Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy this weeks video, where I share my love of 'faded beauty'. It was challenging to keep this video relatively 'short' as there was so much more I wanted to share - I might have to do a part 2! xx
With so many TH-cam "influencers" showing modern, neutral design, this video really spoke to me. It was refreshing to see antique, much loved items featured. I am Southern, and this is the way we decorate. We love family heirlooms and pieces with a back story. Georgia, where I am from, has everything from the slick styles of Atlanta, to the Old South of Savannah, the mountain style of the Blue Ridge mountains to the Coastal styles of Saint Simons and Jekyll Islands. And farmhouse styles of the country. I appreciate them all, and love an eclectic mix of many. Having traveled through Europe in my youth, I love adding European elements into my design. I would LOVE a part two, and three, added to this. ❤❤❤
Hi Stacy, thank you for such a kind comment! The style from where you are from sounds so versatile and welcoming. I also love to hear you have appreciation for all the different elements involved. Thank you xx
I very much agree. I'm a maximalist for sure. I love going to the thrift stores and finding all the worn items minimalists have donated. So sad to think about the money, work and lifetime it takes to gather all of the items, just to have families donate it all.
Please do a part 2, it’s so lovely to see value and style that aged elements can bring to a space, specially in the modern world of design we live in today.
YES!!! Part 2!! This was beautiful. No one that I know has ever talked about faded beauty style yet I and others shop for faded beauty all the time. I think we are all are in agreement that there should be part two. I give this a double thumbs up. Thanks so much.
Faded beauty is so soothing to my soul. I've incorporated into both my kitchen and my bedroom. It must be my favorite, for what better rooms I do live! I've been in the process of making clay beads strung with jute twine, along with painting objects for a more aged appearance. I hope all is well and thank you for your lovely video, Suzie! Enjoy your weekend 💜🌹
Hi Gina, I hope you are well! I am happy to hear you found the video soothing and enjoyable to watch. I love being surrounded by items with faded beauty as well. The clay beads and jute sounds gorgeous!! xx
Greetings .....this video popped up as I saved it. You spoke of fixing and mending.....what Grandmere would call.....making do. I found a patchwork quilt at a tag sale recently, and it was over 100 years old. The seller told me it had been his wife's Aunt who made it. It was quintessential Shabby Chic. I must have worked on that for three hours between whip stitching and being under the sewing machine.....to make certain it was secured. It was worth every minute of toil as it is so warm and made with love I'm certain. I was a joy to view the video again.😊
That is a lovely story! How special that you were able to add your own love and mending touch to it as well. You are right, there is such a special quality to things that are mended and made with love. xx
This is like a lexicon of elements which makes decorating in this style so inspiring. Such great taste and it is the little details that make up a home which so rich, warm and welcoming. I love it!
Hi Nicole, thank you so much! Yes I love all the little details, which is probably why I love the little cracks, chipped paint and history.. adds so much character xx
I live in Charleston, South Carolina and I just discovered your channel on You Tube, your channel is amazing I love everything that you showcase keep up the fabulous work😍😍
This is my favourite video! I love faded beauty and look for it when I'm designing my home. My favorite is Scandinavian , but I try to adapt it in my coastal home.
My favourite style. Embracing the beauty of timeworn patina, and quirky imperfection. Plus lots of natural elements - and light. Elegant, yet child- and dog friendly.
I loved this program. Very like my own home The paintings and drawings are all my own my and my husbands own work and the old junk is ours collected in the veld or bush or seaside The furniture is inherited or second hand bought from junk stores
When I bleached my buffet/dresser I replaced the non-standard knobs with black metal handles. The knobs had to be chiseled out and holes filled with 19mm dowel. Some came out easily and some damaged the drawer fronts. The dowels are visible and look like neat knots in the wood and they’ve added so much faded beauty to the 25yr old piece. I finished it this summer and I still can’t stop looking at it.
That sounds like a stunning transformation! The contrast of the black metal handles against the bleached wood, combined with the visible dowels, must give the buffet/dresser a unique and charming character. It’s wonderful to hear how much you’re enjoying the finished piece! xx
I just love your videos. Nice relaxing music. Great photos of decor. You break down subconscious design ideas into words It helps me understand what I am drawn to and why. Beautiful video indeed cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Building new later in 22 - 23, looking forward particularly to displaying some "faded beauty" items which have special meaning to me. Framing and displaying a hand crocketed blue and white milk jug cover decorated with blue beads as weights, made by my paternal grandmother, which is well over 100 years old. My husbands maternal grandfathers athletics trophies from when he was a young man, my mother's German doll she left to me, which she had restored when she was alive. The doll was passed on and gifted to her, in pieces, when she was a girl, by a favourite neighbour. My maternal grandmother's, serving, condiment and jam dishes, all mismatched but I love each little piece. Beautiful old rugs and bedding, I have had packed away for many years, which will now be on display. As you age, some special items mean much more to you than anything you could ever buy new.
Hello :) How exciting that you be building a new home later this year and next! Incorporating some items with faded beauty sounds like the ideal way to compliment the newer build. Sounds like many of the items you are considering displaying have a rich history and meaning. I definitely agree with you that some special items carry such sentimental value and nostalgia! xx

Another beautiful video. Inspiring, although I don't have the resources or choices of someone living in Europe or the eastern side of North America. But I do have some nice antique pieces that I've picked up over the years and antique decorative items are easier to find than furniture. It was fun to see things I have, like dried hydrangea and old marmalade jars.

I love incorporating well-worn pieces into my home decor, but one caveat is to be careful with anything you intend to sit on. Rust, rough old wood, old wicker, etc. can play havoc with your clothes.
