham. That first church was a bit special!! I loved the Lawrence memorial and I would definitely have given it house space! Nice to see Logan having such fun towards the end. Thank you for another very interesting and well researched video. I really enjoy your films.

      Thanks Jean. Yes, that effigy of T E Lawrence was certainly impressive for sure.

    That brought back lovely memories of camping at Reg Cliff, must be back in the 80's. Loved walking the river from the site to get bread and milk. Thank you both. Take care.

    Thanks Dave and Logan - enjoyable video in a terrific area! My wife and I watch on TH-cam from Melbourne, Australia and always enjoy your channel. Nice to see you 'pop up' on Facebook too so I left a comment. Seriously thinking of returning to the UK to live and your channel is feeding that urge. Cheers, Keith

    Great video, lovely and peaceful. Wareham has become my favourite place to get away to for a few days. I live not too far away in Sussex and I just love going to Wareham and dawdling along the Frome with my flask and sandwiches. I'm going next week and you've given me ideas for a few things to look at which I hadn't noticed before. Thankyou

    This is a really excellent film 👍 I visited Wareham last month (November, 2022) and this is like being there, walking around. I only stopped for about 2 hours, from a train journey, Weymouth to Poole, day trip. I made sure I visited the famous church, St Martin on the Walls. Therefore, this is my favourite part of this film; it really captures the eeriness of entering the little Saxon church, with the Lawrence effigy / sculpture in the distance.
    But, the quay and the River Frome is really excellent, too.

    Thanks Dave and of course, Logan. I’ve been to Wareham once or twice in my life and although it’s still possible to drive through, it’s much quicker to use the bypass. My most memorable visit was on a lovely summers day aboard a boat from Poole quay. As you said, there is a market at the quay on Saturdays. Indeed, the day I visited, there was indeed, such a market running.. what I didn’t know was the bank which runs alongside the river. It looked delightful and of course, the south bridge is a joy to behold.
    We’re off to Ireland next weekend for a short holiday, so the next video may well have an Irish flavour to it.
    I attempted to film a walk along the Itchen Way into Winchester from the north, but it so uninteresting, that I haven’t done anything with it

    Interesting point about the River Piddle - It's also known as the River Puddle, hence the names of villages along it ... Tolpuddle, Affpuddle, Bryantspuddle, etc. However, there are also Piddlehinton and Piddletrenthide.

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did read a story (I don't know if it true or not) that some of the names were changed from "Piddle" to "Puddle" because Queen Victoria was visiting this area as a young girl, and the locals thought that the word "piddle" might have been slightly offensive, so they changed the names to "puddle."!
