Nancy comes from an upper middle class family with relative means and Jonathon was likely the only one making any real money for his family since his mom's business isn't doing so hot due to Starcourt sucking away the business. So.. it's not much of an overreaction to losing your job due to being dragged along into something that treatened your livelihood.
Why would they? Nancy is a woman and so are they, so they sympathize with her. Not that big of a deal tbh, I feel like that whole arch was to drive some animosity on either side.
you missed the part where she’s a joke if she doesn’t just behave like their slave… she doesn’t know what it’s like to b in need of money and he doesn’t know what it’s like to be a woman at that time, they were both correct.
I definitely don’t think Jonathan is being an ass. They both have a point. Nancy doesn’t know what it’s like being poor and Jonathan doesn’t know what it’s like to be a woman especially in that time period. He told her to leave it alone and she didn’t but she also had the right to want to be taken seriously as a reporter working for a bunch of misogynistic men.
People also need to understand both perspectives. Even though Nancy is 100% right, Jonathan doesn’t know that. From his point of view, he just got fired chasing false leads that equated to nothing.
Nancy wasn’t even a reporter though. I think Jonathan was 100% right here. They were just interns, and they already told Nancy to stop chasing the story. And it all ended up costing him his job which he unlike Nancy really did need. Yea those guys were jerks but Nancy was trying to be the star reporter in a month, even though she was just an intern. And Jonathan’s family really was poor, besides him the only other income was his mother. And the business wasn’t doing good at all.
@@sleepyking4558 Everyone has their own opinions. Imo and most of everyone else’s, no one is right or wrong in this situation. Yes, Nancy wasn’t a reporter, but she could’ve been one had she been taken seriously as a reporter, which is why she went out of her way to try and prove to a building full of men that she had what it took and she could write a story the same way a man could, maybe even better. They were interns; however, Jonathan was put in a position to do something he was actually good at, which was taking pictures. Nancy wasn’t given that she applied, and they automatically saw her as someone who could just go and grab lunch for them when they wanted. She wasn’t even allowed a desk with the other women. Jonathan could’ve easily denied helping Nancy, but he didn't. She even offered to take his car while he worked, and she did the reporting, but he chose to go with her. In the end, it cost them both for different reasons. Of course, Nancy isn’t poor, but she can’t just go and get any job she wants, like Jonathan could, solely because she’s a woman. The same way, Jonathan can’t just not have a job like Nancy because he has to provide for himself and his family. Nancy can’t just be without a job because her family is well off; she could easily be in the same position as Jonathan if she didn’t work.
I remember hearing that the sauna scene reactions from the kids were very real. Like Billy's actor apparently was so in character he genuinely scared the kids and that whole scene was so emotionally draining that El falling down crying was just Millie being so exhausted and was genuinely crying!!!
Fun facts about the Sauna Scene: The guy who plays billy wasn't supposed to smash the window, also Millie was really hurt when she was thrown back against the wall so the screams of pain were genuine
One of my favorite things about this season is how the Mind Flayer learned from his mistakes. When Will was being interrogated, Will broke through with his hand doing morse code. This time when Billy was being interrogated he let Billy surface while the Mind Flayer used his hand to grab the broken tile
Dunno if Jonathan is being an ass. He's his family's primary earner (his mom isn't exactly rolling in it since the mall opened..). I'd also be devastated if I had to tell my mom and younger brother we no longer have stable income...
Plus I always respect the "work sucks get used to it" wisdom :P But, he has forgotten a) her work sucks in ways his doesn't and b) they live in a TV show where you really can break open the case as a spunky teenager and also it's magic!
Jonathan is definitely completely in the right to be upset. Nancy never considered the consequences of her actions. Joyce depends on Jonathan's paychecks from his job to help around the house
One thing a lot of people don’t give this show credit for is expertly describing what anxiety feels like without having to show the subjectivity of it 6:44
I’m with Jonathan. Yes, Nancy was right about her hunch but it wasn’t going to get her anywhere. No matter how right she was, she is still a 17 year old high school intern. She wasn’t going to get a story in that newspaper, or a job there as a teenager, and those guys were never going to respect her no matter what. If she wanted to investigate the story further, she had every right to as a citizen. Not as a representative of the newspaper. She could’ve gotten a story and sent it to a rival newspaper or a the next big city over. She ignored all of Jonathan’s warnings, and he got fired when he actually needed the job. The end does not justify the means. The only reason anyone is on her side, is because it happened to be a Mindflayer thing.
220 degrees? I'm married to a Finnish American and we have a sauna in our house, and I can promise you that no sauna, especially a public sauna, gets to 220. 150 to 190 is a good hot sauna but most of them in gyms are probably around 130.
Yeah I can't imagine any public and most consumer ones having an option to go above boiling. But it makes sense the gauge might go that high to cover the possibilities I guess.
@@jerodast Not a sauna person myself but a quick look on google has people recommending 190 or 200 degrees as a good sauna setting. 220 isn't that much higher.
Jonathan is not the asshole. Nancy isnt technically wrong either but jonathan is definitely not wrong. Shed been pretty careless towards his intentions
Watched it many times, take for granted the smaller part actors, like Tom, their boss at the paper..great job as his wife is in danger and talking to his daughter..really solid work..what a great episode..! Terrific acting all around..
17:05, actually it's not a HIPAA violation, since HIPAA wouldn't be a thing for roughly another decade...HIPAA didn't become a thing til '96, this season is set in '84 (I think, might be '85).
Johnathan has a point Nancy cares about nothing but what she has going on and it's shown over and over by her bursting into the dark room while Johnathan is developing photos not caring what the light will do to his work, she doesn't care about his job and him needing an income because she doesn't need the income she comes from a well off family whereas Johnathan as a school student still needs to take extra shifts so there family can get by (remember he took an extra shift the night will disappeared)
Great reaction as always! Have you ever seen The Goonies? This show is very much like it in being a family-based adventure series, so very feel-good… Just with a bit more horror and suspense thrown in to make it a little more adult. (This is clearly R rated equivalent, while The Goonies was rated PG before PG-13 existed.) Hope you’re enjoying the feel-good times. 😜👍
If keeping the job was that important to him then he did not have to go along with her. No matter if she asked or not if it was so crucial to keep the job he could have said no

The way Jonathan see it is you have to hussil and deal with how ever they treat you to make sure you get paid because he can't afford to not make money he thinks Nancy is just being picky because she doesn't know what it is like to have to make money to live and support yourself he knows because he had to work to help his mom with bills and even though that is true she also has a point they are down grading her and she is just an intern she isnt even making money off this job yet and she wants to be respected as an assistant so she can actually start writing for the paper later but they don't respect a women in their work space and Jonathan is not supporting her in that but like he said the real world sucks just deal with it, he was always treated like crap being bullied at school people always thought he was weirdo

Seriously, this is a feel good show.
They’ll understand when they hit season four and every episode feels like a wholesome slice of life sitcom.
They'll start to feel good once its over with season'5.
It truly is feel good during Season 4 but I can't say why because of spoilers. But yeah, I smiled and cheered a lot during that season.
LoL, true but every story needs adversity to be overcome.
If you die, I die! Camaraderie off the charts!

220 is the maximum of the temperature gauge. If you watch closely Will turns the dial almost 360 degrees. Pretty sure it was set to 130 or so.
